Utah 11-year-old brings gun to school for protection after Newtown, Conn., massacre

KSTU Fox 13 is reporting tonight that an 11-year-old school student brought a gun to West Kearns Elementary School today “for self protection and for the protection of other students” after hearing about the massacre in Newtown, Conn., on Friday.

The child, a sixth-grader, reportedly told school officials that his parents encouraged him to bring the weapon.

Jesus. Tap dancing Christ. Could you parents please keep an eye on your Children for the Safety of mine?

    • mike_in_kosovo

I must have missed where the article said that he displayed or brandished the weapon…can you point it out for us, Hyperbole Man?

      • http://twitter.com/redsoxunixgeek Smitty 

It was on the News Reports from the Local TV Stations that covered the story.

He took it out on the playground and was brandishing it at other students and telling them that his parents told him to bring it to protect him and his friends.

The child should not have had a gun you idiot. Let your kids if you have any play with loaded guns in your own home and have fun with it. Your obviously brain dead so can’t do much harm

        • mike_in_kosovo

Actually, my kids were taught about guns, their destructive power and that they were NOT toys at a young age. Oddly enough, they have *never* behaved in an unsafe way around guns *and*, in fact, remind others when they see something unsafe.

I’m absolutely certain the same can’t be said for any of your children that made it past the abortion table, you microcephalic twit.

          • fmahoney

Well good for you billy bob, my son was trained also by law informant and me in NC. Use to have lots of guns but I don’t own one now. I respect guns and was a member of the NRA but they have changed their position on safety and common sense issues.

I happen to live in a place were guns are not allowed. Gun deaths per year maybe 3-7. Did I mention even the police are not allowed to have guns. Can you imagine my friend.

I never lock my doors at home and have never been robbed. . My reality is not yours, so do enjoy your reality of continued gun violence, do enjoy your reality of a war zone. I hope your a better shot then your fellow gun toting criminals who also have guns from these wonderful gun shows.

Maybe you can post your kids on 8hour watches on the roof. You do realize the snipers may decide to start picking you off from 200 yards away. Remember those two idiots in DC. No rhyme or reason not crazy just sick and pissed off for what reason I really don’t even care. Tell me how your well trained child would have stopped that sicko.

In your world of an eye for an eye the one eye man rules!!!

You enjoy your war zone my friend. When I was a child and had a disagreement or fight, we had time to make up and say sorry.

Did I mention even the police are not allowed to have guns. Can you imagine my friend.

The 27 slain at Sandy Hook can certainly attest to how peaceful a gun-free zone is.

The rest of your post is ignored for the over-simplistic drivel and wishful thinking that it is.

Sounds like that’s exactly what they did.

  • Bamagirl14

So?! An 11 year old boy from Utah probably took a hunter safety course like my son did when he was 11. And if he’s from rural Utah, which most of Utah is rural, he’s probably a decent shot.
America stop being a bunch of touchy feely panty waists!!
The government alone cannot protect us. We have to take initiative to protect ourselves and refuse to be tyrannized by liberals and scaredy cats. All of the brave ladies at Newtown are heroes, but just thing if the principal had a sidearm? Or the nurse or the counselor. You cannot bring your own body to a gunfight and win.

I know you like to think Utah is some backwards place, but Kerns Utah is in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley – I don’t care if he has taken firearms training or hunters ed, or has experience, A SCHOOL IS NOT A PLACE FOR A GUN. EVER.

I am glad to see you know nothing about the State of Utah.

This is a failure of parenting. (Especially since Reports from other News Outlets in Salt Lake are reporting he was brandishing it at students on the playground which is how the gun was found)

      • SineWaveII

“A SCHOOL IS NOT A PLACE FOR A GUN. EVER.” And that attitude is why so many school children are dead; because my friend, the shooter didn’t share your attitude and nobody else could stop him.

Another Student pointing a firearm (per the reports from Local Television Stations) at other students is not appropriate.

        • fmahoney

Your dead wrong, the guns should have been in a safe away from a troubled child. Careless behavior and glorification of violence is why those kids are dead and more violence will not fix the problem.

        • joames

          NO.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR GUNS AT SCHOOL.

YOU HAVE UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY LOST YOUR MIND.

      • reshas1

And you believe everything you read in the news???? Look how effed up they got the coverage for the Sandy Hook shooting.. I don’t believe anything I read/see/hear from the Lame Stream Media.

        • fmahoney

Keep watching Fox for your election updates. They always tell the truth fair and balanced

        • fmahoney

The parent should be placed in JAIL!

      • fmahoney

We have some real sick people in the world. These people really believe kids @ 11 should be in schools with guns. WOW is all I can say.

    • fmahoney

Your one sick person and the 22 persons who approve. When i was a kid I got into fights at times. After the fight the adults made us shake hands and make up. You make up and become best friends after the fight. I never had to worry if the other 11 year old would pull out a gun and blow my head off.

Most 11 year old children do not have the maturity to carry a gun. Be very careful the message you send to the youth of this country. Suppose the child drops the gun and it discharges and kills another child. Now suppose it’s your child who dies.

Stupid is as stupid does. You are sick and should not have a gun my friend…

    • fmahoney

In addition, the parent of the gun should be placed in jail!

    • joames

THE CHILD POINTED THE GUN AT ANOTHER CHILD’S HEAD AND THREATENED TO KILL HIM AT RECESS.

      YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT,

      YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

      • Bamagirl14

I did not know that he pointed it and used it in a threatening manner. Sorry to offend. I did not know all the details.

  • Sam

Terrible that a child feels so unsafe in schools that he feels he must rely on himself for protection. Poor parents were probably just talking about how concealed carry could have saved those kids; not ordering him to bring a gun!

  • GTFOBigGovt

The parents reportedly said a relative “left it in their house”. BAN PARENTS!
