Galling: White House press secretary Jay Carney uses Newtown victims to push tax increases

It ain’t easy being Jay. Tasked with follow-up after President Obama’s Newtown, Conn., school massacre speech (which he primarily wrote all by himself, the White House will have you know), the press secretary took hits from all sides for his press briefing today.

Ouch:

But the worst moment was when Carney exploited the Newtown school massacre to argue for Obama’s tax increases. Yes, he did.

The fish rots from the head down, of course:

  • stuckinIL4now

Tax increases, really? Those are more likely to have people reaching for guns.

Doubtful. It will just encourage more evasion and reduce revenues.

Obviously we need to raise taxes so the State can care for our children. They know better. /

  • digitalPimple

These people are the lowest I have ever personally witnessed in our White House. Just when you think they may hit bottom…

    • detroit19

…they manage to dig a little deeper, don’t they?

  • cantbelieve

Funny how Adam Lanza’s mom receives $350,000 a year in divorce settlement and owns her house – so her taxes would have been raised. Less money for mental health care for the shooter’s family under the new obama tax plan. so much for more money for disabled kids.

  • mdtljt

Jay Carney’s jackholery definitely falls under the “ass rifles” category…Jay certainly fits that
description to a tee…shoots outta his rump and expects everyone to
enjoy the stench!!! (if the ass rifles reference confounds, please see comments after the Twitchy article about Chris Cuomo’s appearance on The View…best catch of the YEAR!!!)

Good job America. This is what you voted for.

Maybe they could find some extra $$$ by defunding Planned Parenthood…I wander how many children they killed on Friday…

“We as a nation have not done enough to fulfill our number one obligation, which is to protect our children”
    -Jay Carney

WHAT A MONSTER!!!!!! HE’S GONNA TAKE OUR GUNS AWAY!!!!

    • Penmar

Idiot, that was not the objection, it was the use of children in this tragedy to further their agenda.

      • Streetiebird

Then what in his speech do you object to? You didn’t watch it did you? It sounds like you just listened to Limbaugh instead.

        • Penmar

Jay Carney wasn’t giving a speech, he was answering questions from the press, so are you suffering from dementia or something, confusing things a bit?

          • Streetiebird

Regardless, Limbaugh is the only one who seemed to have a problem.

          • Penmar

I don’t listen to Limbaugh, I did have a problem with the present WH using the deaths of children to further their agenda of trying dismantle the US Constitution. And from the posts on here and other places, Limbaugh was not the only one to take issue with what was said and how it was said. At issue was the boy’s mental health, his mother’s inability to view him as a threat to herself or others and an issue with seeing that he got the help he needed. She decided to bond with a child she knew to be mentally unstable using guns. To blame guns and further an agenda which systematically undermines the rights of Americans under the Constitution shows that this WH does not really care about saving people or stopping another instance of this kind of thing happening, they are all about taking over as much of our rights as they possibly can. It is not about guns, it’s about violence and mental health. In Australia, they banned guns, they’ve still had a mass shooting and another mass killing by someone torching a church. Timothy McVeigh didn’t use a gun, the 9/11 terroists didn’t use guns. In China they had mass killings with knives. Nor do you hear much about law abiding citizens carrying weapons who actually keep someone from killing or prevent further killings, I however know of 3 or 4 in the last few weeks and another from an off duty police officer.

          • Streetiebird

You don’t think guns are a problem, got it.

I love your conspiracy theories though! Tell me the one about dismantling the constitution again! 😀

          • Penmar

You happen to read the Small Arms Treaty the UN would like Obama to get passed? Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty. Get back to me on conspiracy theories when you find a real one.
            http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2011/06/07/u-n-agreement-should-have-all-gun-owners-up-in-arms/

          • Streetiebird

LOL I love it! So you’re saying that by trying to extend the U.S. gold standard of gun export and trade policy to other countries that Obama is trying to… destroy the Constitution?

It’s like the recent GOP blockade of letting the rest of the world use the Americans with Disabilities Act as the standard model for how they treat the disabled. The GOP fought it tooth and nail even though it did not affect Americans at all.

But yeah, it MUST be a conspiracy if the UN is involved right?

            They’re gonna take your guns!!!!!!!!!

          • Penmar

They will continue to try anyway. Because ding-dongs like you don’t mind living under the thumb of the gov’t telling them every second what they can and can not do. What they can and can not own, handing out a pittance so you can get a loaf of bread or whatever. And just as long as you tow the party line, you will be permitted to continue to voice your mind. I am not a Republican, I think the GOP is a sorry excuse for a party same as the dems.

          • Streetiebird

You’re more of a Republican than you know :)

          • Penmar

Well these days I have but two choices, libtards and those swinging toward libtardation, I will choose the swingers because there is the off chance they could swing back.

          • Streetiebird

Awesome :) It’s hard to tell what you mean by that, but well done!

          • Streetiebird

Thanks for the link to a biased Forbes contributor who shares your same fears.

It’s too bad that the treaty we’re actually discussing is related to INTERNATIONAL trade, and does not affect Americans right to own guns.

Until a constitutional amendment to ban guns is proposed, then nobody will try to take your guns away, mmkay?

          • Penmar

Exactly how does this in any way, shape or form just constitute an international trade option? Ban the trade, sale and private ownership of all semi-automatic weapons
(any that have magazines even though they still operate in the same one
trigger pull – one single “bang” manner as revolvers.
Or this? Confiscate and destroy all “unauthorized” civilian firearms (exempting those owned by our government of course).

          • Streetiebird

You assume that any of the wording you’re “quoting” is from the actual treaty, and you’re incorrect.

It would apply only on exports, and in no way infringes upon any sovereign states existing rights to regulate guns within said state. Meaning it would not affect Amercans rights in any way except to prevent guns from the US being exported to countries where they would be used, for example, by militias to terrorize their local populations.

But please carry on with your conspiracy theories, it’s quite amusing.

          • Streetiebird

Do you enjoy figuratively and ghoulishly using the deaths of children to make your hysterical points?

No, but a lot of people here do apparently.

    • TocksNedlog

Yeah, nothing wrong with the president’s press secretary telling us that we need the government nanny-state to expand BECAUSE we’ve all failed as parents; right?

      • Streetiebird

You must listen to Limbaugh, since he’s the one linking months old Carney statements with the statements from the other day. Admit that you didn’t listen to Carney’s actual statement.

You are free to watch the entire press conference and see that he did, indeed, politicize the deaths of children to argue for the need to raise taxes (the mother would have been one of those individuals subject to greater taxation under Obama’s plan). Admit it-you will defend the indefensible as long as a “D” follows the name of the speaker. Furthermore, while we’re on the subject of not giving the whole story, didn’t you just cringe when the left attempted to blame Palin for the Tuscon shooting?

      • Streetiebird

Who, on the left, attempted to blame Palin for the Tucson shooting? I don’t remember that being like Tiller getting killed where folks on the right had been basically asking someone to kill him.

Tax increases??? How about save some tax $$$ by banning abortion…maybe youth in this country would be more appreciative of human life if our lawmakers were…

    • lainer51

      or buying our OWN contraception!!!!

  • Scott

How about start charging admission to all of obamas speeches, and dinners and golf games etc since he is on tour we might as well make the idiots that want to see him actually pay for it. Then use the money instead of being a burden to us tax payers

  • louisiana_mom

It is sickening and depraved the way the Progressives will use any tragedy to advance their agenda… They don’t give a snip about anyone or anything except “fundamentally transforming” America into a 3rd world hellhole!

  • lainer51

so hard to believe this regime was voted back in… what a sad state of affairs to realize there are 62 million people in this country that are dumber than a pile of bricks.

  • TocksNedlog

    Poor Claire Shipman.
