Creator of The Daily Show misstates GOP position on birth control

Wasting no time to score political points in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., massacre, comedienne/producer Lizz Winstead asserts that Republicans support easy access to guns but want to restrict access to birth control.

We suppose this view is common in Hollywood and Manhattan and among young liberals throughout the country. Is there any truth to it?

Many Republicans oppose government-mandated insurance benefits. Such mandates increase the price of health insurance. An increase in the price of health insurance reduces the number of employers and individuals who can afford to purchase coverage. Most people regard an increase in the number of people who are uninsured as a bad thing.

We are not aware of a single Republican Governor or member of Congress who thinks access to birth control should be restricted by the government.

Indeed, at least one prominent Republican recent¬†proposed¬†increasing womens’ access to birth control pills:

Reasonable people can disagree about the proper role of government in the design of health insurance benefits, but distorting the GOP position on the issue is a cheap shot.

  • Josephine (D)

No Republican is going restrict birth control. It’s already extremely easy to get.

    • stuckinIL4now

Yeah, but to libturds it’s not considered “accessible” unless it’s FREE.

  • Pat Bateman

LOL, yeah, as a Twitter user, I’ve NEVER seen a RWNJ oppose birth
control. Since birth control prevents so much abortion, it would only be
logical for RWNJs to support it, but they all seem to want to ban SEX. I have NO idea how Liz could be SO misinformed [insert eye roll].

    • Catchance

      Sorry… what’s an RWNJ?

      • James Hansen

        right wing nut job

    • Rulz

That’s funny, they accuse the right of wanting to ban sex when the right is having kids and liberals generally aren’t.

      • Jeir Jailen Jaithwaite

. Show me a statistic that proves ur claim.

    • Randal Redder

Do you have any proof of these RWNJ’s calling for the government to ban birth control? Didn’t think so.

      • Jeir Jailen Jaithwaite

It won’t let me cut and paste on my phone for some reason but google Rick Santorum and birth control. There u go.

        • Randal Redder

So you can’t find any or state someone’s actual position, good to know.

        • Randal Redder

Also, if you want to know how to cut and paste from a mobile device you could try Googling it.

    • Angie (D)

Progs: Most aggressively ignorant group of people in the history of mankind. They just make up stuff, which the vehemently believe because they are too stupid to know better & too lazy to do the research. These are people who voted for the guy who uses drones to kill innocents women & children in the target’s radius because they think the “war” is over & Gitmo is closed. No, seriously ask them & they will tell you that Obama “ended the war” & that Gitmo is closed.

      • Bill

Just as many stupid Republicans who thought Romney deserved more credit for bin Laden’s death then Obama. Don’t think it’s all on one side.

    • TheOriginalDonald

All the VRWC wants is for people to keep their pants on, an idea many are starting to agree with.

    • TocksNedlog

I don’t know why so many people are voting ‘thumbs down’ on your post. It is a brilliant SATIRE on the liberal stereotype of what the average conservative believes.

  • JOHN

I guess not giving birth control away for free is restricting it ?

    • Blake Waymire

Haven’t you learned in the past four years of idiocy? Access = government gives it to you for free. You didn’t think it was about actual availability, did you?

      • Rulz

Your comment should be framed in every medical building.

    • irishgirl91

If it is not free then it is not accessible. We have also not allowed b.c into schools so that children can have it without their parents knowledge or permission. This is also limited access. You have not become fluent in progressive.

  • PistolsForPandas

Remember folks, these guys think of themselves as our intellectual betters. Looking things up? Ha! Everyone knows double- and triple-checking sources is for Teabaggers!

Quick, somebody tell Lizzie we’re stealing everyone’s tampons using Dick Cheney’s Hurricane Machine!

    • usmccp

LOL Nicely done – 2 points

  • orringtonmom (D)

no. please use as much birth control as it takes. double down. wear a condom while abstaining if you want. don’t care. btw…they’re in aisle three, help yourself. stupid people.

    • righthook38

  • Bob Cordon

Free sex. Free birth control. DOwatyouwannado, baby Liberals are losers.

  • George Washington Mclintock

Well. silly broad is right about the guns. We are all for easy access to guns so women to can easily access them to easily shoot rapists, robbers, and psychos.

  • Derek K. Wilson

Let’s make all forms of birth control completely free to all registered democrats and self-proclaimed liberals/progressives…

  • stuckinIL4now

The libturds no longer care if they just outright lie and the low-information knuckleheads aren’t going to bother to verify if it’s true, they just believe what the libturds and the slimestream media tell them to believe.

  • louisiana_mom

I don’t care how much birthcontrol a person has or how many guns they want to purchase… as long as I don’t have to pay for either.

    • whosjg

Finally. Someone who refines the issues down to basic underlying principals. Gratifying!

    • whosjg

Finally. Someone who refines the issues down to basic underlying principals. Gratifying!

  • Disciple

I say give the liberals all the birth control they want, that way maybe we can limit the number of stupid people.

  • Dusquene Whistler

Some people seem to think you can just go to amazon and have an AR15 mailed to your house.

  • usmccp

She views the sacrement of abortion as birth control, so hence her statement that GOP opposes birth control.

  • Pseudonym

So have conservatives officially disavowed their opposition to Griswold v. Connecticut? Eisenstadt v. Baird? Lawrence v. Texas? United States v. One Package of Japanese Pessaries?

  • Steve_J

How about that ugly inside and out.

  • TocksNedlog

“Hi, I’m Lizz Winstead! I make things up in order to paint the people with whom I disagree in the worst possible light.”

What a lovely photo of Winstead. Wonder if her parents have an 8×10 of it on their fireplace mantle.

  • John (it true me am)

See, the thing is that progressives think abortion is birth control. They fail to understand what the contra- in contraceptive actually means, and like to lump killing a fetus in with using a condom because the fail to grasp nuance.

  • alittleunwell

It amazes me that they equate guns with murder but not abortion with murder. Fools.

  • Dusquene Whistler

Have all the birth control you want, if you can pay for it yourself. Nobody buys me ammo.

    • Jeir Jailen Jaithwaite

Ya, um, ammo isn’t preventative medicine buddy. Kinda lame comparison….

      • Dusquene Whistler

Pay for your own preventative medicine you cheapskate. When will you children ever begin to understand, I owe you nothing, I’m not your parents, take some responsibility for your own life you baby. GROW THE FUCK UP!

        • Bill

Even though I agree people should pay for their own contraceptives I also realize they’re gonna have sex no matter what. And as somebody who is pro life I at least think this will cut down on abortions. Silver lining.

  • righthook38

They don’t want us to have guns because they care about the innocent litle kids, but they have no problem with aborting MILLIONS of innocent unborn babies. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

  • Trudy Hill

I have a friend that I admire, we don’t know each other well but we get invites back and forth.. she told me that the GOP wants to make BC illegal and among other things that she has seen with HER OWN EYES mammogram machines at Planned Parenthood. I was in utter shock, I have never ever met someone in my small social circle to express these beliefs. I always wondered just where they all were hiding. lol But here is where it comes from, my guess anyway.. her daughter earns her living in front of a camera, spokes person talk show stuff and she just married a actor from Hollywood. My mouth caught almost two flies during our conversation !
