Remember their names: Medical examiner releases list of women and children killed in Newtown massacre

Dr. H. Wayne Carver, Connecticut’s chief medical examiner, has released the names of the 20 children and six adult women killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Conn. The heartbreaking list includes 12 girls and eight boys, all between the ages of 6 and 7.

They should be remembered not as tragic statistics, but by name. Micah Grimes, a Tampa-based assignment editor, honored them by tweeting each name.

Editor’s note: In a statement, Lauren’s mother Terri spelled her daughter’s name “Lauren Rousseau” and that is how most media outlets are reporting the spelling.

Nancy Lanza, the shooter’s mother, was also killed in her Newtown home earlier on Friday.

“Sandy” is not the most popular name this year….. very sad association.

There are no words to describe a tragedy like this. There is nothing that will ever fill the emptiness left by the ending of these innocent lives. Family, friends, survivors will live with this horror the rest of their lives and, what should be a joyous holiday season approaching will, instead, recall the loss and terror of 12/14/2012. God watch over and comfort them, as best they can be comforted.

My thoughts, as always, go out to my brothers and sisters in law enforcement in CT., and I wish them well for their sacrifices. And my tears and prayers go out to the families of every victim at the school, where so many children from Newtown/Sandy Hook lost their lives. Cumha na Cloinne

Newtown is my home town. We are encouraging people to wear the colors for Sandy Hook Elementary School on Monday as a show of solidarity with those affected – green and white.
