When the iPhone 5 was released in September, it was like Christmas had come early to those lined up around the block to get their hands on Apple’s latest. There was an unexpected lump of coal, however, in the form of Apple’s Maps app, which had bumped the popular Google Maps off of the platform. Christmas has come early again, as Google released its mapping software for iOS 6 last night, and there was much rejoicing.
I'm overly happy to have Google Maps back on my iPhone. Early Christmas.—

Hallelujah! Christmas has come 12 days early! GOOGLE MAPS ARE BACK! (It’s a little different, but it really works!) itunes.apple.com/gb/app/google-…—

Google Maps, I love you. Best Christmas present ever.—

The best xmas present so far; Google Maps is free once again on the iPhone. Now I won't end up in Tibet while trying to get to Taco Bell—

Not everyone is thrilled with the news.
Where am I? It’s dark… Hey there Contacts app! Whoa, Compass app! I haven’t seen you since… Wait a second. This is the useless app folder!—

Just how bad was Apple’s in-house Maps app? Just this week, police in Australia warned citizens against using the app after several motorists were left stranded and had to be rescued.
In past 2 mths Victoria Police have rescued 6 people lost in Murray Sunset Nat'l Park while trying to get to Mildura with Apple Maps app—

To be fair, the police issued a similar warning just days later cautioning against relying on Google Maps as well, but it seems most people are fully confident in their old friend.
Someone mentioned "Get lost", an app where you can get lost in your own city. Isn't that called Apple maps?—

The joys of getting lost by Apple maps: my husband’s phone directed us to a church rather than the restaurant we wanted 5 miles away. Why?!?—

I'm so excited about the new Google Maps app, I think I'll use Apple Maps to get lost tonight so Google Maps can take me back home.—

Hallelujah, Google maps is in the app store. Now back to getting lost because I'm dumb, instead of because Apple is dumb.—

Well, if your phone battery dies, you might get lost. Or, you could leave the phone at home and get lost on purpose, just for fun.
