Michigan State Senate passes omnibus bill regulating abortion

The Michigan legislature passed an omnibus bill on Wednesday that contained several regulations on abortion practices, including regulating the “disposition of fetal remains” following an abortion (Sec. 2836(1)). HB 5711, which ThinkProgress calls “massive 45-page legislation”, passed the Michigan State Senate by a 27-10 vote. The bill will now go back to the House for a vote.

Twitchy covered an earlier story about the bill in June when abortion supporters surrounded the capital to publicize The Vagina Monologues. The reaction to the Senate’s Wednesday vote will likely be as outrageous as earlier demonstrations and, given the violence that took place regarding the right-to-work bill on Tuesday, anything is possible.

Get ready for the panic!

Good for Michigan! Looks like the voters there did a fine job of picking out a fine group to represent them.
And I’d just like to mention that these people that think they’re “f*cked” are soooo pathetic!

dang, Michigan is getting bold! All you brothers and sisters over there doing this hard work, my respect to you!

First Right to Work, now Right to Life – Michigan has grown a pair! WooHoo! Next step, you’re a red state!

      Proud of Michigan today!

As a person who moved his family from California to Michigan three years ago, I can say with pride I am glad to be in Michigan!

Heaven forbid that people want abortion clinics to be inspected. Last I checked, fast food restaurants are inspected. Wouldn’t you want a medical facility to be inspected also?
And do these people really think it should be legal to FORCE someone to have an abortion?
WTF. Dem logic is THE WORST.

Kate, what is so pathetic to me is that the whole push before Roe v Wade was so that there’d be no more “back alley abortions.”

Then they get it legalized, but don’t mind if the sanitation of the “clinics” is no different than a back alley.

Remember that horrid story a few years ago in Philadelphia of that abortion clinic where nothing was sterilized and multiple women died? I didn’t see anyone on the left being up in arms about that.

It really makes no sense. Regardless of your position on abortion, it’s only common sense that it should be safe and sanitary. Your hamburger joint is inspected to make sure it complies with laws and is sanitary – but the abortion clinic shouldn’t be? WTF.

And making coercion illegal? Another no brainer.

This seems like a totally common sense abortion law, targeted towards safety and making sure vulnerable women are protected. Why would anyone oppose it??

OMG! Regulating the ‘disposal’ of aborted fetuses aka babies? I might have to move back to Michigan! Go Gov. Snyder (not Synder, MEA)!

That was a funny picture. I wonder if she was a spelling teacher.

Red states need to use Michigan as a model.

I’m being completely serious here – I’m liking Michigan a lot. I’m thinking that with some work it could become “Cold Texas”. Kudos!

Wait a second. If the Left considers abortion medicine, shouldn’t it be treated like medicine and therefore its clinics subject to inspection? I didn’t realize looking out for a woman’s well-being was anti-woman.

BTW, how is preventing a boyfriend/husband/parent from dragging a woman to an abortion clinic wrong?

Massive 45 page bill? What did TP called the Obamacare bill?!?!

  • George Washington Mclintock

Damn, Rick Snyder’s admin is kicking some ass in a blue state: beating the unions, making fools of the feminists, and shutting down Dearbornistan. He’s putting together a serious track record up there. Let’s get him to Washington. He clearly knows how to win with a conservative agenda. I mean, maybe Michigan couldn’t fall any farther under the Dems, but still, can’t argue with his successes.

I think the big key to his success is that his traditionally very blue state is so fed up with progressivism that they stacked their entire legislature with conservatives.

If only we’d manage to stack the GOP with conservatives. I’m so sick and tired of them appeasing the Dems…
