NBC's Sunday night football sermon: Tony Dungy runs interference for Costas

As Twitchy reported yesterday, the tragic drunk driving death of Dallas Cowboys player Jerry Brown had many viewers wondering whether anti-gun zealot Bob Costas would call for prohibition.

Well, Costas brought on social conservative football coach Tony Dungy to deliver social commentary for him. Viewers (mostly) approved:

How about making this a permanent arrangement?

Bob Costas hijacks Sunday Night Football to give anti-gun lecture

Costas’ voice had an undertone of “I’m aching to lecture somebody on something” the whole time he was talking.

Bob Costas is a coward and a phony.

I turn the sound off and watch the damn game! I can’t stand to listen to any of them!

Hey, it’s December 9…how can those Tweets already be posted tomorrow? It’s only 10:48 on the east coast.

Greenwich mean time, old chap . . . and now that you know the secret, a double-0 will be visiting you shortly.

As a head coach, Tony Dungy has been there, done that. As a broadcaster, Bob Costas is fast becoming a has been.

I’ll thumb that up, although a lot of guys who broadcast are just wash-outs whose sole purpose is to fill in air time.

Yes, Costas is OK with a Christian conservative, IF it helps him out. I have no issue w/ Costas talking about the murder-suicide NFL story….but, he missed the point. It was all about domestic violence…violence by men against women, in any form. That was and is THE issue of that one story.

Why do we need this b.s. drivel Costas segment anyway? Save that for the talk shows! Its game time! I just want to hear about the game! The game should be my escape from all the politics etc. in all of the dreary other media…

  • SideshowJon36

NFL’s problem isn’t guns or alcohol. It’s that we allow them to exist as man-children with no accountability

    • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

Well, when these “conservatives” who like football betray their small govnt principles and use taxpayer money to fund stadiums for unionized millionares and biliionare CEO’s, that’s what you get.

      • SideshowJon36

I dunno. Say what you want, but Verizon Center and National’s Stadium turned parts of DC that were once gang war-zones into beautiful areas of the city, both in less than a decade. Much better use of money than all the cash they flush down that toilet of their school system.

No, leftwingwackos will call for the outlawing of cars. Al Gore does it all the time.

Just more reasons why I’ve boycotted the NFL, NBC and other sports teams. If those beasts can’t handle the heat when they say and do stupid things, they ought to stay away from the political issues I miss my Packers, but kicked them to the proverbial curb when they stood with the union thugs against Governor Walker. Pro sports has become a festering mass of union thugs, petulant assholes, women beaters, child rapists, drunk drivers, drug addicts, cheaters, greediness, selfishness and political hacks. Good riddance.

This comment might be unpopular, but I’d like to know if anybody has held the deceased passenger, Jerry Brown, accountable as well for his own “tragic” “untimely” death. He chose to get into a car with a driver that he likely knew shouldn’t have been driving. I would have refused to get into that car. Whatever happened to self-responsibility?

I have yet to see a picture of Jerry Brown (except for an ahole who posted a picture of Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown.) But I’ve seen numerous pics of the driver. Why is that?
