Obamas to go 'Gangnam Style' for Christmas, Psy invited to perform

Maybe. Perhaps if the South Korean rapper hadn’t already appeared on every TV show to perform “Gangnam Style,” a performance for the Obamas would be getting a bigger buzz. The U.S. Embassy is excited, at least.

What says Christmas like “Gangnam Style”? Not to mention, both Psy and President Obama share the honor of being nominated for Time magazine’s Person of the Year, so the appearance is definitely a BFD. At least Psy had the sense to realize the nod was an “LOL” moment.

Correction: Twitchy originally stated that the White House was set to go “Gangnam Style” this Christmas. The Obamas will attend PSY’s “Christmas in Washington” performance, but the concert venue is the National Building Museum. This post has been updated to reflect that information.

…and it looks like Gangnam Style is effectively ruined for me. Thanks again for nothing, Obama! >.<

The only way it’ll be ruined for me if we start seeing pictures of Obama doing Gangnam Style. Or Joe Biden (shudder!).

      • mdtljt

Oh, it could be worse…think Pelosi, Boxer, Waters, Rangel, Reid….sorry, I need to go poke my eyes out now, and I wholeheartedly apologize for putting those awful images in y’all’s heads…my BIG bad…

my problem here is that the show will be used as a smoke screen showing a “cool and young president who understands the young minds”

as for psy; meh, he hit the gold mine and is taking adventage of it. besides, he hasn’t done anything douchy.

    • Blake Waymire

Tell that to the Koreans. He’s notable for doing some douchey things earlier in his career and actually coming back from it. Scandals in Korea can actually hurt performers, which is why the big idol groups like Girls’ Generation and KARA try to stay away from them. PSY’s had a few of them, including being in possession of illegal drugs. This was a while back, but, again, it’s strange for a Korean performer to come back from something like that.

Isn’t that the guy who was trying to sell real estate on TV about ten years ago?

Always on a yacht. Or at poolside surrounded by bimbos.

Slimy as Hell little cretin and twice as creepy.

    • scubaski00

No wonder Obama admires him…birds of a feather!!!

  • CombatDiver

    Psy = MC Hammer 2.0

      Don’t wanna touch that … 😀

And just how much is this little party going to cost the American Taxpayer?

Holy crap on cracker, just add this one to the $4M vacation bill …

  • Kate

Brace yourself for a video of Obummer doing the “Gangnam Style” Dance (if one doesn’t exist already).

    Lord help us all…

  • Joe W.

Am I the only person in America who does not know what “Gangnam Style” is or who Psy is??

    • cgraham77

Don’t worry about it. Just another one hit wonder. It will be over in about a week.

      • scubaski00

I was hoping that’s how long Obama was going to last….sadly we have to continue to hold our breath for another four.

      • Guest

Psy is far from a one hit wonder, buddy. He’d had many successful songs before Gangnam Style was popular.

        • cgraham77

Oh sure…and nobody here can even name a single one! LOL!!

What are you, one of his prepubescent fans? A Psy apologist? Give me a freaking break.

He will go down in the halls of fame with the Macarena, Achy Breaky Heart, and the Electric Slide. Get back with me in a week, when Psy is all but forgotten.

I don’t have anything against the guy, personally, I’m sure he’s perfectly nice. But he’s a one hit wonder! And people should spend more time idolizing someone who has actually made valuable contributions to the world!! Good grief.

    • my preciousss!!

      now there’s 2 of us.

  • detroit19

    Keep it classy, Obama. (puke)

  • agroulx

Wow, doesn’t everybody love how Cool our president is? I never thought Washington could relate to the average American so well.
Actually I can’t believe how much of a joke our government has become. Sometimes I wish the Mayans are right so I don’t have to suffer through Americas collapse..

  • scubaski00

Obama sure does know how to put the GANG in Gangnam!

    Merry Christmas Barry!!

  • Laura Jensen

It’s a song about privileged Koreans. You can not buy this kind of irony.

    • cgraham77

All along I thought it was about idiots doing a horsey dance O_O

    • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

It’s a joke song about privileged Koreans.
It’s actually really funny, if you know what he’s singing. And, for the most part, he’s making fun of the privileged Koreans and flower boys, kinda.

He doesn’t take himself seriously. That’s part of his schtick. It’s a meld of modern Korean pop star with typical Korean slapsticky, physical, over-the-top, over-expressive humor. (edited to add: Korean “humor” is different than you might expect. There’s a reason that older Koreans loved things like “The I Love Lucy Show” and “The Benny Hill Show.”)

But you have to admit, the chubby boy can still dance better than most and the tune is catchy. :)

  • yviemarie88

It still makes me mad the stupid redneck Clinton’s killed Fleetwood Mac for me. Still get that sick feeling when I hear them.

  • Guest

No surprise. The Gangnam Style referred to in the song is in reference to how the girls who live Gang (river) Nam (south) are all upper class but turn into “very willing” playthings. Amazing a song about something so base is a world wide hit.

    • ORen_Ishii

You clearly don’t speak Korean because that isn’t what the song is about at all.

Edit: OK, vote me down and vote him up all you want. It doesn’t make what he said true.

  • Teresa Davis McCormick

I love Psy and the whole “Korean Wave” ! If you ever get a chance, check out a Korean Drama. Unlike the crap that comes out of Hollywood, they are really good stories without all of the sex and immoral behavior. And they actually have an actual ending to them. Also I love the boy band called BIGBANG. My 10 yr old can listen to really good music without all the negative influence.

    • ORen_Ishii

Word. Korean cinema is the same way. Frankly, Korea’s culture at large is just better than ours. We’re starting to become a bad influence on the world. Whereas Hollywood has been exporting the left’s cancerous nihilistic hedonism, the Korean wave rides on a sea of strong moral values and good role models.

      • Blake Waymire

Definitely. One of the reasons I love Korean music is because the singers tend to be genuinely nice people. And there is a huge majority of outspoken Christians in the Korean industry, which makes it more appealing. Tiffany Hwang and Choi Sooyoung from Girls’ Generation and Nicole Jung from KARA are notable examples, with all of them giving very public thanks to God on award, radio, and variety shows (should be easy to find examples of them).

  • ORen_Ishii

Pretty dumb for some to attack Psy for this. He’s a good guy, and performing for the Obamas doesn’t change that. The amount of attention he and KPop at large are getting as a result of Gangnam Style is phenomenal, and he’d have to be insane to pass over continuing that trend by performing for the President of the United States. It’s an honor and he deserves it.

    • mhojai

It’s really a stretch to put “honor” and a reference to the current POS POTUS in the same sentence. He has effectively removed every shred of dignity and honor from the office. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to be in the same room with the narcisstic scum bag.
