Syrian military reportedly mixing sarin gas; Has 'red line' been crossed?

The United States gave Syria’s Bashar Assad a stern warning Monday, promising that there would be consequences if the country crossed the red line of using chemical weapons. Has that line been crossed? Several news outlets are reporting tonight that Syria has mixed the chemicals to produce the nerve agent sarin gas and begun loading it into aerial bombs, provoking fears of war and possible U.S. military intervention.

Some are questioning the credibility of the reports. How is a person supposed to trust the partisans at Fox? Or CNN? Or in the intelligence community?

Here’s a late-breaking update from the White House: a photo of the president and first lady walking down the stairs.

Are they headed to a bomb shelter?

  • poppawillis

The next line crossed by Assad will be what?…. Peppermint?

  • Just Another Guy

The Obama administration is good at drawing lines…just not doing anything about them when they are crossed.

    • Finrod Felagund

Obama only draws lines against Republicans. Foreign dictators, he bows to.

      • Just Another Guy

Sadly, true. I’m going to use that on a Tweet, Finrod 😉

I’ll bet that Barky and his wookie can’t wait to get to Hawaii so he won’t have to deal with this “bump in the road”…..

  • ricci

    shows where sadams WMDs went

    • deano24

A Russian General did say that Saddam sent his chemical weapons to Syria before the U.S. went into Iraq.

    • nc

I always believed they went somewhere. Just because we couldn’t “find” them didn’t mean they didn’t exist. Wonder if there will be a way to prove a connection. Obviously, I hope they never get used.

      • deano24

From watching the news, They’re being readied.

Prior to the invasion of iraq there was a day when we saw translated chatter on Iraq military net that was clearly indicating that orders to transport weapons out of Iraq to Syria had been completed. I was only reported on for a day, and then no one brought it up again. Did the US endorse Assad’s receipt of the inventories as a better scenario than leaving them in Iraq? Makes sense then, but as is the case time and time again with this country’s middle east policies, it looks like it’s coming back to haunt us now.

    • Finrod Felagund

Exactly! All the liberal whining from last decade about the WMDs in Iraq that were never found– we’re probably going to see them used awfully soon. Hope not, but hope doesn’t go far in the Middle East.

  • whatthehell

Syrian military mixing sarin gas? Uh-Oh, looks like a red line has been crossed! Time to convene a UN emergency meeting to discuss the Israeli housing units floor plans.

  • vcferlita

POTUS has to get ready for big taxpayer paid trip to Hawaii.

    • JustLikeAnimals

Barack Hussein could give damn all what happens in this country, much less in Syria. He’s perfectly willing to take a $4 million vacation at taxpayer expense while citizens in NY, NJ, and CT live in squalor in Sandra’s aftermath.

Barack Hussein cares about one thing and one thing only: The aggrandizement of Barack Hussein.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

What will President Useless do? Hawaii Baby!!

  • Wigglesworth

This story was put out there by Obama to give him cover for a bombing campaign. Will he get approval from Congress this time?

    • ked5

he doesn’t care about congress. He’ll just issue an exec. order like he did with libya.

  • RblDiver

Given what’s happened in Libya and Egypt, I can’t really find it in myself to care too much so long as they’re killing each other. As bad as I feel for thinking this way, so long as they don’t try to attack others, I think we should stay out of it all.

  • r_coplin2001

I bet Syrian President Assad will use Sarin gas as a last ditch effort to keep control of Syria or to punish the rebels if his goverment falls to the rebels.

  • scubaski00

In other news Syria does in fact have weapons of mass destruction. Who knew???

Anyone else loving this is all happening on obamas and Clinton’s watch?? Not that degenerate lobs give a flying fig

    • Marcy Cook

The only thing that would have been better is if this had happened maybe 4-6 months ago and it would have cost odumbo the election.

  • riddler1620

So, red lines apply to Syria and their potential use of poison gas on their own citizens, but when Iran threatens Israel with a nuclear holocaust red lines are a nuisance which get in the way of diplomacy. Go figure.

  • Dusquene Whistler

This is what we’ve waited for, this is it boys, this is war!(99Luftballoons)

  • CombatDiver

I’m sure the UN will send Syria a stearnly worded letter and manage to work in a back door insult to Israel.

  • JustLikeAnimals

It’s a bullshit question. Assad has killed 40,000 Syrian citizens and the inept administration of this country has sat idly by with its dick in its hand and done absolutely nothing. Add the fact that NATO did absolutely nothing when Assad lobbed rockets into Turkey, killing several of its citizens, and thereby turning the NATO Treaty’s proclamation that “an attack on one is an attack on all” into a big fat paper tiger, and I’d have to surmise that Bashar Assad has no reason to think that the US will do anything at any time.

I think the US is hoping Russia will step in and put Assad on a leash like they did a couple of years ago. Problem is, Assad is at the end of the road now and it doesn’t seem to go anywhere for him from here. He’s reached out in the last few days to find a country for exile, but there are apparently no takers. So what’s he got to lose? Even if he thinks our spec-ops will take him out, he seems to be determined to take a few hundred thousand Syrians with him.

Another fine mess that Barack Hussein, Hillary, & Co. have gotten the world into in the Middle East.

    • Marcy Cook

But…but…but Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive!!!!!!!!

  • Rick Stones

During the VP debate, Jo(k)e(r) Biden laughed and grinned like some deranged lunatic when he was asked why his boss is allowing Iran to build a nuclear weapon. He told us to “calm down people”… I’m sure he has similar advice regarding Syria’s chemical weapons… “Calm down people. I put two spoonfuls of that crap in my Capt’n Crunch every morning and look at me, I’m doin’ fine!”

  • scalzo

Now we know where Sadam Hussein’s chemical weapons went. Straight into Syria. They don’t have the nerve to try and use it on Israel. Israel would FK their ass up so bad it wouldn’t be funny. Obama is all talk in a way I want Assad to use it just to see if Obama has any nuts at all.

  • BenghaziBob

Botox nan needs to reason with her BFF Assad. She visited him during President Bushs time in office and has the photos to prove she was there.
