How can NBC still function as a credible network after they just referred to Whoopi Goldberg as a "National Treasure"

Whoopi Goldberg is a lot of things. She is an apologist for child rapist Roman Polanski (“it wasn’t rape rape”). She is a supporter of Hamas. She is a person who plays fast-and-loose with facts (see here, here, and here).
But we’re not quite sure we’d agree that Goldberg is a “National Treasure.” Many tweeters seem to feel the same way:

Absolutely stupid that Savannah Guthrie called Whoopi a "national treasure" No way in hell is that ok to say.—

Did NBC just refer to Whoopi Goldberg as a "National Treasure"?!?!? Really? Whoopi? The pride of the U.S.A.? Mmmmmmkay.—

Ok…now they just called Whoopi Goldberg a "national treasure", thus devaluing the phrase "national treasure" #MacysLiveTweet—

Whoopi Goldberg? National treasure? Those words do not mean what you think it means.—
