Israeli model Bar Refaeli tweets support for IDF

According to Hebrew-speaking Twitter users, the signs says, “Well done IDF!”

Previously, Rafaeli tweeted support for both sides in the conflict:

  • Paul C.

    I stand with Israel !!

  • 2ifbyT

Too bad she avoided mandatory military service with the IDF by marrying (and then divorcing less than a year later). This from 2009: “I really wanted to serve in the IDF, but I don’t regret not enlisting, because it paid off big time,” she said. “That’s just the way it is, celebrities have other needs. I hope my case has influenced the army.”

Total fake. She’s a Jewish version of the Kardashians.

    • Chris Mackey

LOL. I read about her “celebrities have other needs” b4, and I agree with you; she’s just the Israeli version of the kardashians. Totally worthless woman.

    • Hiraghm

I’m glad she didn’t serve. Women are what you fight *for*.

      • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Now now Jim, women are perfectly capable of defending their country, family, and friends. I’m sure you had the best intentions at heart when you typed that out but it still sounds bigoted

        • cat

reminds me of that first women navy fighter pilot crashed trying to land on a carrier. . affirmative action at work.

          • Maria

I knew a female Thunderbird pilot. She didn’t get there by Affirmative Action or because she was bad at her job of being a pilot. She got there because she was damn good at her job.

        • TocksNedlog

Uh, WHERE did he say that women are incapable of defending their country?

        • Skeeps

It sounds nice to pretend men and women are exactly the same in every way but there’s a reason women ended up picking berries and men were the ones hunting and protecting, and it aint because cavemen were sexist.

          • Maria

Women provide support in the Military.

          • Skeeps

That’s a cool story but what is your point?

          • Maria

I thought by that analogy you meant women shouldn’t serve in a war zone at all and was stating their purpose therein. If I mis-read, my apologies.

        • Teresa Davis McCormick

hey i am a woman and I don’t want to be in the military either. I’m fine taking care of my own kids. That’s boot camp for me. lol

      • Brian Roastbeef

I agree with Jim on the overall point.

That said, she didn’t dodge because she’s female or even because she believes that the law should be changed for women. She dodged because she’s an entitled celebrity and even basically admitted as much if the above quote is true. Hard to respect that. Jimmy Stewart, Ronald Reagan, Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, David Niven, Ted Williams, Stan Musial didn’t give two craps about the “other needs” of celebrities when it came time to serve in WWII…

        • Teresa Davis McCormick

In south Korea, all the men do a mandatory 2 yrs (?) in the military no matter what. And it doesn’t matter if they are actors or not. That’s why we as a country are getting weaker. Other countries put their pride in their patriotism.

          • Maria

I’m all for it, it might make a man out of a lot of males, like those uber Liberal male celebrities for one.

          • Brian Roastbeef

That’s true. I remember hearing about that being questioned with the rise of professional golf over there. The answer, last I knew: tough luck. Practice your stroke on your free time and wait a couple years to join the tour. Haven’t heard any complaining out of KJ Choi and YE Yang on it either… their careers have gone just fine without need for special treatment.

      • world’s greatest orator

Hate to break it to you but the IDF’s quite well versed in the whole birds & bees thing. Unfortunately freshly trained servicemen are a finite resource and her self-interested decision to spend that time standing in front of a camera for money meant that another guy had to man a desk or serve in an HQ support role at some point, while she partied & did drugs with sleazy agents in NYC. Don’t try to gloss her abdication of civic responsibility as some triumph of traditional morality

      • Dondalonda

now i have the song from Mulan, “A Girl Worth Fighting For,” running in my head.

      • Yoon YoungJo

I agree Jim. Not that women CANT fight. They can fight. I just believe MEN are suppose protect women, even if they can protect themselves. Im not against letting women want to fight, fight. I just dont see the need to require it.

        • Maria

I agree. It should be like in the U.S., voluntary service for women. We shouldn’t be on the front lines either as we’re not physically compatible with men nor as strong. Then again, Israeli women seem sturdier than ours, judging from the Israeli Air Force women I’ve met. Wonderful ladies.

      • Maria

Women serve well in support roles in a war zone, though not on front lines. Women should always be allowed in the Military.

    • Maria

She is a selfish, selfish woman! She puts herself above everyone else, even her own country! Yes, she is an Israeli Kardashian.

    • DaleVM14W

      Excellent point, my friend!

  • cat

if she’s preaching make love not war, I’m sold . The line would stretch from Tel Alvie to Lebanon

  • afvet4america

I stand with Israel. Don’t care if she served or not. Can’t change the past, God must have had this in the plan for her. God Bless the USA and God Bless Israel.

  • Tanker74

    That makes Bar even hotter.

  • Damn_Yankee

Has she finally decided which side of the fence she’s on after previously supporting both sides?

  • Back 4 More

She will side with who ever pays the most

    • YeahWeWill

      What is she, an attorney?

  • John Kerry’s Forehead

Imagine if she did a tour in IDF. Hot and dangerous. Good combinatuon.

    • Maria

When I was working on a Military base, we had Israeli troops come in for exercises. I don’t bat for the other team, but their women are strikingly beautiful.

  • world’s greatest orator

She temporarily wedded a relative to avoid her first draft call before moving to L.A. to really emphatically dodge the 2-year requirement. Such a profile in patriotism!

  • Darth Wyatt

From her Wikipedia page: “The Israeli Forum for the Promotion of Equal Share in the Burden threatened to boycott the fashion chain Fox
if they hired Refaeli, but the two sides reached a compromise in which
Refaeli agreed to visit injured IDF soldiers on visits to Israel and
    encourage enlistment in the army.”

She’s only tweeting support because it is part of her “compromise.” It’s basically a plea deal.

  • YeahWeWill

    I stand with Israel!
