Kevin Clash, voice of Elmo, resigns amid more accusations of sex with minors; Sesame Street says a ‘distraction’

As Twitchy reported, Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, took a leave of absence when allegations of a sexual relationship with a minor boy surfaced. That accuser then recanted. Today, another accuser surfaced.

Clash has now resigned.

Effective? Really? That’s the biggest concern?

Sesame Street Workshop issued a statement.

Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential.  Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization.  Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us wants, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street.  This is a sad day for Sesame Street.

Oh, a distraction. Nothing to see here, move along. What if the accusations are true, Sesame Street? Still a “distraction?”

Twitchy will continue to monitor this story and update with any developments.

After all the talk of firing Big Bird, it is actually Elmo who deserved the ax.

    • JamesS

      Well said

    • conservativechick

Seems they couldn’t intimidate all of them into silence. Shame, huh? 😉

  • Kristi Reagan

PBS is vile, but in this instance I took the “distraction” phrasing as a nod to the presumption of innocence. As in: “Even if he eventually turns out to be innocent, we can’t have someone who attracts these kinds of allegations associated with our organization.”

Eh, what do I know? I’m in the minority that didn’t believe our electorate could possibly be dumb enough to give “Jimmy Carter: The Reckoning” a second term.

Those pedofiles always like jobs where they can be close to children…

    • Burt Zerker

      You got that right.

    • goldwater89

Has he been convicted of anything? Does ‘innocent until proven guilty’ mean anything to you?

      • JannyMae

If this was a court of law, you’d have a point, goldwater.

      • Jillane Kent

Were you loudly supporting a rational approach to Sandusky before his trial?

      • TocksNedlog

Only when speaking of Michael Jackson.

    O NOES!!!!!

Whose puppet’s backside is Mr. Clash going to be sticking his hand up now?!!!

    Oh, the Hugh Manatee!!!

  • Burt Zerker

It was only a matter of time, such thing as just 1 victim. He might have bought off the first victim,..but he won’t be able to buy off a dozen,…or more.

  • scubaski00

Suddenly Sandusky has a cell mate! Disgusting!!

    • Jay McHue

You’ll notice how quickly people went after Sandusky, but as for the black liberal gay guy who is on PBS…

      • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

The Penn State student body was quick alright… quick to riot in defense of their beloved “joePa”. *gag*

        • Jay McHue

Well, I should’ve been clearer that I was referring to the authorities when they finally learned about his actions, but you make a cogent point.

  • IN_RadioGuy

    Elmo, No Mo’.

  • $21367552

How convenient that this accuser is now going for $5 million just days after the last accuser. He just realized after all the years just how emotionally traumatized he was by this alleged encounter.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

    A distraction…ya think?

    • Zach Peterson

Nice, huh? Molesting a child is considered ‘distracting’ to sesame st.

  • FromNJ

I wonder if this means Elmo is gone too. Or will they find a new puppeteer to take over the role?

    • Kristi Reagan

Elmo is too valuable a commodity to let go; they’ll get a new puppeteer. Maybe the person who operates Al Sharpton is available part-time.

      • yahneverknow

        BAH hahahaha!!!

        (but, ew.)

    • Jay McHue

I saw someone online mention something about understudies taking over the role. I really don’t know if Sesame Street employs understudies.

  • TocksNedlog

    Fondle me, Elmo

  • Teresa Davis McCormick

“Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media”
Yes maybe that’s why everything is so messed up. No thank you muppets, I’ll be educating my children and grandchildren instead of you. Jim Henson should have had them liquidated upon his death. They have really screwed things up.

Queue libs crying about Catholic priests in 3… 2… 1…

Funny how people that are seemingly more influential (I.E. “Elmo”, Jerry Sandusky) are glamorized/defended by the left.

Remember the riots at Penn State for the perceived insult to their revered “JoePa”? Not one shed tear for the victims. At least, not until their folly was pointed out to them. The fact that it HAD to be pointed out, speaks volumes.

For the record, I know Catholic priests are influential, but they aren’t in the public eye, every day. I say this is just another attempt to desensitize the public to the horror of pedophilia.
