Benghazi testimony: Petraeus knew it was a terrorist attack; CIA talking points changed, says Rep. King

David Petraeus delievered testimony about the Benghazi terrorist attack to the House intelligence committee this morning. According to Rep. Peter King, Petraeus said he knew from the beginning that the attack wasn’t a “spontaneous” response to some crummy video.

Petraeus was not under oath in the closed-door hearing.

King believes Petraeus changed his testimony.

King said that references to al Qaida appear to have been removed from the CIA’s Benghazi talking points before being used in public.

What was the White House’s involvement?

More on the hearing:

And before you ask, yes, the affair came up briefly.

Why is no one pointing out that by spreading this false lie about an American who made a film insulting Allah and apologizing for it, the Obama administration contributed to the violence in the area? Many Muslims knew NOTHING about this bogus video ‘excuse’ BO floated as a cover for a real TERRORIST attack! I blame Obama for much of the violence now!

Kind of like screaming “Fire” in a crowded theater…he should be held accountable for the destruction.

    • RealityBitesBack

Same reason Romney got into a sissy slap-fight with Obama over whether he said “terrorist attack” in the Rose Garden instead of asking him why the US government bought nearly $100K in advertising so Hillary could apologize to Libyans for the video.

You are absolutely right about the role that Obama has played in stirring the volatile Middle East pot. I’m constantly stunned at the lengths to which he will go and the depths to which he will sink… all for his own career and power hungry ego.

Instead of trying to figure out how the RNC can win the war on women, maybe they should figure out how to expose the political propaganda for what it really is.

Sad to say that I agree with you! Except, obaMaos’s just a marionette being played by those behind the scenes. Just doing the massa’s bidding: Bilderberg Club.

The buck stops where again? All I’m seeing is a hot potato and a bunch of overpaid bureaucrats who don’t want to take responsibility for anything.

Obama says come after ME, so why don’t the cowards do just that now? The buck stops with OBAMA!

      • aaCharley

Obama made the challenge of “Come after ME.” Does that mean that he volunteered to testify under oath for the hearings investigating this?

It takes time to subpoena a president, even a fake one. It took weeks to get Petraeus. It may take centuries to get the false messiah.

        • Ben Bollman

Exactly and you have the Democratic Senate and the media doing everything they can to cover for him. It is disturbing how little Obama is being held accountable for anything he does.

      • JustLikeAnimals

The minute they subpoena him, Obama will plead executive privilege and that will be that. As will Hillary, Rice, and anyone else connected to the Obamacracy.

How did the words “Al Qaeda” and “terrorist attack” get removed from the final talking points? I don’t know? They ran them through CAIR and Al Jazeera prior to sending Rice on the Sunday shows.

    • brewerandpatriot

Maybe they were playing the classic childhood game Telephone, and somebody botched the message errr talking points by the end of the line.

      • Stephen Mizer

That’s true! Susan Rice went on a sixth show on Spike TV called “Political Pong” in which she said the Benghazi attack was the result of a video game.

        Nice try, no cigar.

It was said Petraeus orginally said it was the Youtube reaction. I thought it was surprising back then. The White House may have altered that account! Also, the golden question is- Who prepared the talking points for Susan Rice? It should be an easy question! You usually prepares talking points? Why would that fact change? Obama admitted Rice was asked by the White House to present information on the attack. She should have never been put out there. Obama should have handled that, but then he would be accountable for his words!

    • StatEco

During the first press conference, didn’t the not-worthy-to-be-mentioned said the White House told Susan Rice what to say?

This isn’t going to go anywhere. We’ll never find out what really happened.

Petraeus chose a position in a far left administration after they had done all they could to destroy him (General Betrayus). Why anyone would put themselves under the authority of their enemy in the first place is beyond me.

Then, he betrayed his military vows AND his marriage vows by engaging in an extra-marital relationship.

Then he testified under oath before Congress the attacks were a mob action spun out of control when he knew for a fact it was a terrorist attack. He lied. Deliberately. With forethought. It is imperative that he tell the truth, regardless of what the talking points say. Does the security of his country not come before his loyalty to the administration? His behavior is sickening on so many levels. He may have been a great military general, but that does not mean he is not a morally bankrupt man.

Representative King’s statements leave one with the impression that no one is really interested in getting down to the nitty gritty and finding out what truly happened. It was “awkward” to discuss Patraeus’s immoral behavior that defied the discipline necessary to run the military and CIA. So it won’t be discussed. Don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable here.

When will this country demand real leaders? When??!

    • Stephen Mizer

We tried, but it’s hard to beat a system in which the other side just creates votes from thin air.

  • jakeandlizzie

A waste of time. Voter did not choose the President. Fraud from every possible angle. This President will rule this country by EO. Justices supporting the dismantling of the Constituion will be appointed in droves. We may never see another election as our country continues to decline – and it didn’t begin 4 years ago. Progressives have been working in both political parties, education, media, religious originations, entertainment, etc to bring us this time. We have slowly be accepting the lose of liberty and now awaking up and it may be to late to put the breaks on. Our country has changed for every the elite liberals will rule us like cattle until we are just another third word country doing their biding.

  • James H

I would have expected a man of high integrity who is concerned with the security of this nation and it’s envoys to have spoken up at the time Susan Rice was misleading the nation at the Presidents behest on Sunday TV talk shows that all of DC are hyper aware of.

Only one way for Petraeus to redeem himself – at least in my eyes – come forward and tell the unvarnished, unequivocal truth without any room for interpretation.

  • John Turner

Film maker still in the Slammer!

  • Marcy Cook

Petraeus is a traitor for not manning up BEFORE the election. So what if he told the truth and then the affair was exposed. People would have overlooked the affair in light of information that the WH was deliberately trying to cover this up. He covered his ass to save his ass and had no regard for the country. Ultimately the blame should be on the dumb ass who just got re-elected but it won’t fall on him. The media has the power to make the president and the power to destroy the president. But for some reason they won’t. But they live in this country too and will reap whatever the dictator sows right along with us. If any of these media people live in or near your neighborhoods you should organize a group to visit their homes and protest their lies and misinformation and then let their sponsors know that if the media does not start telling the truth about the dictator you will not buy their products. I think there are enough of us to do that.

    • Timothy Noonan

How the hell can you possibly say General Petraeus is a traitor with no regard for country? Your god damn ideology has you all mucked up. What is wrong with you?

      • Back 4 More

You said “how”, you’re racist against native Americans.

        • Timothy Noonan

          I’m a native American.

          • Michelle

Me too! “Native” means the place where something came into existence. I was born in the United States, so that alone makes me a Native American!

          • Timothy Noonan

            Indeed. My point.

          • Back 4 More

Damn, you’re a self hating native? Man, you must be miserable. I think Maddow sells an ointment for that.

          • Timothy Noonan

Hating? from what I read here, there are many others who are hating, and especially miserable.

          • BeautifulAmerica

            Don’t you hate tyranny?
Don’t you hate lies? Corruption? Stealing? Murder? Sodomy and murder of an Ambassador? Murder of 4 innocent men? Jihad against America and a “president” who promotes it? What’s not to hate?

          • Timothy Noonan

Wow! You are and you lot are so twisted by hate. Barack Obama is our President so drop the quotes, whether you like him or not. Furthermore, if you really want to have any credibility in any argument, drop the idiotic jihad ridiculousness.

    • Kenna Neel

Wondering: Commander In Chief ordered Petraeus to lie or they would expose his affair. (they already knew about it) Then they exposed him anyway to destroy his credibility. Truth now, too little, too late for him, but…

  • Bill

I think the focus should be on Panetta. He left the CIA for DOD at the end of June 2011. If the annex was being used as a temp prison to interrogate Libyans then could the slow response be to cover-up what Panetta had created? Just asking.

  • Steve_J

Than why didn’t he give Congress the CIA assement and not some regurgitated spontaneous riot garbage?

  • disappearing moderate

The democrat explanation is that the talking points were altered so as not to tip off the terrorists! The same terrorists who claimed credit for the attack before the day was out. Good grief.

  • nobama1267

I’m retired army. Why hasn’t anyone asked to hear the audio tapes on what happened that night along with the videos? Everything is recorded.

    • BeautifulAmerica

Good point. Let’s email Feinstein and demand an answer to that. Pronto.

  • Terry

Obama is the one who changed the talking points. In his pressor this week, he SAID Rice went out with the information his administration gave her. Does anyone really believe his administration gave her information and didn’t tell him what it was? Hell no. He knew it, and he approved. What I want to know is why the hell he didn’t send in help to our citizens while they were being attacked over 7 hours.

    • BeautifulAmerica

Why and How could he have sadistically watched our men being killed, then turned off the TV and gone to bed to prepare for more excitement at Las Vegas? Mind-boggling. But it shows obaMao’s level of compassion and honor.

  • BeautifulAmerica

Teacher, teacher! I got the answer! It was Valerie Jarrett and David Axelgrease!
