Layoff bomb joined by hiring freeze: Small biz owners say ‘I won’t be hiring for a long time’

And the devastating hits just keep coming.

https://twitter.com/em_rrryy/status/267663465445982208

Elections, they have consequences.

https://twitter.com/Sullivans_Projs/status/267304741997002752

As Twitchy has reported, large companies are contemplating hiring freezes and cuts in workers’ hours. Small business owners, and employees, have reported massive reductions in hours necessitated by the business-crushing cost of mandatory insurance coverage for people working over 30 hours per week. Part-time is the new normal.

Small business owners on Twitter have talked about the heartbreak of having to lay off employees. Now, many are reporting that they will not be hiring new employees for the foreseeable future. The layoff bomb has resulted in a hiring freeze avalanche.

Sad, indeed. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is #Forward? We can thank Obama for the destructive policies that are crushing businesses and devastating lives.

  • Lord Foggybottom

Hopefully this devastation won’t take as long to come to a close as it did in the USSR. Once we hit rock bottom we can rebuild. Kind of like going to rehab. Liberals love when people go to rehab…

    • Teresa Davis McCormick

That’s exactly what Obama wanted…to take us all down to nothing…he thinks we’ll be more willing to accept his socialist rebuilding up. That’s why we have to be ready in 4 years. Revolution time

      • GaryTheBrave

Disagree with you, Teresa. We have to be ready in TWO years to regain the Senate. If conservatives can get 15 seats we’ll have the 2/3 majority to stop Obama-One-Kenobi in his tracks. No liberal Supreme Court Justice, no levying of taxes on business owners, no reductions in our rights.

To do this we must prepare today.

        • Shagnasty1

All any party needs is 51 Senators to block passage of bills or confirm nominations. Two thirds Senate majority is needed to pass bills.

          • Zanshi

A filibuster requires 41 votes to block cloture. 67 votes are needed to override a presidential veto. We need a veto block majority, otherwise, Obamacare will never be repealed.

          • Shagnasty1

Thank you for adding this information to my comment.

          • Megara7

Harry Reid is trying to get rid of the filibuster.

          • teaanyone?

I say they filibuster Harry Reid trying to get rid of the filibuster.

        • Shawn Boyett

Hate to crap in your drawers there buddy, but only 1/3rd of the Senate seats are up for re-election. It’ll be nigh impossible to pick up that many gains so quickly! But it is of the utmost importance that we DO gain seats and that we continue to educate people on what is going on in this nation and change the path of this country with our votes.

          • GaryTheBrave

I know only 1/3 is up but that’s 33 or 34 seats (one of the classes has 34 seats, but I’m not certain it’ll be in ’16). The GOP has 45 seats come Jan. We need 6 to kick Harry to the curb, and 15+ for filibuster-proof majority.

If we start planning now, start vetting conservative candidates now, we can be in the majority.

If the well-known substance makes forceful contact with the oscillating appliance in the next 12 months I bet a lot of Dems may declare their retirements. They don’t want the stench of a failing economy that they won’t be able to blame on Bush anymore to wreck their cred.

      • Vera Hamann

I hate to spoil your hope, but there will be no more presidential elections, or they will be conducted llike last one. “It does not matter who vote, but who counts the votes and how.”……to parafarse Stalin. Dictator will pronounce himself president for life ……If you want revolution plan something soner, while his civilian army is still in kindergarten.

    • Sonya A. Willis

I have a feeling the wake up call will happen for most by 2014 if not sooner. The difference between us and the USSR is that the Obots have been used to the American way of life and don’t know anything else. When that disappears and they really begin to suffer, they’ll wake up.

It will be a cold hard smack in their faces when they see that Obama doesn’t give two figs about them and is off golfing again.

      • SpinMeNot

20 years ago, I’d have agreed with you. I think there is a sufficient mass of angry, grossly ignorant people in this country that blame everybody else for the their problems that 2014 may be a two years too long.

They teach the old USSR as the glory days of Russia, in all the finest schools today. Sit in on a lecture at a major university. It was a glorious place by all accounts. I had no idea it was so nice there …

    • arrow2010

The USSR never rebuilt. It’s still a shambles.

just wait till immigrants get into the US because absolutly no papers will be required to enter and the unemployment and population numbers begin to grow. also, money will run out sooner since they will need welfare

Support conservative owned businesses if you know who they are.

Lay off the Obama regime supporters first.

    • FunRunnerGirl

Amen! Costco and Starbuck no longer a customer. I will NOT renew my Costco membership, even though I spend thousands there every year. In addition, I”ll SCOFF at ever going to Starbucks. I’ll go to McDonald’s if I have to for coffee before Starbucks. Both of these moves will save me a lot of money, Costco and Starbucks I’d waste too much anyway. I’m tightening my wallet in the Obama economy.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/45OWFS22NKCSLSRQ4TXSNS7QMU Rod M.

In my area any size coffee sm, md, lg at McDonald’s is .99 plus tax. 1.06 total.

        • Vera Hamann

Make your own cofee people! Buy a thermos and drag it with you. You can make whole pot for a buck! Coffe-maker $20, some filters and do it yourself.

          • Talea Frances Ranker

filters? I didn’t go out and buy a new coffee maker (couldn’t afford it) when mine broke I used a french press for awhile and now I’m using a percolator I bought years ago to keep flowers in for the “vintage” look!

      • JayRon

Just remember, McDonald’s has an Obamacare waiver. I’m going to my local deli for coffee.

        • conservativechick

Why does ANYONE have a WAIVER if it’s so great? It sux, that’s why.

          • my preciousss!!

yeh..why do they have a waiver? but the struggling small businesses do not?

          • Jeff Coil

The wavers were only given for one year, long enough to prevent McDonalds (and other companies) from laying off employees before the election. It was nothing more than a political trick. Now that the election is over, expect NONE of those wavers to be renewed (except maybe for congress and the unions).

          • Shagnasty1

Unless you are a member of Congress or their staff. They have a permanent waiver and they, the Democrat members, are the ones who wrote it. Sweetheart deal, huh.

          • Embedded_Journalist

Actually, not just any member of Congress, only those from the Leadership with staff that were tasked with writing the bill got waivers like Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein. Boehner didn’t and no GOP lawmakers did. Your local Democratic Congressperson probably didn’t either, but some twenty something year old pee-on on the authoring team did and so did his wife and kids, of course they knew how bad it would be so they wrote themselves out.

          • SpinMeNot

see, there ya go boys and girls, it really is just that simple.

            😀

I make my coffee at home. Takeout coffee was relegated to luxury item status about 8 years ago.

        • LeighLeigh

          The waiver ends after 2014.

      • saltnburnem

I think only a small number of Costco employees are union. Just a few years ago >80% were non-union. Most locations are not unionized.

        • http://guyaverage.blogspot.com/ Guy Average

Still a Leftist Organization. Costco financially supports Obama and Leftist candidates as well as Leftist policies. Look it up yourself.

      • http://guyaverage.blogspot.com/ Guy Average

Costco does have a Far Left outlook. I cancelled my membership a few years ago.

    • conservativechick

If you target THEM you are just using their own tactics against them but it won’t matter anyway. We are ALL going to suffer, no matter who you let go. Business is DEAD and so is confidence in a recovery right now. God help us. I, for one, am very sad about losing our family business after 35 years. Seriously, no once should celebrate this sluggish economy, especially just to prove a point? The only point is people are suffering and that will continue now under Obama mandatory regulations and taxes.

      • Grumpa Grumpus

        @conservativechick:
Agreed. This isn’t a celebratory moment.

pahahahhaha! Romney wouldn’t have been able to successfully overturn Obamacare. Read up on the issue. Experts, unequivocally agreed on that. So, dear uninformed, whiny, adult-babies whom also happen to own small businesses, instead of putting a freeze on your hiring, out of bitterness of the Romney loss, why not help our great country by hiring? Why not be creative, innovative and optimistic?

So let me get this straight. You’d be happy to take it in the ass from private insurance companies, where your employees would have it worse? As opposed to footing the bill for Obamacare? Please. Reality check please. Stop letting Fox News get you all riled up, and inform yourselves. America depends on you.

    • Lailah

It’s not business owner’s jobs to “help out our great country by hiring” when that involves destroying their business. We can’t afford to pay for everyone else. Reality check? Try a class in basic economics. Our job is to earn a profit, period, end of discussion. I’m not hiring either.

    • Back 4 More

That all sounds real warm and fuzzy, but where does the extra money come from? For some reason alot of people don’t seem to realize that many buisnesses operate very close to the red. Any extra expense makes them unprofitable. In order to continue being a profitable buisness when you are faced with extra expenses you have to cut costs. You act like buisness owners don’t want their employees to have health care. What you don’t seem to understand is that if a buisness is forced to fold because they can no longer make a profit then the employees of that buisness will become unemployed. TV is not reality, regardless of what Maddow tells you. The people that own these buisnesses have already showed a fair amount of creativity, innovation and optimism. That’s how they became buisness owners in the first place. Don’t blame the victims of this crime for the position in which an unrealistic, over reaching and socialist experiment has put them.

Oh dear, still playing the revenge card? You know it isn’t really that, don’t you?

So -Why don’t YOU “help our great country by hiring? Why not be creative, innovative and optimistic”?Tell me when you get your business off the ground, I’ll be glad to work for you. And you’ll obviously succeed, since you’re such an expert on running a business.

    • Maria Seeger

While you’re sitting there gloating and thinking you’re so much smarter than us conservative peasants, explain to me why it is that a Black Democratic Obama supporter who just happens to be the CEO of the Darden corporation is even thinking of cutting back hours and instituting a hiring freeze at his restaurants as part of a test project in Florida? Or why it is that so many big corporations are laying off and cutting back costs? I would be willing to bet that Starbucks and Ben & Jerry’s are also cutting back hours and instituting hiring freezes. You just won’t hear about it because they’re smart enough not to spread the word.

So if you’re sitting there trying to make the case that this is just whining and revenge, let me remind you that when it comes to the bottom dollar, party loyalty flies straight out the window. After all, even Democrat business owners are smart enough to know that if they want to keep on contributing to the next Democrat candidate in 2016, they’ve got to have enough money left over to contribute after paying for their employees’ health insurance.

And while you’re at it, describe your ideas of what you consider creative and innovative. I bet you don’t even have a small business or personally know any small business owners. It’s easy to spout off when you have no skin in the game.

    • http://twitter.com/jbryanjr JB Ryan Jr.

Thanks for the advice, really helps when people who have no clue what Obamacare is going to costs businesses tells us what to do. I’d rather be able to negotiate with private insurance companies than write a check to the IRS, not a lot of negotiation there.

Watch what happens to health care costs over the next 18 months, then come back and apologize.

    • David Kachel

So you ACTUALLY believe that businesses hire employees in order to “help our great country”!! AMAZING!!!

You don’t know it, obviously, but you are a character straight out of Atlas Shrugged.

I never knew people this stupid existed. (This is a phrase I utter almost daily in recent years.)

      • Vera Hamann

In my socialist home-country companies actually existed just to provide jobs. We did not have unimployed and homeless people more than 1-2%. All industries were nacionalised when communists took over. Union took control of factories and everybody was working. Funny business. People were paid just for showing up at the work place. If company was nonprofitable (mostly were really losing money big time) government were subsidising it forever just to keep people employed). Everybody had nationalised health insurance (you wait for cat-scan year or two) You pay 60% in taxes so elite gov. has money to keep nonprofitable companies alive. I see all of it being implemented here in obamaland. except we did not have 50% of population in parasitical form. So, I can safely presume that oblamer will nacionalise big companies, and all this forclosed real estate to solve unimployment and homelessnes. Next will be to get rid of private property. Kiss your house, If you have more sq footage than government thinks you need, you will get somebody to live with you in your spare rooms. I can go on and on but more I write, more upset I get. So for my sanity I have to stop. Love you all, you patriots….I’m to old for a fight and revolution but you might not be. God speed.

        • redheadgrl

          Vera, where are you from?

          • Vera Hamann

Hi Redheadgtl………..I’m from Croatia. Left before Yougoslavia split up cause I have smelled oncoming war. While president Tito was alive, it was not so bad…but I was to young to understand economy. Schools were indoctrination camps of course, and we were happy and partly free. If you want to know more about life in socialism – I will be happy to share.

          • https://twitter.com/AlessaRosewater Maria

It seems our current schools are indoctrination camps, most likely not as bad as was in your country, of course, but I see it getting there before long if those of us who can don’t stop it.

          • redheadgrl

Vera, I have many friends in Romania who were in their late teens or early twenties when their revolution happened. I spent a month over there this summer while their prime minister was trying to oust their president in defiance of their constitution. My friends fear their new democracy won’t last, and they know there is a lot of corruption in government because of the older generation of communists still involved. They are super-smart, and love capitalism. Unfortunately, it is difficult for them to immigrate to US.

        • https://twitter.com/AlessaRosewater Maria

Sadly you are right. We will fight for the freedom of this country for you, for us, for future generations, and past generations. Whether they like it or not.

    • cupsmom

Hey Collin Seems lots of small business owners are struggling a bit to pay these new taxes and keep the status quo on hiring .. You appear to have all the answers . Im sure these business owners would benefit from what you can offer to them in the way of business advice.. would you mind sharing to help your fellow business owners?

    • http://twitter.com/crazytas1 ricci

collin your partially correct I agree small businesses should all do what they can to try and help the economy…… I would however suggest that anyone that voted for obama be let go as they seem to be expecting the free stuff. I would also ask when talking to prospective employees ask them how they voted, if they voted for obama then they are no way qualified to do a job which will require critical thinking on their part

    • Hiraghm

A need on “America’s” part does not create an obligation on their part.

    • SpinMeNot

Collin, no experts don’t agree on that. Your side does. Not the same thing.

And not only are we, as you put it, “taking it the ass” from the insurance company, we are taking it as much as twice as hard.

Laugh monkey boy, hump that coconut. Don’t talk to me about America depending on “me”. Tell that the widow of Amb. Chris Stephens, and the Ambassor himself, who was he depending on? You sicken me … you ask for everything and give nothing. Bleat away … All I hear from your kind is “Gimme Gimme Gimme”.

-: Everybody say it with Me :-
      Not on my watch Junior.

    • Jeff Coil

Do you actually think that small buisnesses are putting on a hiring freeze out of “bitterness of the Romney loss”? If so, you are truely an idiot of the highest caliber, and know absolutly NOTHING about economics (typical liberal). Buisnesses are in buisness to make money. Period. How can they hire new workers if they dont have the money to pay them? They cannot simply print more money like Obama does. Obama is already insisting on raising their taxes. Thus, the money the could have used to hire another worker must now go to Obama. Why can you liberals not understand that simple concept?

    • Belinda Henry

Colon be realistic . Even the democrats admit its poorly written and needs to be fixed. Meanwhile why would anyone hire more people when it makes the cost of operating more expensive? That just doesn’t make sense. BTW my insurance did not go down as promised it went up.

      • Liberal Hater

I like that you called him Colon… because he’s full of shit!. HAHA

    • alex

No… America threw its lot in with the failed economic policies of Barack Obama. Now we’ll ALL have to suffer the consequences of their foolish decision and ignorance.

    • Penmar

We repealed Prohibition, we can repeal Obamacare.

    • aragona

Businesses are in it for a profit. Government policies dampen profits. Business owners have families they have to provide for. They certainly aren’t working for free. Why don’t you liberals get it? Start your own business and hire as many as you want. Just remember, if you do you didn’t build that.

    • $22639970

Why not put your money where your fat mouth is and hire these people. That way you can show everybody how easy it is to be an Obamasshole. Funny how you communists selectively worship the American business ideals of creativity, innovation, and optimism only when it conveniently allows you ignoramuses to ignore economic reality. There IS no innovative way around crushing regulations or costs and those of you who grew up believing that any problem can be solved like they are in a 42 minute Star Trek TV episode are in for a rude shock. Your masturbatory fantasies about how you want the real world to function isn’t going to alter the economic facts of life, regardless how loudly you throw a puerile temper tantrum. Let America depend on your lazy ass for a change.

    • https://twitter.com/AlessaRosewater Maria

Excuse me, but have you ever owned a business? No. They can’t HIRE employees if they don’t have the money to do so. Do you think money just grows on trees? The taxes Obama is implementing mean LESS money to pay people, thus being unable to bring on new hires which is expensive, by the way. And, no, employees would not have it worse with private insurance, thank you. Obamacare is expensive as hell and has little to gain from it.

Only an “adult” baby doesn’t know you can’t hire people without the money to do so. Why don’t you graduate high school (if you can) and then come back when you have a little experience in life.

    • Liberal Hater

And how the fuck do you hire without money you stupid fuck? Holy fuck you are stupid.

  • Back 4 More

This is exactly what the super rich are hoping for. They don’t want people to own their own buisness, they want people to work for them or for the government. We’ve been headed in this direction for a long time now. My state is about to pass a law that requires housing contractors to pay up to 30 thousand dollars to take a home building courses. Many of these contractors have been building houses for longer than I’ve been alive and are barely hanging on already. Construction workers are already losing jobs to immigrant labor that don’t pay taxes, now the contractors that actually hire American workers are about to be put out of buisness so companies like DR Horton and other corporations can control the entire market. Once they get rid of the competition they can charge a higher rate for their inferior product, while simultaniously getting huge tax breaks from the government for minority hiring. Small buisnesses are being systematically weeded out.

    • Maria Seeger

Is your argument based on the assumption that the super rich are all Republicans like Mitt Romney? Actually, I don’t think the super rich care all that much about people owning small businesses. It really doesn’t have any impact at all because, after all, they need to spend their money somewhere, don’t they? Really that part of your argument makes no sense.
As for that law you are talking about…who’s pushing that: Republicans or Democrats? My money says Democrats because a) they love big government and b) kickbacks for their big-money supporters who voted for them.
So, if you’re trying to pin all this on Republicans, I’m afraid you’re not making your case very well.

      • Back 4 More

I never said a thing about blaming this on a particular party. Mitt Romney (with a net worth of around 230 million) isn’t what is considered “elite” in this country. He has alot of money compared to the average American but there are entertainers that have more than him. I’m talking about the multi-billionaires that shape our government and own our country’s politicians. I actually thought I made my case fairly well, you just mistakingly thought I was making an indictment against republicans so your party loyalty compelled you to throw blame the other way. I generally vote republican and have fairly conservative views but, I’ve got news for you, not everything republicans do is for the good of the average American, and not everything democrats do is evil. We have many, many politicians that have switched from one party to the other, not for the good of the country, but because that’s the only way they could get elected. You, like so many people in America, are so blinded by party loyalty that you lash out against anything you perceive as a slight to your “team” and make apologies for anything that they do wrong. That attitude is why we continue to be tied to a sham of a democratic process in the form of our 2 party system. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of billionaires in this country identify themselves as liberal democrats, not republicans. Sorry for the rant, I think cabin fever is getting the better of me.

    • SpinMeNot

You are referring to what I call the “Nefarious Power Mongers” — they use the elite, willfully ignorant liberal-progressive and educators to teach the useful idiots that the state is everything and that to be a worker, dedicating their lives and labor to the state and those that control it is a noble thing. Its all wrapped up in pleasantries like “common good” and “fair share” and “equality” and “income disparity” and …

Yes, its all plausible … too damn probable actually. First blue helmet I see at the end of my dirt road is going to have a large hole in it, then the next and then the next … till I’m out of blood or bullets, whatever comes first.

Your health insurance is your responsibility, not mine. Should I pay for your car too? After all, you need transportation too, right?

    • Shagnasty1

Janis Joplin sang a song titled “Mercedes Benz”. First stanza was she wanted the Lord to buy her a Mercedes Benz, Second was a color TV. Third stanza was a night on the town. I know it was just a song sung by a drug crazed hippie from the 60s but that is how too many people think these days except they want the government to buy it for them not caring where the government gets the money to pay for it all. If you must pay taxes then you must be rich and I think after Jan 1 there are going to be a whole lot more rich folks.

    • LordElrond09

I love your point but you are marvellously optimistic expecting lefties to understand the concept of ‘responsibility’

    • Richie

If the country provided health insurance like Canada did .People wouldn’t have to worry about Obamacare. But having healthcare is a must. I’m a small business owner and I have 11 employees in which I pay half of their insurance. Yes it takes money out my pocket but if you treat your employees like family and not just an employee you won’t mind the pay cut.

  • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

    Shrug, Atlas, shrug!

Actually that’s neither fair or accurate. The Atlas dropouts did so specifically as an object lesson. These businesses we’re talking about here are just facing reality and trying to keep going.

    • SpinMeNot

Well, when it hits the fan .. here along the Texas/Oklahoma border … we call that a target rich environment.

Let’s get this show on the road …

  • TCarrington

I’m writing this under a nom de plume. At 3 AM the morning of Nov 7 I wrote my “plan.” I assessed my current situation. The spouse and I, both former business executives, are now self-employed businesspersons and file taxes jointly. We already pay combined 52% annually–have pretty much done so for past 20+ years–in income (fed + AMT, state, local, not including local property and sales taxes but including the 13.8% payroll taxes). Alas, with Obamacare and new taxes on “thousandaires” that will creep up to 63 percent. We’re quite generous with charities, always have been, giving 10% and often more annually, mostly to help organizations in the inner cities with which we volunteer time as well (“think” Mother Teresa’s nuns and social agencies).

Still, we also have to live. When you work 12 hour days 7 days a week, not including 20 hrs a week volunteering, and all you get is demonized for it, sooner or later you just say “screw it.” We’re “Going Galt.” While we don’t agree with Ayn Rand “objectivism”–we absolutely do believe it’s important to help others–we also believe the social divide is so great and there are too many takers anymore, and too few producers, aka as “tax slaves.” By our hard work and sacrifice, we’ve become the enablers to our own destroyers–to borrow a line from Atlas Shrugged. The democratic party has fostered this divide; heck their platform was pretty much written based upon the 7 Deadly Sins, including envy, pride, greed, lust, and sloth,

So we’re calling it quits. We’ll still work–my spouse is a bestselling novelist–but we’ll postpone taking income, spread it out and thus curtail our “taxable” output, push more to unearned investment income (what the Buffetts and Google boys–Sergey et al– of the world do) and into passive earnings like real estate and trusts. We won’t spend and won’t invest in our businesses other than our time. My spouse won’t hire another assistant and I won’t hire more folks for my consulting businesses. The new start up business with which I’m invested will go forward, but I will start it up in a lower tax country and hire folks there. This is what the 50%–the takers– voted for. Elections do indeed have consequences.

    • David Kachel

Got any leftist employees? Don’t forget to fire them. If you can’t do without help, don’t hire employees who think you are working for them.

      • ryan

you are exactly what is wrong with this country. americans have become such sore losers and when they don’t get what they want, they take their ball and go home so no one else can play with it.
If you choose not to work with your fellow country-people, then you will be the one to blame when the economy sinks.
GREEDY. ALL OF YOU, PURE GREED

        • Megara7

And you don’t think it’s greedy on your part to expect people to work their butts off to support you? YOu should get something for nothing? Talk about greed….

        • ladyxx

It is their business. Why bust your ass 12 hours a day to pay an inept government over 50% in taxes. Damn right. take your ball and go home. Greedy?? Seriously?? What about all the welfare crowd. They are the ones that are greedy.

they sure are, they want YOUR money for doing NOTHING, seems like that could be described as theft through legislation

          • Liberal Hater

“I got my Obamaphone! Romney suck! I got my Obamaphone!”…. yeah, that wasn’t greedy one bit.

        • http://www.facebook.com/dean.smith.52831 Dean Smith

Seems to me Ryan, the bread winners are getting tired of having no bread at the end of the day. Try “you don’t work, you don’t eat” for a while.

        • writer59

I guess it depends on what your definition of greedy is, Ryan. You think it’s greedy to want to keep what you have worked hard for and earned while I think it’s greedy to want a bigger share of something you did nothing to earn, that someone else worked for, just because you feel you are entitled to it by simply existing. If you want a ball to play with, try getting an education, taking some risks, working hard and get your own damn ball instead of expecting others to hand their ball over to you.

I have to laugh at people like you who were warned repeatedly that this would happen if Obama was re-elected. You were warned by business owners and CEO’s, including ones who supported Obama in 2008. But none of you would listen because you were too determined that “your team” had to win. Enjoy the spoils of your victory–higher unemployment, less people covered by health insurance, higher premiums for those who are covered, staggering debt, and a nation irrevocably divided by class, race, gender, and anything else Obama could use to stoke anger and envy to win votes. Was it worth it?

          • GwenB

            Excellent post, writer59!!

May all who voted for Obama bin Loser get all they so richly deserve.

Once he’s 28 his big boy hair will all grow in and he’ll be sure to not be greedy! He promises! Now give him a gold star.

Some of you Owners have no faith. I have 2 retail clothing store in NYC. And yes the Obamacare is a major adjustment. If you care for your employees you won’t mind adjusting for their benefits. Also, I applied and received an Grant from the gov’t to help improve my business. Instead of running away and crying stand strong and fight through it. I didn’t vote for Obama but I do believe in Providing healthcare for the American people. Spoken like a “True” Liberal. Americans haven’t become sore losers, liberals like you, have become” LAZY” and no longer want to take care of yourselves and your responsibilities. You want the government to do it for you. The entitlements have got to STOP. The “HARRY REID” spending has got to stop. This country has “NO MONEY”. There is a point in time when people need to wake up and use some common sense. I’m not over reacting here either.

Here’s a *NEWS FLASH* for you…Not every Republican/Conservative is “Rich”..but we do have common sense. My husband and I don’t have a lot of money. We used to live within our means as god says to, but now we just try to make ends meet. My husband is trying to hold on to his job and we’re REALLY trying to hold on to our home. So, to assume all republicans are “RICH” and “GREEDY” just shows your true IGNORANCE. It’s not us to blame when the economy sinks, it’s your fearless leader OBAMA and the ones who voted for this “CRAP”.

        • Liberal Hater

OK, listen closely fuckface: Elections have consequences. It’s not a matter of the other guy won. It’s the matter that the other guy’s POLICIES have caused all this…. Greed is demanding wealth that you did not earn. I’m seeing stuff like this all over the internet–the makers are not going to making as much as they used to, and I’m not going to be buying as much as I used to. Elections have consequences. If the government puts policies into place that make business’s have a more difficult time surviving, blame your socialist president, not the business that want to succeed and want to hire and expand but can’t.

This quote from The Matrix resonates now – Agent Smith “Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.

Quote of Nassim Taleb – Author of “Black Swan”, and overall genius – from the book, “The Bed of Procrustes” – “The characteristic flaw of the loser is to bemoan, in general terms, mankind’s flaws, biases, contradictions, and irrationality — without exploiting them for fun and profit”.

Let’s get busy betting against the market – And let not “share the sacrifice”

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZR4D5E2WTOI4MSKK7AJS6EG3OA Everybodys All American

Business owners already share the sacrifice. They don’t go home at 5pm. If starting a business is so easy then step up an start a business ntil then you have no clue.

      • Defender66

You missed the point that is made. I’m a conservative, and I run a business. The quote means – don’t get mad, get even. If you can profit on a declining market, by hedging against the economy, or America, while the idiots who reelected Obama remain unemployed, then do it, and they’ll suffer their self-imposed misery. And by not sharing sacrifice – means I’m looking out for my interests first, and the Obambots can suffer miserably.

    • SpinMeNot

Did you actually manage to make it through that diatribe? I admire your, .. , .. whatever the hell got you through it. I have this thing about destroying a book, so there it sits on my shelf, reminding me that PT Barnum was indeed correct, “A sucker is born every minute”.

Last book I read that was that bad was “Philip Dru, Administrator.” It was Woodrow Wilson’s favorite book and I was scratching a mental itch with regard to learning a bit about our erstwhile first liberal progressive President (Wilson was, for those that don’t know.) Its porn budding liberal progressive fascists everywhere.

Personally, both of those books should be required reading in high school — the weak minded ones will proclaim they are magnificent works, and we can cull them out.

      • Defender66

Wha?? Taleb is libertarian. You didn’t read any of his books. He’s against centralized government and all the ideas of a centralized command economy.

        • SpinMeNot

Listen up chicken dick .. you just stepped on a land mine. I’ve tried to read The Black Swan, I am holding it in my hands now. It is complete crap. The guy has an ego the larger that Obama’s. He’s not all that original. Oh, yes, we don’t know what we don’t know, and he goes on at length about it. He’s completely in love with himself. I don’t take that long to get to a point. He goes on for pages about nothing, rambling, stroking his own ego. I was told it was a good read, I was sorely disappointed.

I don’t care what his political affiliations are and if you simply think that because he is or is not (I have no way of knowing) a libertarian, his work has value, well — you are just shit-brained stupid as liberal-progressive puke that can’t think for himself either. If there is something in the pages of this yawn, then tell me where it is.

Go ahead ass hat, give me chapter/page/paragraph and I’ll give you the text. I have the second edition.

Next time you call a man a liar, remember to do it online. You would not be on your feet had you done this to my face.

Why, because I take offense at being called a liar? No, that is character, something you are sorely lacking.
You falsely accuse a man of lying and think I have a problem. If so, well you need to get right with God little man, because that last one is going to come up when you stand before Him.

For the record the liar here is you. You’ll probably pull some liberal-puke equivocation of your ass. Well, I said you hadn’t read it, and since you never finished, you haven’t actually read it.

I read the first twenty five pages of The Black Swan and couldn’t take any more. It starts right off in Chapter 1, Page 1 – an intro text, a short paragraph and a meandering mash of way too much information. He says “Christians of all varieties:” then feels the need to impress the simple minded with all the various flavors of Christianity he can list, just to prove he has a command of facts completely irrelevent to his point.

And you are a disrepectful little putz, there isn’t any help for that.

          • Defender66

You are a sick person, and the last one to realize it. Seek help.

          • SpinMeNot

Really, you mean me no hate .. you publicly call me a liar. What the hell is that a “hi nice to meet you handshake” … I make a comment on a book that I found awful and you tell me I haven’t read it. If my comment on the book offended you in some way, I’m a big enough person to say ok, sorry. my bad. Wasn’t my intent.

So, over to you very odd little man.

          • Defender66

I stand by what I say. It’s not a debate. Think what you wish. I’ll pray for you.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Would you prefer for these businesses to close and leave every one of their employees jobless?

    • sb36695

It is not celebration. It is reality. Some of us have to live in it.

      • gn

Just saying, in my reality, I see some wealthy ideologues who spent more on donations to Governor Romney than they are willing to spend to offer their employees healthcare. If yall want to celebrate these people laying off their workers, by all means, but in my opinion this is not right. I never saw the left doing anything like this when Bush had a second term.

        • $22639970

“I never saw the left doing anything like this when Bush had a second term.”

That’s because businesses weren’t going to get screwed in the ass under Bush and because the left doesn’t employ people, they employ class envy, sloth, and destruction.

          • gn

This is untrue. Under President Obama, the stock market has nearly doubled since the day of his inauguration, and businesses have enjoyed record profits as well. It’s also untrue to assume that all or most business owners and/or decision-makers at large companies are Republican. It is my sincere opinion that anyone crowing over Americans losing their jobs has themselves totally lost perspective. Goodnight.

          • $22639970

Your reply is irrelevant to my comment. I didn’t comment on the ideological makeup of businesses or their owners. In fact, your retort that “It’s also untrue to assume that all or most business owners and/or decision-makers at large companies are Republican” proves my point. As I remarked, the reason that neither the left wing nor businesses responded to Bush’s re-election the way businesses have today is that businesses know, because Obamarx has told them, that they are going to get slaughtered with huge taxes and they are doing what’s necessary to survive the new socialist assault on their operations. Both communists and businesses in 2004 knew that no such attack was coming from the Bush administration.

            Nice try, though.

          • https://twitter.com/AlessaRosewater Maria

Businesses just cannot afford to hire people, face it. Operating costs are GOING UP, taxes are going up, therefore employees will be PAID LESS. Hours will be cut, new people cannot be hired until someone leaves. It’s all logic, try having some. You would have to be a complete idiot to think new people can be brought on when there’s hardly any money left in the pot!

You definitely do not own a business or you wouldn’t have put such an asinine post up.

        • sb36695

Just saying, it is not a celebration. Maybe they gave to Romney hoping that they wouldn’t have to lay off. Are you a business owner? I am.

As per the Constitution all tax legislation must begin in the House of Representatives, not the Senate. Article 1, Section 7. Obamacare began in the Senate. I know this is very long. I don’t know how to make shorter and keep the coherence intact.

I’ve broken it into 4 parts to prevent spam filter headaches.

Here’s what happened at my Grandson’s Bakery.

It is as accurate I can make it, piecing together and condensing information.

    A little necessary background:
“Year’s Supply” refers to the LDS Church’s admonition “to store-up a year’s supply of every needful thing, both necessities and luxuries. Include money sufficient to meet a year’s needs and more to cover unforeseen vicissitudes. If you can store it include a year’s worth of fuel to heat your home and run your equipment.”

In 1998 the Church advised, for those able, to increase that supply to 5 years or more.

The Grandson mentioned here was overindulged as a child, grew up as a snotty know-it-all (his assessment and accurate), and fell away for a while from the Church shortly after returning from his mission. He found himself a homeless alcoholic.

He returned to us, to the Church & reformed. He feels strongly drawn to certain Church policies, particularly FHE, Home Teaching and Preparedness.

I think that his early difficulties drove the situation I’m relating.

Here’s what happened, including Black Tuesday.

  • Grumpa Grumpus

It is a sad thing, heartbreaking really, that all these places have to cut hours, cut workers, and even close their doors.

I have over 20 Children from three marriages, most in their forties or older. A little less than half are self-employed, and many of those have employees of their own.

Many are like my Grandson who purchased the Bakery from his father and I, and sadly, will have to close it.

That’s because he held out raising prices during the entirety of The Obamanation’s gleeful 1st term attacks on energy and food.

He didn’t want to raise prices because the Bakery’s in a depressed neighborhood. There’s a sizable minority population, lower-middle class economically. His presence there provides many mutual benefits and his “hire pool” is almost exclusively from the neighborhood.

He’s been training local young people in The Art of Baking, the same as his father trained him & I his father.

He lived on his “year’s supply” (in his case six years), even using those — his family’s personal “year’s supply” cash reserves – after the business’s 3 year cash reserve ran out— to pay employees and other overhead.

  • Grumpa Grumpus

    3 of 4
He knew their situations and vowed he wouldn’t fire anyone, he’d close before that.

He made sure all his employees knew the situation, too.

He was confident that his countrymen would come to their senses.

He’d already run the books on Monday and knew to the penny his obligations.

On Wednesday a bunch of his employees came in elated, in Dingleberry™ shirts. Calling them into his little office, he asked them “why?” He’d taken great pains to explain to everyone what a knife’s edge the Bakery was on.

How Obama’s policies, directly through regulation and StinkyCare™ along with indirectly through energy and food shortage pricing and inflation were destroying the Bakery’s ability to survive.

He had forgone paychecks to pay them. He’s given them food from his own year’s supply, he’d given them as much of the Bakery’s unsold product at day’s end as they would take.

The answers he received were profanity laced and incomprehensible. Black employees called him an Oreo (his Mom’s the black DiL I’ve written about), a racist, and worse. A few of the whites who he queried told him he must be incompetent and mismanaging the business!

  • Grumpa Grumpus

    4 of 4
These people didn’t care. They thought by his generosity, even though at his own expense (ie, hardship) he was “rubbing their nose” in his wealth. They didn’t believe he was effectively destitute!

That anyone would do what he did— putting his employees before himself— was beyond what they could imagine.

“Nobody would do that!” was the gist of their response when asked. They wanted to “show him and his greedy a$$”!

Well. They did! They certainly did.

He announced the shuttering on Thursday morning. The ObamaShirters chimed about “revenge”— even though he basically opened his books to his employees before the election.

Don’t feel bad for him, though. The Family will see he & his have what they need. He’s one of us, after all. A family member.

Feel bad for the majority of his friends/employees who through no fault of their own are now without.

    A curious side note:
He extolled the virtues of the LDS “Year’s Supply” program, his wife taught the Food Home Preservation Program.

They even went to the extent of helping his employees each create their own home storage program— if he could possibly cajole them into it, (he was very enthusiastic about it *grin* ).

Not to make them Mormons, but to help free them from worry.

The people who refused to “be bothered” with a “year’s supply” and who rebuffed his efforts were also worried that efforts to encourage stocking-up for a rainy day were “stealth Mormon Conversion Efforts”.

It turned out they were the ones who where “Proud Obama Voters”. To a man.

I wonder if there’s a lesson in that.

I would hazard to say you don’t have enough employees for the Obamacare mandate. That being the case, your little schpiel has no bearing on the topic of conversation here. People are cutting employees and doing hiring freezes because they have over 25 employees. Obamacare will cost far more than other group insurances did. The insurance company would pay half and the employer would match it. It won’t be so with Obamacare. If an employee waives it, then the fines can be up to $1,000 per employee. Also, taxes are going up for businesses. When you reach 25 employees or more, then you may speak about these businesses that have to do hiring freezes. Until then, you don’t know what you’re talking about, and it’s best not to chime in.

“Oops, I did it again”? That is sooo early 2000s by the way, grandpa.

It’s sad, but so many companies do have to have hiring freezes or they will have to sell/disband their companies. It has nothing to do with “election pride”, it has to do with MONEY. Quit bitching Libtards, you wanted him, now deal with it.

  • Ms Angel

This is exactly what Obama & Co. WANT to happen, people.

    Why?

    Think this through.

    1. Businesses will find ways to get out of paying for health insurance thanks to Obamacare’s burdensome rules and expenses.

    2. That means more and more people will need to go on government-funded Medicaid.

    3. As more and more people go on Medicaid, private insurance companies will go out of business because they won’t have anyone to insure.

    4. When all the private health insurance companies are gone, and everyone is on Medicaid, that means the liberals will have stealthily reached their goal of a single-payer healthcare system.

This is exactly how Obamacare was planned to work from Day One.

  • Discontentwliars

This is the result that Obama wants. His policies have pushed small business to this point in order to solidify the grip of the Nanny State. They are printing money to use in Quantitative Easing and that is gaining velocity as it circulates thus purposely fueling inflation. The goal of a dependent population is what Obama has in mind and this situation with hiring helps meet that goal, and the small businesses are powerless to change it as they try simply to survive.

I live west of Minneapolis Minnesota and a small business owner. Over the last 13 years, I have hired 100+ young adults as part timers to help with my inventory count, movement of product, phone answering and misc tasks. I get calls and emails all the time from 17-30 year olds looking for ANYTHING, even one hour (cash). I have let go my only three employees who work part time for me the Wednesday after the election. I sat down with them and watched them cry. I told them God’s honest truth. I can no longer afford to hire anyone now that Obama is re-elected. Not only that, Minnesota now has a full Democrat controlled house, senate and governor. Taxes will go up. I cannot afford my overhead, higher business and personal taxes, employees and pay myself. Heck, I even care for my elderly disabled mother. My business will fail if I don’t cut all expenses. Most of these youth are Obama zombies. I’ve tried to casually talk about conservatism. I just got out of a meeting with the vice president of the company I work for and it doesn’t look good. We’re a small manufacturing company in California (of all places) and we’re looking at laying off a portion of our workforce. Sales are dropping significantly and we also talked about how costs imposed by the government are going up. We have no choice but to lower our overhead if we want to keep our doors open. It’s funny, a few months ago we were flush with cash and we even talked about putting in a full gym for the employees: treadmills, stationary bikes, weights, etc. now we are scaling back Christmas bonuses and our Christmas party where we have raffles for some pretty significant gifts like televisions, laptops, and ipads. This is our reality now. People wanted Obama and they got him regardless of his record on the economy and the private sector. People voted for decline and that’s what they’re getting, and when companies are forced to respond somehow they’re unpatriotic. I think the GOP let us down most of all, they are terrible at getting their message, our message, out to the American people. The common person doesn’t realize how radical our President and its administration truly is. Also we had our guys not showing up to vote, we were down 3 million, because they felt like we had an unreliable ally in Romney, well we have a reliable opponent with Obama. This was the fight we HAD to win, and we didn’t. We’re always going to be behind the 8 ball now. Good game.
