PolitiFact: Hey, now that the election’s over, let’s see if Obama kept ’08 campaign promises

Today? Two days after the election PolitiFact is checking to see if President Obama kept his 2008 campaign promises?

PolitiFact? No. PolitiFlack.

Update:

Twitter users react to the delayed fact-checking by Obama’s Palace Guard:

  • Jeremy Daniels

    Well….. how’d he do??

  • Peyton

This is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way we can get a fair election with a biased media.

    • Lyle E Long

freedom of the press was inscribed in the bill of rights to protect the people from government corruption. without a free responsible unbiased media, democracy can not and will not survive. We must hold the press accountable for their failure or we are doomed.

    • Shawn Smith

Congratulations, you’ve elevated yourself from troll to spammer. By the way, is shitting on the first amendment on that list? Is an extra-judicial kill list including American citizens on that list? Is the biggest tax increase on the middle class in history on that list?

      • Streetiebird

lol cute :) But the biggest tax increase on the middle class isn’t on there because the list isn’t about Reagan.

        • Shawn Smith

No, that’s Obamacare. It’s not a penalty now, you see. In order to get past the Supreme Court, it’s a tax. And it’s the biggest tax increase on the middle class in history.

Care to defend the other items? Care to defend his overt racism? Obama is a racist, you know.

          • Streetiebird

hahaha you’re funny :) Oh, you’re serious? Cite the racism please if you can.

          • Shawn Smith

He spent 20 years in Jeremiah Wright’s racist church. The pastor who officiated at his inauguration recently said (at a democratic get out the vote) that all white people are going to hell. His attorney general refused to prosecute the Black Panthers for an open-and-shut case of voter intimidation.

Heck, if you’re willing to spend a few minutes, listen to his own words: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__IpYgvAPhI

If you disagree, that’s fine, but provide evidence to support your claim, not just “ha ha that’s cute.” By the way, the Obamacare tax increase. I notice you haven’t defended that.

          • Streetiebird

hahaha, that’s cute :) And I love Obamacare! I think it’s a great step forward, even though Republicans blocked the popular public option. Over time it will increase the entire country’s health status. And there is a lot of evidence that it will also LOWER healthcare premiums while simultaneously extending the life of Medicare and reducing the deficit.

          • Shawn Smith

Evidence, you useless twit. Do you know what it is? Do you know how to construct an argument?

          • Streetiebird

LOL yeah I do :) Thanks for the kind words!

The fees and taxes begin in January. Funny how he planned that for after the election isn’t it?

          • Streetiebird

Yeah, weird that they’d make new fees and taxes start at the beginning of the fiscal year. Dastardly tricks I say!

          • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Uh… the fiscal year begins in October. For other businesses, most times, the fiscal year begins in June.

Here’s a link to help you out. You lost some credibility though. Not that you had much to begin with. http://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/fiscal_year.htm

          • Streetiebird

Well aren’t you precious :) I should have said tax year (although most businesses use a fiscal year that is the same as the calendar year). But the senate uses a different fiscal year, so you’re only two-thirds wrong.

          • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

You won’t LOVE it when you can’t actually get health CARE. No doctor will take your worthless gov’t piece of paper insurance! Isn’t it great? Health insurance that does not provide HEALTH CARE! Take a number and wait four years just for a primary care doctor!

          • Streetiebird

Well the Republicans blocked it, so you don’t have to worry hon.

          • Shawn Smith

I notice whenever I charge Obama with racism, none of his supporters has managed to produce any actual evidence to show otherwise. They just either laugh me off, say, “play nice” or yell, “FOX NEWS!!! EVIL FOX NEWS!!!”

          • Streetiebird

Whenever I mention that George Bush used to sacrifice Jewish children on the front lawn of the White House none of his supporters have managed to produce any evidence to show otherwise. They just laugh me off and say “YOU CAN’T PROVE A NEGATIVE!!!!!!”

          • Shawn Smith

I’ve offered you real, documented instances, including Obama’s own words, and you’ve offered . . . nothing.

          • Streetiebird

Are you for real???? Do you not understand you can’t prove a negative? Here’s some evidence, he’s half white. He has lots of white family members. He hasn’t acted racist. He hasn’t said racist things. Now your turn to prove George Bush didn’t sacrifice Jewish children on the lawn of the White House, you’ve offered…. nothing.

          • Shawn Smith

I gave you a video which directly quotes his racist words from his published memoir. Did you listen to it or just go “ha ha cute”?

I’ve seen Bill Whittle before, he’s a nincompoop with a serous axe to grind. I can’t take him seriously. Good try though, I appreciate you trying to paint Obama as a racist, it’s probably good therapy for you after the sound whooping he delivered to Romney.

          • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

I can’t take Obama seriously, but I believe him when he says he hates white people.

You are the epitome of a Liberal. Sadly, your dream world has been tried over and over again, and it ends in blood and death every time. Obama has contributed massively to the animus between races in the USA, for political gain. He cares not that this deliberate provocation can only end in bloody strife, as long as the blood shed is not his own, and the power gained by fanning the flames is. You are either a fool or a cynic expecting to benefit too. For your sake I hope you are merely a fool.

    • Michelle

Took only a brief glance at your list – already spotted inaccuracies, and it’s a mighty huge one. You wrote, “Direct military leaders to end war in Iraq” Yeah, the end was already in place when he took office – it’s called the US Iraqi Status of Forces Agreement that designated 12/31/11 as the end of the war. It was signed by Bush before Obama took office. You might recall when Bush had the shoe thrown at him at an Iraqi press conference? That was when he announced the agreement and the end of the war as being 12/31/11. Sorry, Barry doesn’t get credit for that. In fact, it should be under his broken promise list because his actual promise was, “I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank.” And yet, it wasn’t the first thing he did..or the second…or the third. All he did was allow it to go on another three years, following the timeline/end date established by Bush and in fact, tried to extend the withdrawal into 2012, but Iraq said no. So the end of the Iraq war was already set before Obama took office, he didn’t end it…he followed the agreement Bush made with the Iraqis. Solid fact, look it up.

You also credit him with, “Begin removing combat brigades from Iraq” Mmmm yeah, again – please refer to the US Iraqi Status of Forces Agreement signed by Bush – it established a partial troops drawdown by mid-2009 (again, already on the schedule before Obama took office, it’s nothing he did, he follows Bush’s agreement) and in fact, he missed the drawndown deadline by two months.

you also give him credit for, “No permanent bases in Iraq” At this point you should know what I’m going to suggest – read the US Iraqi Status of Forces Agreement. And again, Bush’s doing – not Obama’s. In a nutshell – there is nothing Obama did, no action he took, no talks, no negotiations he conducted that had anything to do with ending the war in Iraq – it was all in place BEFORE he took office. Just because he was the guy in the White House when the dates Bush and Iraq established rolled around, doesn’t mean he gets credit for ending the war. In fact, he tried to extend it. Please get educated.

A glance over the rest of your list provided comedy – you’re kinda out-of-touch with reality. “Expand Pell grants for low-income students” and yet, more than a few of my friends reported losing Pell grants for the college kids and were told “funds not available” Some are low-income, some are barely middle-income – Pell grants denied. You lie.

      • Streetiebird

LOL okay, you’re the expert :) All credit and blame goes to Bush I guess…

        • Michelle

Stellar comeback when presented with facts and truth. I expected nothing more.

          • Streetiebird

Stellar takedown of my list that you admit you “only took a brief glance at”.

          • Michelle

Took a brief glance because I spotted the BS immediately, and presented two examples of your BS. So, knowing from a brief glance it contained BS, saw no need to look at each item. But, you may have the last word. Something tells me you’re a person who isn’t happy unless you have the last word (even when on the losing end of a conversation) and I want you to be happy. So, here you come…have the last word, I don’t need it, my point was already made. Take care.

Yeah, that fiscal cliff is a bitch! Oh right, you’re choosing to blame Obama, LOL

Second verse – same as the first. And just as tired.

          • Streetiebird

Don’t pout. The stock market went down a bit, but it’s twice what it was under bush.

          • SwTk

Now it’s really tired. Go ahead and get your last word in will ya? I always find it so exciting to watch Obamazombies, still fighting to prove that their guy should have won – even after he has won. It is very telling. Also, I made a killing in the stock market under Bush – it is still up to you and your own intelligence to be able to win in a bear market. Oh that’s right, your types like these things handed to you.
            Nevermind.

          • Streetiebird

            Much better than under Bush!!!!!!!!!!

It kills him to not have the last word. Hows the Stock Market doing by the way?

    • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

“End the use of torture”, eh? I don’t think the terrorists in Benghazi got that promise. They tortured our ambassador, don’ y’ know.

      • Streetiebird

Actually they did not! You’re choosing to believe the rightwing media on this one. They tortured him with smoke inhalation? I bet you think he was raped too! HA!

And here are some of the broken promises:

Repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes
Sign the Employee Free Choice Act, making it easier for workers to unionize
Forbid companies in bankruptcy from giving executives bonuses
Work with Russia to move nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert
Close Bush’s Guantanamo Bay Detention Center
Allow five days of public comment before signing bills
Support repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
Increase the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour
Give annual “State of the World” address
Create cap and trade system with interim goals to reduce global warming
Require new federal fleet purchases to be half plug-in hybrids or electric vehicles
No family making less than $250,000 will see “any form of tax increase.”
Create a public option health plan for a new National Health Insurance Exchange.
Bring Democrats and Republicans together to pass an agenda

You are missing about a hundred or so.

      Transparency
      Whistleblower prosecution
      Lobbyists
      etc et al

I am a small voice! It is the voice of most Americans. We are not for blotted government. We want a government for the people by the people because we have a government that has trampled on our rights. How do we take back America?

This is certainly a time when a group like Anonymous should wipe out their website…
