Photo: Voters in Philadelphia forced to vote next to giant Obama mural; Update: Not fully covered despite court order

Wow. As Twitchy reported, voter intimidation is rife in Philadelphia. GOP inspectors were kicked out; A court has since reinstated them. And thank goodness, because look what is happening in Ward 35. Illegal electioneering much?

Why hasn’t it been covered yet?

Twitchy will monitor and update with any further developments.

Update:

An election judge ordered that the mural must be covered.

But the Pennsylvania GOP is heading back to court because the mural was not covered in its entirety.

The president’s face is sort of covered, but the Obama logo is not.

But if the GOP did this with a Romney mural…wait, they wouldn’t. They obey the laws, as a general rule.

    • ERMERGERD

They also don’t idolize men. This is another example of the disturbing Obama cult.

      • TundraThunder

I do have to admit that I idolize the Romneys for the way they show love for each other and their entire family.

        • http://www.facebook.com/kenna.neel Kenna Neel

Respect and admire them, yes. Idolize? Seriously? Uh…nope.

        • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

I think the Romneys’ would take you to task for admitting you idolize them. They are a very humble couple, it seems, and would be embarrassed by your behavior.

          • TundraThunder

Excuse me. I meant I had admiration for them.

    • shawn

lol…like when Donald Rumsfeld confessed he did know where that magically non-tracked 2.3 trillion went.

  • Bea

All that does is serve to remind you of why you are there and what you are there to do. Look at that face one last time before you go in and vote Romney/Ryan with glee.

    • Macranthunter

Yeah, I’m pretty sure this won’t sway any votes. I know it would just solidify my original resolve whatever it was.

This needs to be done by someone who was at the polling place. I’d do it for you, but I’m in Wisconsin. Please report it and let us know what happens (if anything).

  • Midnight Cow

Came here to Ward 35 to vote for Romney……but……but…..hand not working…….can’t control….(eyes glaze over)….must vote Obama. O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma. (Leaves polling place, becomes self-aware, walks into traffic.)

  • JoH113

I’m surprised no one projectile-lost their last three meals all over that mural while voting. Poor Philly, they’re just getting it left and right today, aren’t they? Well, mostly left, but you know what I mean…

    • Colleen Kelly

And the Eagles are just making it worse.

      • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

        Just call it PhilaDetroit.

  • MoxieLouise

Give me a marker…I could change that “h” to a “d” really quick.

  • http://twitter.com/drakeshipway Drake Shipway

This is so minimal compared to what the GOP has been doing all over America with their dirty dirty voter ID laws, strategic cancelations of pre-voting days in places such as Florida creating 6 hour lines.. I could go on forever. Wake up and care about actual news.

    • silenteyedstorm

There are many states, MN, PA, MI, NY, NH, VA, MA, CT that don’t offer early voting at all. Florida, Ohio and other states that offer it have been MORE than accomodating.

    • jayhdavis

You, sir, are a complete dumb ass.

    • Jim Denney

Please do go on forever. We enjoy fiction, and anything to keep a “low information” voter such as yourself away from the polls is a good thing.

    • Jim Wafwot

And how many of these “suppressed” voters stood in line for concert tickets, or a movie premier, or the latest freakin’ iPhone?

And actual news? Maybe the left should Google “Benghazi,” or “Obama’s Katrina”

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003075952072 Jim Martini

Yes, how DARE the GOP request that you show a valid ID to vote! The nerve… Next thing you know, you will have to show one when getting on a plane, renting a car or motel room or applying for food stamps… Idiot.

      • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

I don’t believe you need an ID to get put on the welfare rolls anymore.

    • Bea

Oh please…go on forever. It’s just so entertaining.

    • ember

Did you sell your soul for a free phone to troll over here. Be gone, Dung Beetle.

    • Dee M.

Seriously? Put down the crack pipe, bro!

    • http://www.facebook.com/kenna.neel Kenna Neel

Voter ID Laws insure that you are who you claim to be, and that you are intitled to vote in this country. How is that bad exactly? Exactly who should object to that?Canceling pre-voting days? Do you mean early voting? How many days do you need in order to pick one, get off your a** and go do it? Nobody is “losing” any days. They are within the laws. What they are NOT doing is adding more days, which has to be legislated. How many days do you need to legislate it? They should have thought about that a year ago. How many conservatives does it take to shut down an uneducated, propagada spewing liberal? One. Or can’t you count that far?

    • YeahWeWill

Get a grip dude! You are going delusional!

  • Ms.Bohmont

This would only strengthen my desire to put my mark next to Mitt’s name… Not that I need any additional convincing.

  • marcellucci

Do you think I could get away with saying “Sorry, I thought it was a urinal…”

  • Jim Denney

Hope & Change my ass … the mural should be updated to “Dope & Strange.”

    • Michelle

Hope and Change has morphed into Divide and Conquer. Ugh, I hate that man.

Would reaffirm my decision that my vote for Romney was the right one. Got a question though, will that school paint over “The One’s” mural after he loses? If so, it’s one more job created by Romney that Obama never could.

  • IRAMARINE

@MEAN_MARINE Vote like your stranded in

Looks like a Hugo Chavez polling place but with Obummer

  • Mark Tippets

They were going to vote Obama anyway…….looks like an old poster his hair has not turned grey yet. Just an Idol not a President

  • Russ

Let’s just hope that suburban Philly districts like mine, that are heavily Republican, can cancel out the monkey business in Philly. There was nothing like that mural crap out here. In fact, cars were parked all up and down the street, and all over the lawn of the church where we vote, and it’s a heavily Republican district. I have hope that PA will turn red.

    • Colleen Kelly

I’m in Montco and where I am tends to be on the blue side, but I’ve been seeing way more Romney love this time around. And from what everyone is saying, our outside districts stand a good chance of going red. All the Dems really can rely on is Philly. The firehouse we vote at doesn’t pull stunts like this either, thankfully. Definitely feeling good about PA doing what is right this time around.

      • Russ

I think Bucksco is going to go red. I hope Montco does too.

        • Colleen Kelly

From your lips to God’s ears. And if Sunday night was any indication, you’ll be right.

What idiot allowed this? They need to be outed and humiliated. Then prosecuted.

  • CitizenEgg

A can of paint and 2 rollers and I could take care of that for you in 5 minutes.

  • http://twitter.com/maverick262 Scott Rooney

It felt fan-f***ing-tastic voting for Romney/Ryan right next to that mural this morning. I think the poll people heard my laughing from the booth. I’m one of a select few in ward 35 district 17 in Philly not scared to be a conservative Republican there.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kenna.neel Kenna Neel

I just hope those poor voters can hold back their vomit long enough to cast their Romney/Ryan vote. Disgusting!

Feral Philly is lost. Don’t believe me? Watch ‘Parking Wars’ and read their newspapers.

  • Wag_a_muffin

Just read that a judge in PA ordered it covered. Hurray that we’re on top of a lot of this.

  • AmandaJeff Day

They made me cover my Romney/Ryan shirt today in SE Kentucky.

    • MoxieLouise

And CO tried to throw out a girl for wearing an M.I.T. sweatshirt yesterday; not MITT, the candidate; M.I.T., the school. Duh.

      • YeahWeWill

Good grief. What has freaking happened to the collective intelligence and common sense in this country?

        • TeamMomScooter

Unfortunately, they have gone the way of the dodo bird.

    • AmandaJeff Day

They said it was considered “electioneering” and there were signs saying “no electioneering within 300 ft of polling station.” I parked my truck about 75 ft from the door, with RR stickers on the back. My wife gave me her coat because she was afraid I’d just take my shirt off and vote anyways.

  • orringtonmom (D)

that would be enough to make me vote for romney. my six year old woke up this morning and said, “hey mom! it’s election day!” he said it like it’s christmas. i asked if they had an election at his school he said yes, they already voted. i asked who he voted for… waiting for the brainwashed ‘obama’ response. ‘i voted for mitt romney!’ my boy… kid can’t tie his shoes, but he mock voted for mitt romney.

  • shortstack5

Maybe I’m too stupid, or too naive, but why in the world did it take until mid-morning/early afternoon to address this? Didn’t the poll workers see it while “setting up shop” yesterday? Or way back when this place was picked as a polling location? No one thought to question it? Even if someone wasn’t sure about the legality of it, wouldn’t you think someone would have thought “better safe than sorry” and just covered it? And did I just read that it was only partially-covered, which means the lawyers have to go back in front of a judge for another order? I’m a lawyer and I understand needing to follow procedures, but this is just beyond ridiculous. By time the mural is actually covered, it will be time for the polls to close. I am so disgusted. I know I ought not to be shocked, but I am. Truly bewildered.

    • YeahWeWill

Subliminal if not outright coercion of voters. It is disgusting.

  • PVMan1

That’s repulsive. Needs to be painted over after today anyway.

  • http://atlantarofters.blogspot.com/ The Sanity Inspector

Is that inside a school? A polling place in my general location is also inside a school, whose walls are also decorated with liberal heroes.

  • richard40

Just heard an update on this mural on Fox. After complaints, they partially covered up the Obama picture, but his campaign logo is still visible.

  • Dee M.

Really…someone should photoshop this, using Romney’s face and quote, put it on the internet and watch all hell break loose as the liberals go nuts!

  • TeamMomScooter

The Order signed this morning by Judge John Milton Younge, Jr., states, in pertinent part: “IT IS HEREBY ORDERED That the Judge of Election in the 35th Ward, 18th Division shall cover the mural, attached as Exhibit A, in its entirety for the duration of the election on November 6, 2012.” What part of “in its entirety” do these morons not understand??

I think I might be the only Democrat on this thread, and yes, it
would be unfair if I had to cast my ballot alongside a mural of Mitt
Romney, but I ask that you consider what harsh words you are using
against the man who is currently your president, and will remain so
regardless of tonight’s outcome until January. I am not offended
personally, since there have been no attacks against me, but I am in
disbelief that there isn’t even one shred of courtesy left. I agree with
all of you: this venue was poorly chosen and not enough was done to
level the playing field, but the reason that we can’t see eye to eye
anymore on issues like this is because as a society, we’ve begun
cultivating this mentality that if you’re not totally for something, than therefore you must wholeheartedly support the polar opposite, and that is greatly affecting us. I am just as shocked as the rest of you that this happened, (and I’m sure you had fun voting for Romney right next to it) but please: have some decency.

I’m in Philly right now taking care of my sister. I really don’t think a mural of Obama is going to make people vote for him. I’m feel fairly certain that people have made up their minds before they get to the polling station. It’s still a little wierd that you would be forced to look at a giant picture (with slogan attached) of a candidate in a place that isn’t supposed to allow political signs of any kind. Not sure why the rules only apply to one side.
