It may all come down to the bitter clingers

The bad news: Every recent poll shows President Barack Obama either tied or ahead of GOP rival Mitt Romney in WisconsinNevada and bailout-friendly Ohio and Michigan. We aren’t counting Romney out in any of those states, but there is a real possibility he could lose them all. (Update: A poll released this morning shows Romney ahead by 1 in Michigan.)

The good news: Romney doesn’t need to win any of those four states if he can win Pennsylvania, where his prospects look good indeed. Consider the three most recent polls there:

poll by Franklin & Marshall College, released October 31, has President Obama ahead of Romney among likely voters by 4 points, 49-45, with an absurd D+13 sample. By comparison, turnout was just D+7 in 2008, when Obama-mania was at its peak. The Franklin & Marshall poll shows Romney winning Independents by a whopping 16 points.

Public Policy Polling’s new poll says Obama is leading 52-46, but its sample is D48/R38/I14, or D+10. Ridiculous. The PPP poll shows Obama winning Independents (you know, the “bitter clingers“) by 4 points. It might happen … yeah, and monkeys might fly out of our butts.

Last night, Susquehanna Polling & Research released a much-awaited new poll showing the race a dead heat, 47-47. Keep in mind the tendency of undecided voters to break toward the challenger in races with an incumbent. Susquehanna hasn’t released internals yet, but its last Pennsylvania poll (the one taken three weeks ago) had a reasonable D+6 sample.

Whom do you trust more: PPP or Susquehanna?

Romney heads to Pennsylvania this afternoon for a rally. The bitter clingers will be there to cheer him on:

Up until recently Democrats insisted Pennsylvania was a lock for Obama. They spun Romney’s effort to win the state as a sign of “desperation”:

But now it seems the Dems are starting to get nervous. Very nervous:

Add one more high-profile name to the list of those making surprising, last-minute stops to Pennsylvania just days before Election Day: Former President Bill Clinton.

After Mitt Romney’s campaign said Thursday that the GOP presidential nominee and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, would both stump in the Keystone State this weekend, an Obama campaign official confirmed Friday that the 42nd president would also hit the Pennsylvania trail.

  • RDPortland

Romney has done a tremendous job keeping Obama’s team scrambling to shore up their few remaining strongholds. They were trying to fight an ’08 campaign, but Romney’s team had a bigger battleground in mind.

Maybe not all the dominoes will fall, but enough will. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota…Tuesday is going to be an immense amount of fun.

    • freeinaz

California could do the entire nation a favor and vote Romney and it would be game over.

      • Navy_Patriot

Unfortunately, I don’t see the “beautiful” people taking that leap – just look who those idiots elected Gov. – BROWN! That in itself speaks volumes about those people!

        • David Raineri-Maldonado

Uhh… don’t count the normal residents out- after all, Whitman only lost AFTER Allred’s October Surprise of intimating Whitman used illegals to help her lawncare.

I live in CA. I am not an idiot. And I did NOT vote for Governor Moonbeam. I am not one of ‘those people’. I am one of ‘you people’.

          • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

Much appreciated, of course. Unfortunately there are far too few of your stripe out there.

      • Brenda Hellwig

Thanks for the early morning laugh to jump start my day! California’s reelected Gov Moonbeam that says it all.

      • nc

My lib co-worker said to me last week, “Why do you bother to vote (here in CA) when you know your vote for Romney won’t mean anything?” I told him, “If you feel that way, why should you bother to vote for Obama if he’s a sure thing?”

One day we will turn it around. After all, we did give you Reagan.

        • Grace MacDonald

          Great answer!!

        • Guest

Love the lib co-worker’s attitude. My vote for Romney will mean something….to ME!

  • lilium479

Let’s see if I have it right everywhere Romney/Ryan go is because of desperation, but everywhere Obama goes like Wisconsin is because of confidence…..I see.

    • freeinaz

It’s just like when Romney changes his stance on something he is a flip flopper, but when Obama does it he’s evolving. The media is corrupt.

  • lilium479

Who do you believe The Geo. Soros Puppet show or someone like Michael Barone?
Just attend Chic-Fil-A Tuesday and bring your friends.

  • RDPortland

Confident, well-ahead incumbents aren’t relegated to trying to eke out states they won handily 4 years ago.

They don’t have an approval rating that suggests they’ll garner somewhere around 47-48% of the popular vote, if historical trends prove true.

They don’t essentially concede states they won 4 years ago, such as Indiana and North Carolina.

They don’t send Bill Clinton on a desperation mission to a state the GOP hasn’t won since 2008.

They don’t average sparser crowds than their lackluster 2008 opponent garnered.

They don’t fight and spend their precious resources in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

They do not suffer from an immense enthusiasm gap.

And historically, they simply do not win without garnering states they did not win the first time around.

Trust in Barone. Trust in the crowds, and what you’re seeing and hearing. Mitt Romney is our next President.

Harry, I am not only casting my vote for Mitt, but as pledge to Mr. Woods that his son Tyrone and the other brave and courageous men will have justice! The definition of treason:

        trea·son
        [ trz’n ]
betrayal of country: a violation of the allegiance owed by somebody to his or her own country, e.g. by aiding an enemy.
        treachery: betrayal or disloyalty
        a
ct of betrayal: an act of betrayal or disloyalty

Vote and check the voting machine to be sure Romney’s name is highlighted.

      • dlk

In our precinct in Michigan we use old fashioned paper ballots (blacken the ovals) which we feed into the machine ourselves. We also have to provide ID. I would not trust a touch screen machine.

        • ked5

we use paper, but now the entire state is “vote by mail”. so ID is worthless and chrissy (who won with voter fraud) has ‘register on facebook’.

      • scubaski00

I’ll be taking pictures and videotaping as I cast my ballot!!

lolol …. he’s actually tied in Ohio …. advantage Romney!

Come back Nov. 7. Looking at early voting, it’s clear Romney has Ohio. Pennsylvania would just be icing on the cake.

When Romney wins the Progressives will jam as much as they can down the throats of the US citizens. The UN gun ban only takes the Senate to pass it, same as the LOST treaty. The UN wants control of the Internet and he might let them have it. Obama has used Executive Orders almost every day of his Presidency, look for a huge amount of things designed to hurt the US come pouring out from under his pen. Two days might signal the beginning of the end but the worst might yet to come.

      • Brenda Hellwig

Yes, these people will be more dangerous than ever with nothing left to lose.

  • Shawn Smith

So according to Chris Matthews even running against Obama makes Romney racist. He thinks our president should run unopposed.

If (and I pray this is not true) O is re-elected, any bets on how long before the One’s supporters start talking about repealing the twenty-second amendment so he can be president for life?

    • Michele Russell

I have been saying that since his first year in office, some think thats crazy, but I put nothing past this egomaniac.

    • David Raineri-Maldonado

      Wrong amendment.

      • Shawn Smith

Sorry, you’re right. Correcting that now. It’s *twenty*-second.

        • Michael Morris

Don’t feel too bad, I’m sure he would love to repeal the second amendment.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stevedallen Steve Allen

Shawn, I thought the same thing! Obama is going to do away with term limits for the President, thinking that he will be elected over and over again! This man scares me! He is dangerous, and he’s just waiting for re-election. If he wins, he will unleash a wrath of hell like we’ve never seen before in this country! I’m afraid Obama will try and move this country to restricted, middle eastern standards.

      • Shawn Smith

Constitutional amendment is a very high bar to cross. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it would be very difficult. I would be very surprised, though, if the idea didn’t come up in a (shudder) second Obama term.

        • Zane Henry

Clinton fiddled around with the idea during, I believe, his first term and then again in 2011 he intimated that 8 years just wasn’t long enough to get the job done and that ex-presidents should be allowed to run again after 2 completed terms. Think that was on Morning Joe. So yeah, if Obama gets a second term, he’s gonna try like Hell to get the 22nd repealed.

I’m fairly shocked that Barry didn’t try to get the election suspended due to Sandy.

      • EEKman

WTF is wrong with you? Paranoid much? Get a damn education.

    • Brent Guthrie

A New York Democrat congressman introduced legislation last winter designed to do exactly that. No motion has been taken on the bill at present, but there is something. I don’t remember the details off the top of my head.
Another democrat congressman(also from New York) introduced a bill around the same time that if passed, would allow Obama’s presidential records to be sealed from public scrutiny. No action has been taken on this either, but they’re out there.

    • ENDTHEFED

The ass clown in chief, if re-elected, can and will easily run for a 3rd term. He and his criminal media cartel supporters, have trampled over the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, and 14th amendments with complete and reckless abandon. Why would anyone think he wouldn’t rape the rest of it. Once you get a criminal in power you don’t easily get him out. Especially not ones with Chicago political positions on their resume, life-lessons in the obtainment, securing and protection of power, a culturally conditioned mindset of minority privilege, complimented with the rage of radical fundamentalist Muslim extremism from the 3rd world, and topped off with the twisted anti-colonialist opinions of his ancestors. In short, you get a gangster in, and you don’t easily get him out. The 22nd amendment…p-sha p-sha….he pulls an FDR “Four more year” chant at the DNC to get the nomination again, runs, wins, Is chastised for, once again, raping the constitution, brought to the Supreme Court (evidently, like his propaganda machine LIEberal media mafia in his corner). Absolved, and sent with a pat on his bottom back to the White House to continue doing such a ‘good’ job. The writing on the wall is clear enough. If you cannot vote him out (and I’m not willing to completely concede that we cannot), other measures must be utilized. A good start would be to break up the media mafia under the RICOH laws for the criminal cartel that it is and enact new regulations to ensure that foreign ownership is ended, and the new media which replaces it practices non-biased journalism. End the fed, end the IRS, downsize the guvmint and outlaw guvmint spending beyond its means. Abolish the department of education. Overhaul the Supreme Court and break ties with the UN. ALL LIEberals must pay for the spending of the Obamao years. Conservatives should not be forced to pay for their fraudulent programs. If a LIEberal wants gun control, they should be forced to turn in all their guns. If a LIEberall wants free birth control, the state should provide it…free, and permanent. If a LIEberal wants socialism, we should move them to FEMA camps and support them with their savings and assets until exhausted. After that, they stay in the FEMA camps. We have no room in this country for non-producing deadbeat parasites. If a LIEberal wants free health care, they should get it, and pay for it. For single women and minorities, don’t take this the wrong way, but you’ve voted 9 times out of 10 for the LIEberal. This proves that you cannot be entrusted with such a powerful artifice. For the future of our great nation, these amendments (originally put forth by the Rockefellars to extract more tax dollars from the public and hence more money for their fed) should be repealed and/or modified to ensure this does not happen again. Electronic and mail-in voting (except for military and overseas voters) should be abolished.

    • PapayaSF

Since when has Obama ever stuck around in a difficult job? He’s bounced from one to another all his life. He’s discovered that being President is hard, and while he enjoys the perks and adulation, he clearly doesn’t enjoy the work. After the first debate I wondered if he was actually throwing the election. I suspect he’ll get a cushy job with some left-wing foundation, give speeches (many overseas) to his remaining admirers, and maybe have another book or two ghostwritten for him.

  • $30423294

The phrase has become the symbol of Mr. Obama’s contempt for America.

This man has used the power of the presidency to turn the Sermon on the Mount on its head.

“You have heard it said you must love your enemies. But I say to you, you must punish your enemies!”

“You have heard it said you must forgive your neighbor as you are forgiven. But I say to you, you must seek revenge on your neighbor!”

Thankfully, he is being removed from office in disgrace. But you need to vote on Tuesday!

  • freeinaz

The American people are wide awake and know Obama and his minions are NOT good for our republic. It’s my opinion come Tuesday night around 11:00 pm Mountain time, the race will be called for the 45th president of the United States; Mitt Romney.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stevedallen Steve Allen

I have never seen a President who has to have people life him up under his arms, and carry him through his term because he can’t do his job! Obama has NO idea what he’s doing, so everyone around him is doing his job for him while he’s bopping from talk show to talk show!

He was not qualified to lead this nation in 2008, and he’s certainly not qualified to lead this nation in 2012! He can’t win on his own! He’s not qualified! THAT is why Romney votes are going towards Obama!

    • David Raineri-Maldonado

Obama knew he was in trouble when his media and slime gathering trolls could not force a wedge between Mitt and Ann Romney (Sealed records of divorce and extra-martial affairs being his preferred weapons of choice). He then discovered he was in much larger trouble after the first debate.

Now, Obama has a gunfight on his hands. And Zero is channeling Stephen Lang’s cowardly Ike Clanton from ‘Tombstone’. Self destructing by his own hands, yet blissfully unaware of it.

Not one Dem elected as a judge or state rep or anything. I think PA will go to Romney.

Former US President George W Bush still has “a sickening feeling” about the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, US media report.

Alright libtard, you got me with one article from a left leaning source. You so got me with the facts. LOL

Why don’t you try to educate yourself a little and venture out from your lying bias media sources? Try researching John A. Shaw undersecretary of defense under the Bush admin? If you do enough reading on his testimonies you will see why the WMD thing was not pushed so hard and Bush let off of the subject.

Also, smart guy, how many Kurds did Saddam kill in Northern Iraq with chemical weapons? The chemical weapons you so try to dismiss as not very lethal. You are obviously not very educated on the weapons of mass destruction and war. What do you think most of the Jews were killed with? Yes, chemical weapons(Nerve Gas). Maybe if you served your country and joined the military, your little mind would classify chemical weapons as what they are. It is what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you.

Sorry for blowing your little lies that you so dearly try to hang onto out of the water. Find a different lie to hang onto.

How are you going to justify Benghazi when the truth comes out? Are you going to say that all of the people that are giving the facts are lying? The only person that tells the truth is BO I guess?

You only watch CNN and don’t research anything negative you might hear about your superior one. Maybe if you did you would see right through all of his lies, deception and his flip flops that you guys dismiss as evolving.

Some of his flip flops are as follows-

Voted against increasing the debt limit; then supported raising it.

Campaigned against the Bush tax cuts; then extended all of them.

Promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term; then proposed trillion dollar deficits.

Vowed the unemployment rate would be below 8% if his stimulus was passed; but then it broke 10%.

Promised shovel ready jobs; then admitted they weren’t shovel ready.

            Said
if you like your health plan you can keep it; but then threw seniors
off Medicare Plus and employers are now saying they’ll dump people onto
            the public exchange.

Promised to have health care negotiations on live TV, but then reversed himself.

            Indicated
Bush violated the Constitution; then carried out warrantless wiretaps,
indefinite detentions, secret renditions, quadrupled drone attacks, and
kept Guantanamo Bay open. Voted against the Patriot Act, but then
            supported its extension.

Said lobbyists wouldn’t work in the White House; then gave them waivers to work there.

            Vowed
to take public financing for his 2008 campaign; then refused public
financing when he realized he would receive more money without it.

          • salvagesalvage

Yes, that is an impressive list of wingnut blather but the interesting bit is the few good and true points about Obama continuing some of Bush’s more vile / stupid policies.

What’s hysterical is that even when Obama does stuff you approve of like all that you still scream about how awful he is!

Proving beyond any doubt that it doesn’t matter what Obama does, even when you think it’s right it’s WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

            I wonder why that is?

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeff.harker.7 Jeff Harker

You are truly an idiot. I never sat there and spat hatred like you have and I never said I didn’t like the policies that BO promised to do away with but didn’t. I am giving you examples that are factual on how your superior leader flip flopped on his promises to you. You are the sucker that still believes everything out of his mouth and is holding on to the last bit of hope and scrounging for change off the ground. This is supposed to be a sucker free Sunday. Tell your lies and spread your hate to a crowd of kids or dense people as yourself. Maybe they will follow you into your war against the Republic of The United States of America and everything it stands for. Yes, a Republic and not a democracy. You will learn that in 10th grade U.S. History as well.

          • salvagesalvage

Ha! Ha! Yell some more about how they DID TOO FIND THE WMD!!!!

Your examples are “factual” but rather selective wignuttia for the most part and since you think Obama is a Muslim because he said some Muslims words or something that time being called stupid by you somehow doesn’t amount to much of a burn.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeff.harker.7 Jeff Harker

You obviously can’t read guy, gal or whatever you are. I don’t think I once called Obama a Muslim. I asked you how you knew he wasn’t. You act like you know everything about him for fact. I hate to break it to you but you know nothing about him or anything for that matter from what I have seen. Obama was never vetted and he has sealed most of his past, as I am sure it would have killed his chances. Well, maybe not, when he has the 47% of his backers that you are part of and will vote for him no matter what he does.
Yes, the 47% that Romney mentioned and your liberal media tried to spin as hate. To lay it down for your obvious small mind once again, Romney was referring to people like yourself, that will believe anything they hear and will never change their vote. No matter how damning or bad the things Obama does. Romney said there is no reason to spend time trying to get the votes of those 47% of his backers. I agree that you guys will not change your minds if it was God running for office. You guys must be wearing some special glasses and are seeing something the rest of us aren’t.
This higher education is not free of charge and you will need to reimburse me for these lessons by credit card or cash. I don’t take checks at this time. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Savage, I just like getting your panties in a twist and watching you squirm as you can’t discount anything I have said and you have repeatedly tried to twist my words as you libtard democraps always do. You guys have no substance and go off the lies you hear from your messiah. That is all I ever hear from you. His same talking points. I don’t think any of you people on the left know reality and what is really going on in this world.
I read some of your other posts as well. The ones about how the states can’t survive without FEMA. Well, Growing the federal government with federal agencies such as FEMA, is the same thing as providing welfare for the states as a whole. The states become dependent on all of these agencies and are not self sufficient and don’t know how to act on their own anymore. Yes, the government can supply states with military personnel to help out in an emergency situation but the states should be coordinating their own efforts. The states would be receiving more state income tax and we would be paying less federal income tax.

So why did he say “my Muslim faith” and have to be corrected by the lamestream reporter he was talking to?

        • salvagesalvage

Because he’s a Muslim! Duh! That’s also why he hates America and has been destroying it for the last 4 years.

And he would have gotten away with it to if it wasn’t for you darn wingnuts!!

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeff.harker.7 Jeff Harker

With regards to Team O and their continuing smugness regarding PA. Here is an interesting article regarding Canada’s Liberal Party in the last federal election. They knew what was going on. They knew it was worse than anyone realized or let on. And yet they also believed they could still prevail. In Canadian politics, the Liberals have always been a party of arrogance and condescension. Now they’re a third party looking at extinction. And yet during the election, it was hard for outsiders in the media or the punditocracy to see that outcome despite the polling. http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/the-two-day-ndp-surge-that-sank-the-liberals/article614221/?service=mobile

I think I’ve spotted a trend in these polls, whenever they say Obama is up they’re wrong based on flawed methodology from a partisan source and when they say Romney is up they’re accurate.

On 11/6/12 I am looking forward to getting to the polls early as the lines will be long. Then, I’ll watch returns after supper and plan on the race being dragged out as long as possible so all the networks can make the most of it, but it will still be called early. This will be good for Obama so he can get a head start on his escape into obscurity.

    • EEKman

Yes we must have a single level president! Like Romney! Who has been on both sides of every issue! He’s not liberal or conservative! He’s just the party of one.

Dan Henninger of the WSJ gave a nice analysis of this today on Fox. He said in 2008 a large part of the Evangelical vote that had been pulling for Huckabee did not support McCain, and sat it out. This year is different. They are supporting Romney and they have been flying under the polling radar. Their voting block is huge and will make the difference.

I know it’s a bit off-topic, but it still just amazes me that the left considers Clinton their Grand Old Man and party statesman. Wasn’t he impeached? Didn’t he only have a strong economy and pay off the deficit due to the dawn of the Information age/The Internet – a bubble economy? Didn’t he disgrace the office of President? Didn’t he lose both Houses of Congress to the opposition? Didn’t he leave office with a major bubble about to burst, causing a major recession, not to mention missing Osama, which ultimately led to 9/11? Didn’t Bush pull us out of that recession, DESPITE 9/11, in only about 2 years? I’m just a bit surprised that he is now the best thing the Liberals can put out there…kind of pathetic.

Yes, yes we get it. When Obama is ahead in the polls you get all whiny and say the polls are skewed. It doesn’t surprise me. Whenever someone is losing they always go into denial and say it’s not fair. I hear a bunch of kicking, screaming little children not getting their way and doing their best by putting their fingers in their ears and chanting “la la la la la na na na”….. Malkin, you are a deplorable partisan hack. You make me sick.

I’m still ignoring polls. I can’t find them all that trustworthy, no matter where they come from. It seems like no matter what, they can be skewed. I ignore predictions, too.

What matters to me, is making sure people are going to kick some ass, by voting. Voting is one of the best rights, ever, and I can’t wait to do it. I just worry about those that like to vote more than once. I can’t stand cheaters and law breakers.

I would love to see someone try to intimidate me, though. I have a feeling they wouldn’t get very far and would end up walking funny.

We can read the writing on the wall, and if B.O. steals this election, they WILL attempt to revoke our human and civil right to Keep and Bear Arms. The “Bitter Clingers” of America will unite and will show those idiots exactly WHY our Second Amendment was written.

“The gun has been called the great equalizer, meaning that a small
person with a gun is equal to a large person, but it is a great
equalizer in another way, too. It insures that the people are the
equal of their government whenever that government forgets that it is servant and not master of the governed. When the British forgot that they got a revolution. And, as a result, we Americans got a Constitution; a Constitution that, as those who wrote it were
determined, would keep men free. If we give up part of that
Constitution we give up part of our freedom and increase the chance
that we will lose it all.” –Ronald Reagan

Greetings from a bitter clinger in the City of Brotherly Love – PA District 1 is D +35 (no typo). We look forward to (quietly) casting our vote for Romney and maybe having them mean something. When we got married, my husband asked me to get rid of my gun (.22 pump rifle) and I refused. He asked me this afternoon to be sure to have the gun at the ready in case Romney wins and we have riots. It’s like my emergency hurricane kit – just in case. Funny, we seemed to have had another hurricane recently as well… VOTE!

I had to show up for jury duty recently and during voir dire the judge asked those of us in the NRA to stand. Five or six of us stood, including myself. Then he asked anyone who was a member of the Brady campaign to stand. No one stood. Finally, he asked anyone who owned a firearm to stand. TWO-THIRDS out of over a hundred of us stood, and this was in Delaware County, supposedly a place where Obama hopes to have huge support. It was wonderful to behold, especially with the audible gasps from some who had remained sitting.

“a reasonable D+6 sample”? That would have been reasonable in 2008, when the actual vote was D+7, but in 2012 the GOP has the advantage in party affiliation, by about R+4.

The only website I know that shows “unskewed” results is http://unskewedpolls.com/ If you look at the unskewed results, Romney leads in every poll.

Also, the polls are still based upon totally unrealistic “Likely Voter” percentages. IN 2008 the LV’s who actually voted was 63%; current polls are using 70% to 94%, in order to favor Obama.

Tomorrow is going to be a blowout — for Romney.

Don’t put too much stock in the polls that have Obama winning Wisconsin. The polls (including exit polls on election night) had Gov Walker losing the recall, which he WON by 7 points. I still can’t figure out how Obama had a 14 point lead here after the recall.
