President Thug at Ohio rally: ‘Voting is the best revenge’

Unbelievable. At a rally today in Ohio, our president had this to say to his audience:

When did this kind of menacing rhetoric become acceptable? Conservatives couldn’t believe their ears:

If what President Obama wants from this country is vengeance, he’ll get it in the form of conservatives exercising their right to kick him to the curb after four years of running this country into the ground:

Pack your bags, Mr. President.

How does his statement reflect a hatred for America? Isn’t voting one of the distinctions that makes America America?

      • Shawn Smith

Using the term “revenge” here is very disturbing. It’s setting some Americans not just in disagreement, but in violent conflict, with others.

        • Purple State

“Revenge” doesn’t always connote violence. And the Americans he was speaking to (the rally attendees) were already in disagreement with others. They were booing Romney’s name (and by implication, his policies.)

          • Shawn Smith

Exactly what has Romney done that calls for “revenge”?

          • Purple State

You’ll have to ask the attendees of this rally that question. They were the ones booing Romney’s name. They’re obviously offended by something.

          • Michelle

The attendees aren’t the one who used the word “revenge.” The attendees simply booed, a simple display of disapproval. To invoke the idea of “revenge” is a whole other thing and it what came out of Obama’s mouth.

          • Purple State

I realize who was speaking at the rally but the question the commenter above asked was about why Romney was being booed, which is best directed to the booers.

          • Michelle

No, actually read the comment again. The question was, “Exactly what has Romney done that calls for “revenge”? That question doesn’t contain the word “booed” it contains the word “revenge” Again, the attendees didn’t use the word revenge, Obama did. So your suggestion the attendees should be asked why Obama said “revenge” makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

          • Purple State

Again, the attendees booed. Obama suggested voting instead of just booing. If that’s seen as an act of revenge, the agents of that action would be the attendees. So the justification for that action would be theirs. The question was not “why did Obama say “revenge?” If it were, you’d have to ask HIM that.

          • Hat Whit

ummm the word “revenge” suggests an action in response to an offense. One takes revenge for some offensive action. The problem with the word in this context is that it presumes that some offense has been committed against these people or the speaker. Revenge does not NOT encompass the spirit that should inspire a vote. Voting should not be about getting back at some presumed “other” or the divisiveness that act suggests. It should be about finding the best leader for our state.

Having said that, those of us who have suffered under the rule of this president (not one of the few constituents lucky enough to glean the generous hand outs to the cronies of this administration) might tend to think of our votes as revenge against the sitting president. However, we probably would be too civil to seek to incite that sentiment in others.

          • Shawn Smith

By the way, are these the words of the “uniter” Obama tried to sell himself as? They sound angry and divisive to me.

          • Purple State

Romney’s 47% speech sounded more angry and divisive to me.

          • elijahzabmom

That wasn’t a speech and you know it. That was a discussion with potential campaign investors. One obviously who was up to no good. If you LISTENED to the whole thing you would know it was election strategy and that he WASN’T talking about veterans/seniors, or the disabled.

          • Purple State

I listened to the whole thing. (When a guy stands up at a podium and talks for an hour, I call it a speech. You can call it a discussion if you’d like, though Romney was the only one “discussing.”) The number 47% is arrived at by counting veterans, seniors and the disabled — not excluding them. It would be a lower number if they weren’t who he was talking about.

Regardless, it was still divisive: he cut the country in half.

          • Purple State

I never labeled disabled, veterans or seniors as useless? It is a fact though that they are among the 47% of citizens who don’t pay annual income taxes — which Mr. Romney said were the voting bloc that felt “entitled.” Not me. Not liberals. Romney. I am only too happy to pay taxes so those groups don’t have to. They include my grandparents.

          • http://twitter.com/AUBraves AUBraves

No, it is a NOT a fact.

          • Purple State

Not all veterans pay no annual income tax, true. My point is the 47% includes some veterans — as well as other groups who are not “freeloaders” on food stamps as is often depicted on the right. My grandparents, like many seniors, don’t pay federal income tax because they live off social security benefits, which are excluded. Seniors make up one-fifth of the 47%.

          • Guest

            If all

          • elijahzabmom

If you are not a free loader by definition you aren’t in the 47%. The 47% is comprised of people who are able bodied and CHOOSE not to work. Veterans have EARNED their benefits.

          • Purple State

Wrong. The number of people in this country who don’t pay annual federal income taxes includes seniors, the disabled, veterans, college students, etc. I know that doesn’t fit the conservative narrative of the “moocher” class, but it’s the truth. If you don’t believe, please research it.

So the question is, how much should seniors pay in income tax on their social security benefits? How much should the disabled pay of their disability check to the federal government each year? And so on.

You might not consider these folks “freeloaders,” but the fact is, they are among the 47% of Americans who don’t pay annual income taxes that Romney was speaking of.

          • Stef Papenfuss

          • Barb

Revenge is a harmful action against a person or group in response to a grievance, be it real or perceived. It is also called payback, retribution, retaliation or vengeance; it may be characterized as a form of justice, an altruisticaction which enforces societal or moral justice aside from the legal system. This is the definition of the word.
The meaning of the word itself connotes violence

        • Stef Papenfuss

So, you just picked the word ‘revenge’. Not the full sentence ‘Voting’s the best revenge’. How convenient !

      • Michelle

Not the way he worded it. Voting in my country isn’t an act of revenge and to suggest it is only further divides this country. They are not the words of a man who is the least bit interested in mending this country.

        • Purple State

Actually the way it’s worded suggests that voting is a more effective method to show one’s displeasure in a political candidate than booing him at a rally.

The most divisive words I’ve heard this entire campaign were Romney’s during his 47% speech. Didn’t feel very “mending” to me.

          • elijahzabmom

That wasn’t a speech. That was a snippet. He also spoke about Israel and lots of other topics.

          • https://twitter.com/AlessaRosewater Maria

Israel…a topic that Obama sees as just “noise”.

          • Michelle

Well, we’ll have to agree to disagree. I am a person who is totally capable of expressing displeasure, I am not a person capable of revenge. You seem to hold the idea they are one and the same, they are not. You are also seemingly confused about Romney’s 47% comment – it was about and only about the percentage of votes he didn’t expect to receive. And he didn’t make the comment in a public speech, he made it in a private meeting where the attendees were discussing campaign strategy – Romney was simply pointing out it was unlikely he would get the votes of the 47% who don’t pay taxes. It’s actually quite simple to understand what he said and why, only someone who is looking to paint it in a bad light sees it as “divisive” After reading all your comments on here, it’s very clear to me you’re one of the folks who will have an excuse for anything that anyone questions about Obama (he has taught you well!). With that in mind, you and I have nothing more to debate – you will believe only what you want to believe which is only what you choose to see. Have a good day.

          • Purple State

“only someone who is looking to paint it in a bad light sees it as “divisive””

Same could be said of this Obama “revenge” statement.

            Take care.

          • Michelle

Revenge: The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for a wrong suffered at their hands.

The action of inflicting hurt or harm. The president stated that voting is the action of inflicting hurt or harm. People like you, who either choose to be ignorant or are incapable of being otherwise, are exactly what is wrong with this country.

          • Purple State

Words are defined in nuances, not absolutes. From Merriam Webster: revenge: “an opportunity for getting satisfaction; ‘sought revenge through a rematch'”

So, the president stated that voting for him is the opportunity for getting satisfaction. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

          • Dwayne Jackson

            Satisfaction for what?

          • redheadgrl

huh. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/revenge has revenge defined this way:

1: to avenge (as oneself) usually by retaliating in kind or degree

            2

: to inflict injury in return for

The definition you chose was number 3 listed under revenge as a noun, not a verb. So, even if Mr. Obama used revenge as a noun, there were 2 definitions listed above the one you chose:

            2revenge noun

            Definition of REVENGE

            1

            : a desire for revenge

            2

: an act or instance of retaliating in order to get even

          • Al Sharptons Hair

Ok, I don’t know what your not understanding but your a drone so it’s no use. A person doesn’t accuse someone of killing their spouse, not being nice to their garbage man and bankrupting companies, killing big bird, etc. The guy is a radical, he’s was a paying member of the socialist party of chicago and attended communist party meetings. That’s how he met axelrod, jarrett and company.

Actually, the way he worded it means that he wants revenge. you can make up anything you wish… but the man says he means what he says. And he said voting is the best revenge.

You consider the 47% as divisive? Who is divided in that statement? Certainly not a race or religion or sexual preference. Rich divided against poor? Who was he dividing?

            “Voting is the best revenge.”
            “Put you back in chains…”

            Those are divisive statements.

According to Obama he’s the smartest man in the room

        re·venge (r-vnj) tr.v. re·venged, re·veng·ing, re·veng·es

        1. To inflict punishment in return for (injury or insult).
        2. To seek or take vengeance for (oneself or another person); avenge.n.
        3. The act of taking vengeance for injuries or wrongs; retaliation.
        4. Something done in vengeance; a retaliatory measure.
        5. A desire for revenge; spite or vindictiveness.

Is this a man who should be President, a man who swears an oath to protect ‘ALL’ Americans. No, those are the words of a dictator threatening vengeance on his political enemies. It is the epitome of hatred.

        re·venge/riˈvenj/
        Noun:
The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for a wrong suffered at their hands.
        Verb:
Inflict hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong done to oneself.

So why is the President of the United States telling his supporters that the other side needs to have harm or hurt inflicted on then… And what wrongs does he think have to be righted.

Here’s the full context of the quote:

“For eight years, we had a President who shared these beliefs — a guy named Bill Clinton. (Applause.) And so our beliefs were put to the test. His economic plan asked the wealthiest Americans to pay a little bit more so we could continue to invest in our people, continue to invest in ideas and innovation, invest in our infrastructure. And at the time the Republican Congress and a Senate candidate by the name of Mitt Romney –

    AUDIENCE: Booo –

THE PRESIDENT: No, no, no — don’t boo, vote. (Applause.) Vote! Voting is the best revenge.

But at the time Mitt Romney said Bill Clinton’s plan would hurt the economy and kill jobs, it turns out his math back then was just as bad as it is today. (Applause.) Because by the end of President Clinton’s second term, America had created 23 million new jobs, and incomes were up and poverty was down, and our deficit became the biggest surplus in history. So our ideas were tried and tested, and they worked. Their ideas were also tried, and they didn’t work out so well.”

So “revenge” in this case seems to refer to Romney and the GOP’s Congress criticism of the Clinton/Democrat idea that all of America succeeds when the very wealthiest citizens pay their fair share of taxes to elevate the entire society.

Nothing radical, nothing extreme, nothing divisive — the same message Obama’s been communicating during the entire campaign.

Said like a true Chicago thug! Obama will better understand the true meaning of revenge when the truth about Benghazi is revealed in its entirety. Then, the righteous and pure revenge of God Almighty will be displayed!

Thanks Mr. Preezy…… You just gave Mitt a taylor-made alliey-oop…. Here’s what the Governor said at his rally in West Chester, Ohio last night….. (paraphrased) “He asks you to vote for revenge, i am asking the American people to vote for LOVE OF COUNTRY” (the line earned the governor the largest and longest cheer of the night – and justifiably so)….. In a side by side, there can be no doubt which man is better suited to be our President… no doubt whatsoever!

“Voting is the best revenge.” Thank you obowmao I’ll remember those words when when I revenge you out of office on Tuesday.

  • Tim

It is so hard for me to believe that this race is even close with all the stupid, incompetent things this Administration has done to discredit the USA.

  • dralfredbellows

For once, the POTUS has said something with which I totally agree. Ergo, I shall pull the lever for the challenger. #OneTermProposition

  • C_W_W

Class warfare at it’s worst. But, that’s what can be expected from Obama…we’ve seen it all before in the last 4+ years now. His candidacy has been one of divisiveness, anger and hate from all the way back in 2008 and before. He’s been the same man throughout his one and only term as President…he is not the change anyone was looking for.

  • catonine

You obviously don’t appreciate nuance — “Voting is the best revenge” I take as revenge against those who would manipulate the truth. Fox, are you listening??

    • EEKman

Revenge against voter suppression. Like the bs 8 hour lines in democratic districts in Florida.

Don’t think this mindset hasn’t been used by BO regarding how he assists states who voted for him or not. Check the record.

When he diverts from the teleprompter script, he reveals his heart and governance methodology.

  • gracepmc

Once again, off script, off teleprompter, Valerie Jarrett nowhere in sight — the real Barack Obama shares his real self.

  • RightWingLeftyGolfer

For the love of my country, I will be gladly “taking out my revenge” on Tuesday when I assist in the process of getting your skinny a$$ and the lard a$$ of your wife out of the People’s House! Oh sweet revenge!

  • rbtpowell

    By a punk…for punks.

  • DANEgerus

Remember when Obama told Hispanics to punish Whitey? “Our Enemies?”

What exactly is wrong with this?

    • Marie

He’s a hypocrite for whining about civility and whatnot and then he comes out with this crap.

Yeah, I’ve already gotten my revenge against Obama and idiots like you – I voted for Romney. One of the best things I have ever done, and if Romney wins, your misery will be a wonder to behold.

Oh, and in the same spirit I have this question: what exactly was wrong with Romney’s 47% remark? It’s the truth. Nothing wrong with speaking the truth.

      • EEKman

it’s revenge for your voter suppression BS. it’s not hard to figure out, but then again, you guys were never that smart.

What exactly is wrong with this?

  • Kathryn Warner

“Voting is the best revenge” is an allusion to an adage well known to speakers of the English language, “Living well is the best revenge,” from English poet George Herbert’s “Jacula Prudentium.” (the preceding is a quote from another article)

  • WVS

Obviously this is why nothing’s happened to the Benghazi murderers. Obama plans to vote them to death in revenge.

  • RaggedyAnn46

Around the town we live there are many “Obama Thugs”, so we don’t dare put a Romney sticker on the bumper of our car for fear of vandalism. I guess he’s proud that those are the kind who support his sorry behind!

  • Jim Denney

Hang signs on the foreclosures in your town. Here in MD I have many vacant houses to post signs on. As a bonus, many people left behind lawn furniture which serves nicely for “Eastwooding.”

  • RaggedyAnn46

    Awesome idea!

  • RaggedyAnn46

    Couldn’t agree more!

They forget he’s half white too. Typical.

  • Jim Denney

Thanks, I also look up the former owners on the public record database, then sign up for BHO campaign literature, bumper stickers, etc. Anything to waste their money – in the immortal gibberish of Al Sharpton … “Resist we much!”
