We feel badly for the runners who flew to New York already, but this was the right decision.

Damn right it was the right decision, about time.

let them run on treadmills to generate electricity

  • Matthew Mouritsen

@NYCMayorsOffice is saying the same thing.

Life when doing what is right, is harder than doing what is easy……Congrats to all those who took the time to blog,e mail, scream, raise hell, call, and tweet!

They completely blew this in a PR sense. Will make for some great college case studies on what to do – or not do.

  • DANEgerus

The bodies of those runners, as skinny as they were, would’ve fed a lot of Staten Island residents…

  • Just Another Guy

Days late and dollars wasted … you could swear that Bloomberg is a Democrat 😉

    • Cosmic Girl

He might as well complete his transformation and join that insane clown posse called the democrats, because he’s as liberal as they come.

  • CalCon10

Incompetence and fecklessness on display. Thank you, Nanny Bloomberg!

  • stuckinIL4now

Bloomy is still an idiot and the runners who’ve already flown there should direct any wrath they might have toward him.

I love the one who tweeted “New York City Marathon canceled. Very late in the day. So now they’ve not only irritated storm survivors, but runners too.” Awwww… those poor, runners. They can go home – many in NYC don’t have a home to go to.

    • Jesse Malkin

It may pale in comparison to the distress of hurricane victims, but canceling the race at this late date imposed a significant (and unnecessary) cost on the runners. It would have been better to cancel it a couple of days ago.

  • Paula Noakes

About bloody time. Now will they make the hotels give those rooms back to the people that were kicked out, who don’t have homes to return to?

  • Brett McMicken

well, that’s a relief! it saves people from having to decide between attending the marathon or looking for something to eat.
