Secret Service explains how to ‘report a tweet that concerns you’

After Twitchy reported recent assassination threats against GOP nominee Mitt Romney, many readers notified the Secret Service via Twitter. But the Secret Service is letting the Twitterverse know that it prefers people report threatening tweets directly to state field offices.

Last week, a Secret Service spokesman told The Weekly Standard that agents would review threats and “conduct appropriate follow up if necessary.”

Actually, no. It means all threats handled by the Secret Service. And plenty of them come from oh-so-tolerant lefties:

  • Alicia Hake

lol! it would take a MASSIVE effort on our part to report all of the left wing crazies that are threatening murder and rioting. I’ll gladly go my part though.

    • Alicia Hake

*do, whoops. 4 hours later i correct my mistake, lol :)

    From the Secret Service website:

“By law, the Secret Service is authorized to protect:

    * The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect
    * The immediate families of the above individuals
    * Former presidents, their spouses, except when the spouse re-marries
    * Children of former presidents until age 16
    * Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad
    * Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election
    * Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President and
    * National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security”

And yes, they do recommend you contact your nearest U.S. Secret Service Field Office if you want to report *any* posted threat against the President, Vice President, or a candidate for either of the two offices (i.e. Gov. Romney and Congressman Ryan).

Sooooooo, apparently they are protecting the plethora of islamic terrorists visiting this Nation and our White House while obama squats on his throne.

Threatening the President, et. al. (see Reply #2) is not protected speech. So, yeah, you might as well yell “fire” in the proverbial theater.

  • Maria

That’s going to be a lot of dialing to report all the Left Wing whackos who are making threats against Romney.
Also, jash (@jashsf) doesn’t strike me as a tower of intelligence–or even a shed.

the secret service may be officially neutral, but I can almost guarantee most are rooting for romney. and not just because bozo treats them like dirt.

  • Hello Jerry (D)

    @jashsf is an idiot

  • Anne B.

Secret Service has been protecting Mitt Romney for quite some time.

  • LoriGirl

    Exactly. :)
