Spam-besieged Obama supporters complain about Maya Angelou e-mail

As Twitchy told you earlier today, the Obama campaign is now hitting voters with spam direct messages on Twitter. The social media oversaturation continues with a new e-mail poem-esque missive from Maya Angelou.

Message from Obama supporters to Obama: Make. It. Stop.

Here’s the e-mail:

I am not writing to you as a black voter, or a woman voter, or as a voter who is over 70 years old and six feet tall. I am writing to you as a representative of this great country — as an American.

It is your job to vote. It is your responsibility, your right, and your privilege. You may be pretty or plain, heavy or thin, gay or straight, poor or rich.

But remember this: In an election, every voice is equally powerful — don’t underestimate your vote. Voting is the great equalizer.

Voting has already begun in some states that President Obama needs to win. So please use this handy tool to make sure your friends in those key states know where to cast their ballot. You will be doing them a great favor.

As a country, we can scarcely perceive the magnitude of our progress.

My grandmother and my uncle experienced circumstances that would break your heart. When they went to vote, they were asked impossible questions like, “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?” When they couldn’t answer, they couldn’t vote.

I once debated with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. about whether an African American would ever be elected president. He believed it would happen within the next 40 years at the time — I believed it would never happen within my lifetime.

I have never been happier to have been proven wrong.

And since President Barack Obama’s historic election, we’ve moved forward in courageous and beautiful ways. More students can afford college, and more families have access to affordable health insurance. Women have greater opportunities to get equal pay for equal work.

Yet as Rev. King wrote, “All progress is precarious.”

So don’t sit on the sidelines. Don’t hesitate. Don’t have any regrets. Vote.

Go, rise up, and let your friends and family in early vote states know where they can vote today. We must make our voices heard:

Your vote is not only important. It’s imperative.

Thank you,

Dr. Maya Angelou

P.S. — Not on Facebook? Send your friends to — don’t let technology get in the way of your incredible duty to our democracy.

Well, voters can help end the madness on Nov. 6.

Translation: Vote for Obama or else, Mofos

    • nyctreeman

When you speak French, it drives me wild!

      • twinx

Comme ceci: mon petit chou-chou chéri? Tu es bien amusant, mon Arbre; ta réponse était très drôle et j’ai éclaté de rire. ♥♥

      • twinx

Ha! Reminds me of Gomez Addams: “Tish, that FRENCH…” Let me know if you need a translation! 😉

  • papertiguer

another self important gasbag who writes dreadful poetry and far from caring about America is willing to overlook the glaring deficiencies of a very incompetent Obama

    • Iacobus

When I first read one of her poems, to say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement.

  • Kent Vig

    I smell desperation

  • Michael Schneider

Never heard of the lady and I certainly don’t care enough about her to look her up. Any one who would spam you like that is selling something you don’t want. You hang with dogs you get fleas. Simple as that.

  • Justus Lotade-Manje

I got the same email and tweeted that it was TOO LOW for Maya to introduce her email as NOT speaking as a black person, yet later one used race to ask to vote for Obama?

  • Worship Dancer

what they aren’t spouting their slogan from 2008 anymore? you know vote early, VOTE OFTEN????? guess that ACORN thing isn’t so popular to have touted publicly anymore.

  • Castle Towery

she starts out saying not about black then says how excited she is to have a black president huh

  • Julie

“I am not writing to you as a black voter,” But I sure as hell am going to remind you to vote black!!!

    • Jim Cooper

      I voted today!

  • weRbroke

latest email harvest by obama for america is a “free” bumpersticker for your email and zipcode. They run a #GoodLuckJoe phishing expedition by asking people to sign their name and email to “wish” Biden well in the debate. I wonder what they do with all that info…attempt to match it to donations?

  • David Isler

Sorry you’re so unsettled over a compassionate appeal for an urgent cause.

    • TugboatPhil

This isn’t about raising money for the Romney campaign.

    • 1azuce

More like a desperate appeal for a lost cause.

Maya scoffs that voters in her day were asked how many angels could dance on the head of a pin, and if they couldn’t answer, they couldn’t vote.

The answer to the question is zero, because angels have no physical dimension.

I don’t see the answer to this question being particularly difficult.

Now, granted, even educated people today are ignorant of how philosophers investigate their topics, so the question could appear stupid to someone like Ms. Angelou. So let me clear things up.

Philosophers, including those from medieval times during the rebirth of Aristotelian philosophy, tend to investigate what things are by looking at the way language is used.

Thus, the medieval philosophers asked, what is an angel? And they might observe that people in every day speech would never say “how many angels can dance on the head of a pin”, and consequently they would draw the inference that the reason why the question is strange is that our concept of angels does not involve the concept of physical dimension.

This isn’t crazy talk. It’s how philosophy works. A modern philosopher like Wittgenstein might ask “can a person envy himself?” The question in its simplicity reveals something about the concept of envy. I.e., it is not a state of mind, it is a social relation. This is a rather interesting finding, isn’t it? One doesn’t “feel” envy. We think we do, but envy is really a certain way that two people are situated with respect to each other.

It’s sad to see someone as smart as Ms. Angelou laughing off a good philosophical question as ridiculous.

I’ll make you a deal, Ms. Angelou. You quit making fun of legitimate philosophy, and I’ll quit making fun of modern poetry. We simply don’t understand one another, but that doesn’t have to mean that one of us is stupid.

Let’s say it again: Desperation is a stinky cologne!

  • Jim Wafwot

Once again, the left brings race into the picture. Here’s what Maya’s “poetic” email should have been:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue.
    Vote for Obama,
Or no Food Stamps for you!
    Light of day,
    Dark of night.
    Vote for Obama,
    ‘Cause he ain’t white.

    • WingedBishop

She’s not talented enough to put that together.

  • SineWaveII

“Obama got Maya Angelou emailing me now, who’s next the dog? ”
Funny you should say that I got an email from Bo right here…

    To the humans

This is Bo Obama’s dog, I’m scared. I was just in the kitchen and Barkak (that what I call him) was in the there sharpening all of the knives. When I came in he gave me that look that he gave Romney during that third debate. I don’t mind telling you, I’m scared! I ran and hid but I’m afraid he’s going to find me. Can the presidential dog get secret service protection? Can some nice human please come get me? I’m a really nice dog and I deserve better than to be an entre’. If you get this message I’m at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington DC. It’s called the White House. Please hurry…oh no Amazon just delivered a Korean cuisine cookbook. My days are numbered. I’m going to go find a better hiding place…… Please hurry. Thanks! Sincerely Bo

  • youmad_ll

    such hateful people. wow

  • yviemarie88

This just makes me sad bc I have so much respect for her talent and spirit. She had a profound effect on my youth, left an unforgettable impression. This is really going to reduce her position in the lives of many and for what? A man who could care less that he is just using her for her status in the world…oh, Maya. Why didn’t you just call Oprah first? She knows the fallout.

When you are the incumbent and still NOT breaking 50% in the polls you’ve thought you had had a lock on for months. And it’s thirteen days short of the election…. YOU’VE LOST!!!!

E-mails from Maya Angelou are NOT going to help!

Keep it up, though. Each E-mail increases the chance of those you are trying to persuade to turn on you.

  • nyctreeman

When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
    – Maya Angelou

Well the Libtard Messiah Obamaramadingdong showed us who he really was a very long time ago … and I believed him … He’s a Marxist piece of sh*t who cuddled up to domestic terrorists, and entered college with a foreign exchange student visa.

And now … I’d like to recite one of my own poems, which I dedicate to Maya Angelou:

    Roses be red
    Violets am blue
    Listen up honkies
    I really hates you!

    Thank you very much 😀

    • twinx

LOL, you outdid yourself on this one! You KILL me. My dad used to say “When a man says he has moved a mountain, believe him. When he says he has changed his character, believe him not.” Ol’ Maya voted on skin color and nothing else. O’s character was apparent for anyone willing to see it.

  • The Daffodil Times

How many conservatives did it take to google images of black people and create these fake twitter accounts?

    • YERMOM182

because all black people have to stay on the same mental plantation right? Otherwise they get their Uncle Tom asses beat down.

  • TugboatPhil

After reading the email….Now I know why the caged bird beat his head against the bars until he died. He never wanted to read her writing again.

  • goldeeloxx

Voting for someone because they are black is JUST as RACIST as not voting for someone because they are black!! SO FLIPPIN SICK OF THE RACE CARD BEING PLAYED! I won’t vote for Obama because he SUCKED at the job!!

  • juliusstahl

WTF? Is Maya getting out the plagiarist vote?

  • Cesar BBiano

After starring in a Madea movie, I had a feeling it would be downhill for Maya Angelou lol
