Undecided voters in Frank Luntz focus group lean strongly toward Romney; Luntz: ‘This is as significant as Denver’

President Obama may have rallied his base tonight, but did he win over any undecided voters? According to the undecided Nevada voters in pollster Frank Luntz’s focus group, the answer is a resounding “no.”

  • Aestro

Hahahaha Frank Luntz? The manufacturer of GOP spin? The man that changed “estate tax” to “Death tax”? THAT Frank Luntz?

Was Romney himself among the “undecided voters” or would that have been too obvious?

    • $18912735

We’ll find out on November 6th.

      • Aestro

We will. The polls are tight and I’m hardly calling this one for Obama, but Luntz’s entire career has literally been as a GOP spinster.

    • grais

Romney was in New York. I thought everybody knew that.

    • K-Dog

Estate tax? You mean when they tax your money when you die… that you’ve already paid taxes once before? That money? It’s a Death Tax.

      • Aestro

I’m no millionaire, so it’s not a tax on my death. THAT is where the spin occurs and why Luntz is so successful.

        • bluewaternavy

Actually they tax EVERYONE, millionaire or not. take a close look at the tax law.

          • ember

Well, now, that’s with the assumption that you own your home, have money in the bank, and have worked to provide for your own retirement. If you’ve free-loaded all your life on welfare, medicaid, govt housing, and other freebies, then technically, you won’t have a death tax when you die. You’ll just leave your kids with a burial bill to pay.

          • Aestro

You can work very hard in life and not have five million dollars.

          • Finrod Felagund

No, *you* can work very hard in life and not have five million dollars. You’re not going to earn much living in your parents’ basement and working Mcjobs. Successful people, on the other hand, can and do.

          • Aestro

I did. Technically the tax law starts at $0, but it also has built-in deductions that currently sit at $5.12 million. It’s similar to income tax, which technically starts at $0, but has a standard deduction of $5950 and a personal deduction of $3800, so even though it starts at 0, taxation effectively starts at $8951. For the estate tax, it starts at $5.12 million.

          • kimmyincali

Funny it’s only a “spin” if it doesn’t benefit your argument, Did you not listen?…Romney’s plan is to change the tax laws. It’s apparent Oblamer’s aren’t working. It’s pitiful the empty chair in the White House has got all of his …followers…believing it’s a sin to work hard and try to achieve better for yourself. I’m not a millionaire either but I still respect Mr. Romney’s achievements and I may never get there but I still want the future earners of this country to have the ability to achieve his success…not believe your evil if you do! It’s what this country was founded on. Oblamer’s plan is depend on government. After your parents are done taking care of you, government will take their place and do it for them. BS!

        • The_Original

Estate tax is a a tax on the estate with a $1M exemption. No estate worth less than $1M is taxed. State’s also have either estate or inheritance tax. In my state, it is called “inheritance tax” since it is a tax on the person inheriting. Most of state taxes based on someone’s death follow the federal law. I spent 20 years working in probate and estate planning.

The problem is that this affects people who have their money wrapped up in a farm or a business that is worth more than a million dollars. Most of them have to sell their farm or business to pay the tax. That is why a tax based on someone’s death is onerous.

    • rivers

You take offense when someone pulls the covers off of your euphemisms, I see. When pray tell does estate tax go into effect? Graduation? Marriage? Retirement? Nope! At your DEATH!
      So there you go.

      • http://twitter.com/_steakhouse_ Steakhouse

No, but you’re missing the point. The “focus group” you angry white people are all rallying around tonight was concocted by a GOP spin doctor.

        • rivers

LOL, spoken like a teenage boy who takes himself way to seriously. “Angry white people”. Zing.
Sorry, pinky, my point still stands.

        • TiLiNi

          I am not white!

        • Catchance

Oooh, a ‘GOP spin doctor’. I guess that would make Gallup a spin doctor, too. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

        • kimmyincali

Well I’m white….but I’m not angry…except at this President who hasn’t done a thing for this economy…and I would think you would be too considering unemployment is highest in the black community. Oh wait…after 4 years it’s STILL Bushes fault. (Sarcasm) Stop believing the lies and start looking at the REALITY

        • J. Cox

Angry white people?Did you not get the memo..the race baiting sh*t does not work, and it makes you look like a clown. Now go grab your big shoes and red nose and move on to waronwoman mantra.

        • elijahzabmom

          I’m not white though.

    • operanerd1986

The “estate tax” is a death tax. When you die, your inheritors have to pay taxes to the government out of your own possessions.

    • bluewaternavy

You show your absolute ignorance about tax law in this country. When ou die, your estate has to pay a tax based on it’s worth. Just went through it with my father. He paid taxes on all his money made in his lifetime of hard work and sacrifice–then Barry taxed it again after he die. THAT is called a ‘death tax”.

Why can you not understand that?

      • Aestro

Congratulations then, you must be a wealthy man. The estate tax has an exclusion currently at $5.12 million.

The spin occurs that it’s designed to make the average American think they’ll be taxed upon death, when it in fact only applies to the top 1-2%.

Hence, it’s a tax on estates, not on death itself.

        • nc

How sad to go through life jealous of the success of others. Does that also include the person who signs your paycheck?

    • MNJ

Hey Aestro, Elroy just called to remind me that when his father George died that “estate tax”caused him to sell the family business they had built so the government could spend one point five billion dollars on free Obama phones in swing states.. This year. So to Elroy, it most certainly was a “death tax.” The death of his business. Yes, that Frank Luntz!

      • Aestro

Are you talking about the Jetsons? They’re in the future, man. And George worked for Spacely Sprockets – he didn’t own them.

Regardless of your actual stance of the estate tax, Luntz is still a spinster by trade. I mean, if you think that 75% of Obama’s supporters are jumping ship, you can always sit home on election day since it’s going to be a landslide anyway.

  • http://twitter.com/J0EBIDEN Joe Biden

    Obama got Mitt-slapped tonight.

    • ATyter

      Good one!!

    • philomena

Love it, Joe! May I use that henceforth?

      • http://twitter.com/J0EBIDEN Joe Biden

        Yes you may.

  • bluewaternavy

“Bullshitting the public” The entire Obama administration in a nutshell…

    • philomena

That made my night. And he was an Obama voter, wasn’t he?

      • bluewaternavy

        Sure was..with emphasis on “was”

    • hwy505

      That was awesome.

    • http://IKnowBO.com/ Slam1263

      Best line all night.

    • beastdogs8

The last nearly 4 nightmarish years under Obama has looked like bullshit, smelled like bullshit, yet Obama and his accomplices in the liberal media has been trying to convince everyone to ignore reality, and eat the BS because they put a pretty bow on top of it. November can’t come here fast enough.

  • Holly Fragoso

This focus group is right on target~ Time to go Mr. O!!!

  • grais

Very good news. Obama’s lying is getting more and more desperate.

    • bluewaternavy

even better is that people are seeing through the lies. There is hope yet…

      • Deborah

        I sure hope so!

    • AmericanRight12

He got away with one thanks to that CNN hack Crowley. Get ready for next week. Obama gets buried by the truth.

  • stuckinIL4now

I didn’t get that one woman who’s all worried about Romney taking away her rights as a woman, claiming that Obamuh cares about women. Man has she chewed and swallowed the Dooms’ crap sandwich. Obamuh cares so much about women that he has them lying for him (Cutter, DWS) and taking the blame for his failures (Clinton, Rice).

    • Shelley O’Hara Plunkett

Obama doesn’t think women will notice how he’s thrown them under the bus because he believes that all we think about is where we’re going to get our next birth control pill….which basically says that he thinks we’re all just sluts. At this point, I think it’s just the women married to their ideology who haven’t figured that out yet.

      • EEKman

So the fact that he thinks insurance should cover contraceptives means he thinks you’re “sluts” Wow.

    • Deborah

      Good Point!!!!!

    • http://IKnowBO.com/ Slam1263

I liked the other gals “stone age” response to that.

    • JewishOdysseus

And Biden and Obama have both hid behind women debate moderators, too!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_32KB4BKYYDJW3HMFBV47T7IPYU pragmatic

he also pays his female staffers less than their male counterparts.

    • http://twitter.com/wineplz wineplz

I’m trying to understand what rights she thinks we’ll lose if Romney is elected? The “right” to kill unborn babies will still be there; if Roe/Wade is repealed it just pushes that function to the State level. You will still be able to get birth control, get well-woman visits, cancer screenings, etc. Last I checked, I was able to buy bc pills when Bush was in office; when I was pregnant during the Bush administration I had prenatal care, and I even had a dr. at the practice push me on certain prenatal testing so that I would have enough time to abort in case I got an unsatisfactory test result (I politely informed her that I don’t kill babies and made sure I only saw the other drs for the rest of my prenatal visits).
I don’t get paid less than my colleagues because I’m a woman. I get paid less because I have been with the company less time than they (most have been there several years more than me). If I somehow found out that I was getting paid less than any colleague where we had equal school/work experience and equal work ethic/dedication, then I would simply find another employer that better appreciates me.
From what I understand, I will still be able to vote, hold down a job, drive, go out in public without a male chaperone should Romney win the election. Again…not sure what rights we’re supposed to lose.

    • Bob Richards

      Yeah, she was “undecided”.

      • Finrod Felagund

She was undecided between Obama and the Green Party candidate or the Communist Party candidate.

  • Tony0920

Undecided??? At this point? This is like the friend at your table who takes about 10 min longer than everyone else to order food.

    • AngryConservativeAsianDude

      Damn good analogy.

    • Aestro

About half of them are voters that have known for a while but also want to complain about partisan politics. The other half want to be on tv.

      • hwy505

    • TomJB

One woman did say she decided last night to vote for Romney, changing her mind from not voting at all.

  • mkreider

Obama was spoke very smooooothly, almost like a salesman. People have heard all that before. Romney slammed him on the economy, Benghazi, etc. Obama won slightly on points but I think that at least 3 of the questions were from plants. I think the Luntz group is right on because we have heard all that before from Obama.

    • bluewaternavy

      a snake-oil salesman.

  • nc

Well, in Denver, they didn’t like the “sleepy” Obama, and I guess tonight they didn’t like the “rude” Obama. I would have used the adjective “lying” but that just a given.

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

I grew up on a dairy farm, I recognize BS, there was a lot of fresh steaming cow frisbees being laid by Obama. The lie about oil production, the laughable excuse on the gas prices. Hey, at least after about a month or two, those cow patties can be used for energy, since he will be shutting down coal completely if he gets a 2nd term.

    • EEKman

So: Did the United States produce 14 percent less oil on its public lands last year? Yes.

But there’s nuance in the number. Production under Obama was hobbled due to the Deepwater Horizon disaster, making a one-year figure subject to cherry-picking. And it’s not at all clear that the president in charge when the oil is taken out of the ground deserves full credit or blame; years of prior policies on exploration and drilling had an impact.

On balance, we rate the claim Half True.

  • Tanker74

Luntz’s groups always have a good cross section of people in them. I’m amazed – and pleased – at the number in tonight’s group leaning Romney.

    • Aestro

You’re correct, he’s got Republicans that say they’re Republicans, Republicans that say they’re Democrats, and Republicans that say they’re Independents. A little bit of everyone!

      • TundraThunder

I trust Frank Luntz to have a true cross-section of voters more than any of the lapdog media, like MSNBCrap, for instance.

      • Tanker74

        Ridiculous lie, Asstro.

      • J. Cox

Of course you have verifiable proof of that right?..No?Shocked..not really.

      • Rdm42

All of them were people who voted for Obama the first time around. Pay attention.

      • TomJB

Of course, all Republican! Even the woman who has bought into the lie that ending taxpayer funding of her birth control equates to her being barred from getting it anywhere.

      • bluewaternavy

And CNN had all democrats at Hofstra last night! Possibly including a Code Pink person. I’d trust Luntz faster than any MSM media hack

    • Kate

I like the way Luntz runs his focus groups. I think he does a great job of wording the questions in a neutral way.

  • rascallyrabbit

So hoping the American public is waking up to having the fox in the hen house.

  • hwy505

Crowley admitted that she and the president was wrong on Libya. Mitt should use that in an ad.

    • EEKman

What debate are you listening to? Obama called it a terrorist attack. What was he “wrong” about? Should we have just gone in guns blazing the day after? How long do you think clandestine foreign investigations take? What exactly is your criticism? What would you have done differently?

      • Michael Rice

He was listening to the same debate as everyone else.
Crowley and CNN both admitted that the statement and the Crowley”fact check” were wrong.
What transcript of his speech were you reading? Nowhere in the speech given in teh Rose Garden did he say “this was a terrorist attack”. Nowhere.
That is the point. Yeah, in the debate he may have said it was a terrorist attack, in the speech givn teh day after he did not.
The administration repeatedly referred to it as spontaneous in response to teh film.
WHat part of that is beyond your comprehension?
How does the statment by Craig have anythign to do with a foreign investigation or guns blazing or anythign else?
Did he bumble those things? Oh yeah!!! There was and is nto any clandelstine investigation. The Libyans are/were investgation from the start..WHy would it be in secret?
You are a typical Obama base supporter. No clue.

        • EEKman

From the transcript of the speech he gave in the rose garden the day after the attack:

“No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.”

          Your move idiots.

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.moore.7737 Janet Moore

of course it was “an act of terror” but they made a commercial that cost us lots of money to say it was a spontaneous act caused by that film trailor. The idiots are the ones that hear what they want ot hear and make excuses. 4 people are dead!

      • Wrathful_Brunette

Gone in guns blazing the day after? No. We should have gone in guns blazing IMMEDIATELY. Our embassy was under attack; our nearest base should have scrambled air support and come in on that crowd of terrorists like the Wrath of God.

        • EEKman

Wow youre stupid. Really? Stop watching action movies. Sometimes things are a bit more complex. Hey lets start World War 3! YEAH! ‘MURICA!

          • Wrathful_Brunette

How does defending our embassy from terrorists attacking it with rocket propelled grenades constitute WW III?
            Do tell.

      • elijahzabmom

So why is a man sitting in jail because of a video? Why did the president, sos, and un ambassador talk about a video and a protest?

      • ML438

What debate were you listening to?? Obama claimed to call it a terrorist attack in his September 12 speech in the Rose Garden. Candy Crowley interrupted with a comment that she now admits was wrong. She said Romney was actually correct. If you read what Obama said, he never said it was a terrorist attack. He went on The View within days and never said it was a terrorist attack. He sent his UN Ambassador out to FIVE Sunday news shows to claim it was a “spontaneous attack” caused by the video. Obama spoke before the United Nations and did not call it a terrorist attack.

How long do foreign investigations take? Evidence shows they had real time audio of the attacks and knew within hours that it was a planned terrorist attack. The Libyan president said it was a terror attack from the get go. This has been nothing but lies and a coverup on the part of the Obama Administration because they don’t want to admit that their foreign policy is in shambles.

  • prestoniscrazy

This was a significant focus group… also the MSNBC focus group (that they obviously stuffed) mostly went with Romney.

  • EEKman

What a panel of idiots. If a large swath of the country Is like this then we aren’t going to survive. Ok Twitchers, Why don’t you support the Lily Ledbetter Act? Why does Mitt Romney think Women are second class citizens? Who are the women here? Why would you vote against your own sex? Did you actually hear this guy? What is a “Binder of Women?”

    • grais

If you can’t figure out that he meant ‘binder of women’s resumes’, if you think that conservative women vote against their own sex, if you think Romney thinks women are second class citizens, if you think you understand what the Lily Ledbetter Act is really all about, then you need more help than you can be given here. You’re not paying attention.

      • EEKman

        Really? Whats it all about?
The Ledbetter Act sets the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination to reset with each new paycheck.
Before the clock started ticking at the time the employer decided to discriminate. Normally employers just dont announce to the employee that they are going to be discriminated against.

But please, parrot back what Fox news said about it.

“Blah blah blah! People disagreed with me and that’s not fair! Blah blah blah! I’ll make claims against Mitt Romney, but not provide any examples! Blah blah blah! I’ll ask who the women are here, which is totally not a creepy or stalker-like thing to do in any situation ever! Blah blah blah!”

By the by, I love the irony of a user with the word “man” in the name lecturing women about their gender. Didn’t think that one through, did you?

      • EEKman

Mitt Romney refused to take a position on Lilly Ledbetter when asked. Why?
Why didnt he defend equal pay for equal work in the debate?

  • Rich Davie

This is exactly what America needs at this crucial point in time.

The difference between liberals and conservatives… liberals are selfish individuals and think about nothing but what benefits them and what the democrats will “give to them at no cost” if they continually elect them, whereas conservatives want what’s best for America, because that course of action will benefit all Americans.

Nobody in the press or politics will admit this fact, but that’s what this all boils down to.

It’s a perfect time in history for the Romney campaign to breakout the old John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address speech from January 20, 1961 and use the historic blurb :

Ask not what your country can do for you… ask what you can do for your country.

…and that would be to vote the Obama regime out of our White House.

  • John Svengali

Obama, Biden, Hillary Clinton, Axlerod, Jarrett, Carney and the Obama campaign are conscienceless manipulators, poll and perception driven, unencumbered by adherence to truth, only image. Too many people get fooled, being used by Obama. But many people are coming around and realizing Obama et al will say anything that will be received sympathetically and in line with their goal of keeping power for the left through the calculus of deceit. Lies, truth, truth mixed with lies: it does not matter. All that matters is to win.

These curs must be driven from Washington, shamed for what they are, and prosecuted where applicable.

  • irishgirl91

As much as I don’t understand how anyone fell for “hope and change” , I don’t understand how even one person can be undecided. They couldn’t be more different AND you have the past years to look back on.

  • elijahzabmom

Are there really any true undecided voters? I know apolitical people who are disengaged from the process and not voting. I don’t know anyone who can’t choose between Romney, Obama, or third party.

  • Owen007

“But… but… Obama won the debate!” MSNBC whined.

I think a lot of former Obama voters will be voting Romney this time. They are disappointed with Mr O and his lack of results. I know a vast majority of my friends that are Obama people have jumped ship.
