And now: CNN walks back false “act of terror” fact check

Now, they tells us?

Twitchy told you immediately during tonight’s second presidential debate that President Barack Obama and CNN debate moderator Candy Crowley falsely characterized his Rose Garden statement about Benghazi in front of an audience of millions.

Forceful pushback from social media and the Romney camp has CNN on the run.

Careful, journo-tools! It’s hard to backpedal while carrying Obama’s huge buckets of water.

  • Shadow

When you tell so many “mistakes” it is hard to keep them straight. No wonder they got it wrong.

    • James Atkins

    • thetreyman

There was damage done by Mr. Crowley on this. Maybe an ad of that clip of the debate followed by Mr. Crowley backtracking along with every other media outlet that called bs on it should run in the swing states.

      • Susan Elmore

Mr. Crowley – too funny! She is, afterall, a handsome woman…

        • Just Ask

          Talk about plastic surgery, dang!

          • Mike Gonzalez

Fell off an ugly tree, and hit every branch, on the way down. Methinks Moochelle fell off the same tree.

          • JoH113

            Plastic surgery? Um…it didn’t work…

        • [email protected]

Susan, please see my reply to David, above

      • Nowtoday

There is no clip of Crowley backtracking – because she did not backtrack or make any apology.

listen to the video Obama says it at 1:17

        • Aristotle120

She has a convoluted retraction there. She sort of admits she was wrong.

        • thetreyman

i dont think anyone got that out of that statement at the time. he seemed to be referring to 9-11-01. at the end a reporter asked if this was an act of war, seeming to still think, after the statement, the libyan government might be involved. and we know that for two weeks, when asked if it was terrorism, all he said was we’re investigating. here is a video of two people you will know, from the uber right wing ABC news, discussing the statement and following the narrative that it was spontaneous and because of a video. this is it the full video in context with commentary afterward.

        • Ritchie The Riveter

Straining at a gnat … especially in the light of other Administration statements in the days immediately thereafter.

        • Lynelle Hullsiek

I Read the transcript. He was talking about 2001

          • noway

Then I guess you need to brush up on your reading. You know what today means right?

“Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of
the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to
see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake,
            justice will be done.”

      • davidbrenna

i also think it’s time for all republican candidates and organizations to refuse any interview or questions from the esteemed Ms. Crowley. Black balled for a year might shake some sense into these liberal tools.

        • [email protected]

David, I think using Ms. Crowley and black balled in the same sentence is racist and sexist! Shame on you. (Keep it up!)

          • Jer

Ted, spew alert next time, please. Monitors and keyboards are expensive.

  • Guest

My momma always told me not to take Candy from strangers.

    • T.L. Owens

CANDY??? And how many lies did you tell??? Your boss got caught lying just like you did!!! We can’t believe a word coming from your administration!!!! You acted like my drunk uncle!!!! You being in the WH scares me to death!!!

  • Midnight Cow

Sadly, the audience for this “fact-check of a fact-check” is significantly smaller than the audience that saw Crowley trying to help Obama out of trouble during the debate.

    • James Atkins

Also that saw Obama run for the cover she provided…sad indeed.

      • Gmama

She and Hillary were tag teaming on covering Obama’s skinny ass.

        • Red Blues

They are fighting to save their own necks too.

The sleeping tiger known as the American electorate has been awakened by the shenanigans of the MSM and the WH in the past few years.

The drop in real dollars in wages, higher gas prices, lower growth, steady unemployment, more families on food stamps, the downgrading of the US economy, the printing of dollars and purchase back by the Fed to shore up the lack of bond buyers, the crony capitalism (Solyndra and 100’s of others)… the list is staggering. Even the most low-information voter can see that what is being called a ‘recovery’ is anything but!

Spin (lies) like this will no longer be tolerated or even allowed to be excused after the fact.

The people now have the same tools (video and audio recorders) and the means to distribute (youtube and other social media sites) to a public concerned about this country’s future.

What once was the exclusive domain of the media titans are now in the hands of the American public. The spinmeisters are profiling and outlining their own demise and will take the progs down with them – yet neither can clearly see the writing on the wall. Time to send the progressive movement to the ash-heap of history with the other failed ideologies that run contrary to the values of most Americans.

          • fudog73

what you fail to realize is that once a liberal always a liberal

          • Not true, Red. I’m a recovering liberal. I voted for Carter and Clinton, and thought Reagan was the Antichrist. Thank God I had my Road to Damascus epiphany and the scales fell from my eyes!

          • Red Blues

Hey Tater, welcome to the club!

I voted for Carter but four years of that and I realized that the left was not being honest about their intentions. Have voted right of center every time since and have no regrets.

It does take time to recover from the pablum they spoon feed the masses but it can be done . God bless!

        • Youxia88

Obama threatened Hillary’s family if she didn’t.

      • GTFOBigGovt

        RIGHT! What a wimp. Embarassing.

    • vetgal1970

The next debate is all foreign policy. Romney will be able to revisit this and now it has been PRE fact checked. Obama will be unable to dispute it and he will have no skirt to hide behind.

      • Judith Lewis

Excellent point. Wish I’d thought of it.

        • vetgal1970

        • Clyde L Trent

          Me also :)

      • Wishsong

Can’t wait to see the look on D’Won’s face when Romney slaps him with that fact check.

      • tucsondon

Don’t be surprised if there is a drone strike in Libya or nearby to “retaliate” against the evil terrorists before next Monday’s debate. That will show that Obama is large and in charge and act to diffuse Romney from “politicizing” Libya. Evil incarnated, this bunch.

        • falcon7204

I said the same thing to my wife last night. And it’ll be against the “perps” who were “outed” by the Muslim Brotherhood. Their way of saying, oops, we screwed up, we just meant to kidnap the Ambassador, not kill him, here are some sacrificial lambs to make up for it.

But the strike will fail. As does everything else Obama touches.

          • Sebastian Baraldi

really? like the bin laden killing?

          • Guest

Due to Bush’s waterboarding tactics that Obama disagreed with. . .

          • falcon7204

Gee, didn’t know Oblabla was a member of Seal Team 6.

          • Nancy A Bell

Did any of us SEE bin Laden’s body???????

        • Peddler

I totally agree with your comment about a drone strike in Libya. When it happens and if it is before the next debate, maybe Romney should ask Obama the following question.

Mr. President, you blamed the attack and death of the ambassador and three other Americans on a video trailer for over two weeks. Now, after constant denial and prevarication, within a few short weeks, you have been able to identify the attackers, isolate them and take them out with a drone strike. How is it possible to be in a complete state of denial one moment and in the next, have all of the intelligence necessary to punish the attackers if you had to take as much time as you claimed to “get all of the facts”?”

I suspect the response will then be as follows: “Mr. Romney, we knew from the beginning it was a terrorist attack and yes, we did lead the public to believe it was a spontaneous demonstration over a video that got out of hand. We did that to allow the Libyan’s enough time to identify the people responsible so we could use a drone attack to extract justice for our embassy people’s death. So you see, it was in keeping with my plan all along. Tell the people enough lies long enough and you can implement your plans with a perfectly acceptable explanation they will accept. Why the hell do you thing I have been lying to the public all this time anyway? Once the election is over and I am re-elected, then you will see what my real plans for this colonialist country really are.”

        • vetgal1970

He can do it if he wants, it wouldn’t break my heart. BUT that doesn’t undo the damage that was done by marching all over advancing the video story. Until he goes in front of all the world and defends our First Amendment, it doesn’t mean squat.

        • cscape

yeah….. on the very DAY of the DEBATE…. that day (Monday, October 22nd) is the 50th anniversary of JFK addressing the nation on the Cuban Missile Crisis…. the MEDIA will have an ORGASM with the comparison…… these people will stop at NOTHING to keep their “Toddler Prince” in power!

        • hbnolikeee

He’s a real he-man. He can order a missile launched from half way around the world. Wow wee what a stud.

          • Red Blues

And I can order a pizza and have it at my door in 15 minutes…

which is about how much concern Obama puts into foreign policy. Sadly, Ambassador Chris Stevens is still unavailable for comment…

        • wakefield42

time to bomb an aspirin factory

      • Youxia88

Wanna bet? Next debate will be even MORE biased CNN planned this with O camp for months.

    • lagr08

      my thoughts exactly

    • Deborah White

Correct. By the time the truth is proven, the lies have already taken root in the minds of listeners, which is the agenda. Tell a lie today, by tomorrow, no one is paying attention.

      • kathy jones

You know back in my day it was known as hiding behind a womens skirts. thank you Hillary and Candy

      • Wishsong

Fortunately, it seems like the first debate is the most important, and Romney pulled in a lot of independent voters by being the adult in the room.

    • Christopher Smith

Presidents don’t need help from newswomen. Americans know this.

      • YeahWeWill

Yeah; They shouldn’t but apparently Obama does!

    • Evi L. Bloggerlady
    • Slam1263

I really have to ask; why did Ms. Crowley have transcripts of the “Rose Garden Speech”?
Was this coordinated with the Obama camp, “Louder please, Candy”, just like they did in practice?

      • Corey Dennison

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

    • lovejazz

“FAT CHECK” Crowley belongs in a zoo!!

  • redheadgrl

Is Anderson becoming a real journalist?

    • James Atkins

IMHO, he has always been pretty respectable when it comes to objectivity. I have always noticed he basically treats both sides the same, but again, this is just my opinion

    • William

He is coming out of the closet as a journalist #crackmyselfup

    • Nell

Unlikely, but with all the pushback from Twitchy and the public with the truth, he probably felt he had to come out and say that…. otherwise CNN would look stupider than it already does… if that is at all possible.

    • Darth_Slacker_

I know he’s Gay & apparently worked for the CIA??… Maybe Journalist was his “Cover story”….wait, he was glorified on the cover of “RollingStone” once – he’s a totally In The Tank Leftist

    • Kurt Joe Wittman

I think he might be! He keeps bringing up facts and challenging these folks. I always kinda liked him – I’m likin’ him more every day.

      • lagr08

careful…false objectivity is something they use when desperate to lure you back in.

        • Red Blues

or they are intent on being able to have access to the halls of power after Nov 6th. They will be out a job if they cannot report on the inside scoop and they know it. Watch for their reports to get more and more centrist as Romney’s polling numbers continue to surge. Can see this coming from a mile away.

    • pcimarron

If that’s the case he’ll be checking into rehab tomorrow…repeat to yourself, I’m a liberal, I’m a liberal

  • K.KING

Leave it to Obama to mislead the people again and he had help from Crowley this time before it was Susan Rice helping.

  • Joe Biden

Too bad more people don’t watch CNN

    • [email protected]

Too bad you are a strange man ,Obama’s lap dog

    • Mary Bunnell

Candy retracted her agreeing with the President, and why did she block for Obama when she is suppose to be a narrator not a partisan for the President?

    • Carol Knoderer Vadnais

      Fox for the TRUTH-

  • baller444

I give Crowley credit for admitting she was wrong, now it’s Obama’s turn.

    • Melody Harper

I give Crowley credit for nothing but being a partisan hack!

      • baller444

You’re right I retract my credit for Crowley because she SHOULD HAVE KNOWN that Obama LIED about it being a terrorist attack back then and blaming it on the obscure YouTube video. She buckled under the pressure to Obama when he asked her to check the transcript.

    • James Atkins

Not me, I give here no points. One could argue that both sides play fast and loose with facts, but she chose to insert herself into this particular narrative and I believe it is simply because it is current events and is the single most troubling thing to Obama right now so close to the election.

    • Laneta Campbell

I disagree….she’s not stupid….she KNEW it was incorrect when she said it! But the lie was told while millions were watching. These same millions will be no longer paying attention later….the damage is done. Journalistic malpractice at its worst.

      • Ritchie The Riveter

WE don’t have to sit idly by and let it stand. ‘Splain it to your friends.

    • zoe ross

I don’t think she admitted it. It was Cooper, right? She had absolutely ZERO business speaking up in the first place, even if she had been right. She was grossly overstepping the bounds of a moderator in a shameless attempt to help out one side, which means basically, she was cheating for him.

  • Bunni

THis bimbo should be fired over this, but she’ll probably be given a raise!
Great work, Twitchy team. I knew it was a BIG FAT LIE the minute I heard it out of his mouth too. Also the insane way he acted trying to push the lie was a giveaway.

Someone needs to record this moment when CNN encores their post-debate coverage later. What was everyone’s reaction? After Wolf Blitzer himself said “We stick by that” and their fact check guy affirming it.

    • vetgal1970

It’s a sad day when we have to fact check the candidates AND the moderator

  • Jonathan Mark Anders

Better yet, when is the next time we are going to see a debate moderated by somebody other than these lapdogs for Obama and the democratic party?

    • we__the__people

Never, as long as a leftist democrat is running for office.

    • IPreferTeaOverKoolAid

In the next debate we need Bill O’Reilly or Megyn Kelly as the moderator. We’ve had THREE (including the VP debate) Left/Liberal leaning moderators. This time around we need a right/conservative leaning moderator. :-)

      • Lynne Mikulka

who picks the moderator, bad enough Obama owns the news

      • vetgal1970

NOT O’Reilly, he is too submissive when he is face to face with Obama. I like Megyn Kelly she is good at calling bull when she sees it. Why not Brett Baier? Obama hates him, so he must ask good questions.

        • lagr08

I think Oreilly is respectful of the office…but something tells me he’d mmake Obama squirm like the worm he is these days.

        • Nadine Faber

Yes, Brett Baier would be the best choice. He is fair and would restate the questions, make sure they didn’t dodge them like obama did on many of them tonight. Romney got off a couple of times and kind of answered the questions, but not completely. obama walked around the very first question and never answered it at all.

          • Matt Arnold

Mark Levin has given an enthusiastic “thumbs up” to Brett Baier on his (talk radio) program, so Baier is good with me (as long as a few submitted questions from C. Krauthammer and S. Hannity also get asked during that debate “scenario”).

      • lagr08

You will never see a conservative moderator…heck, you’ll never see a moderate moderator.

      • Nell

I don’t think either O’Reilly or Kelly are particularly right leaning. I’d rather see Sean Hannity or Brett Baier as moderator.

        • Kevin Krom

Dunno about Kelly, but O’Reilly is a moderate populist, not a conservative of any stripe.

          • Corey Dennison

Exactly right. I grew tired of Bill’s schtick years ago. He’s not a conservative inasmuch as he’s an “O’Reilly-tive.” It’s all about him taking whichever stance allows him to be the most self-righteous.

      • Mr. Fever Head

        Britt Hume

        • Red Blues

that would be a great choice.

Britt’s been a great reporter and anchor since his days in Chicago (local nbc affiliate, I think?)

Anyone without all the liberal baggage would be better than the last three… and is it me or are the moderators getting worse with each debate?

    • stacy_e

I’d like to see Charles Krauthammer or Mark Levin moderate a debate. I think either of those men would be at least be fair to both candidates.

      • ArnoldLayne

        Mark Levin, please God!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Tom Ellis

and how long before little barry would be crying and throwing a tantrum… mr president just answer the question!!!
oh forget it, elminate the middle man, how about Mark for POTUS

          • Matt Arnold

Amen, I second the motion! Kick the “Ameritopia” out of Obama and Levinitize the Nation!

          • Lynelle Hullsiek

            R u on YT? I think I follow u

        • Ritchie The Riveter

I can hear it now … “GET OFF THE STAGE, YOU BIG DOPE!”

          • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

          • Patricia Corwin

          • Red Blues

            dang it Ritchie!

          • Youxia88

          • lainer51

        • Timothy Crenshaw

Actually if I could get divine intervention the person I would choose as moderator would be Michelle Malkin. No obfuscating allowed!

          • Pamela F Gallant

            Great idea!!!

      • Raymond Boettner

        Krauthammer would be great

        • tool_mann2

Sharp wit and a quick tongue…call in Megan Kelly. I’d even pay to watch that dog and pony show!

        • VAMOM2

Love me some Charles K! He always seems to hit the nail square on the head when it comes to this administration and it’s lies and spin tactics.

          • Jonathan Mark Anders

Absolutely! IMO he’s about the closest thing to the late William F. Buckley with his commentary. The liberals in the press and in the democratic party would never allow a Mark Levin or Rush Limbaugh to moderate a debate. It would be funny though to be in a press room with wall-to-wall libs and have somebody step up to the mike and announce that one of those guys would be moderating the next debate. It would be like Dracula coming face to face with the sunrise. lol!

      • Setona Barbara

        That is a fantastic idea!!

    • Linda Dunaway Taylor

Never. It was set up at the get go to have his shills as moderators.

    • Henry Felter

I think the Media themselves select the moderators. Since the press votes 90% for the Demos, this is all you’ll get

    • [email protected]

Jonathan, probably when Obama takes off his Allah ring, genuflects before a cross, and prays forgiveness.

    • orringtonmom (D)

i think chuck woolery should do it like a game show. pull questions out of a hat, spin a wheel, speed round with a buzzer. anything would be better.

    • wolfie773

There are only 315 million people in the country. How do you expect them to find someone?

      • Timothy Crenshaw

Michelle Malkin would happily volunteer. :)

    • JoH113

It would be nice to see a Levin-moderated debate (and no more townhall-style idiocy) in 2016 when Romney runs for his second term

  • chrisc72

Sadly damage was already done. But those who believe it are already Obamazombies.

    • we__the__people

You’re right. Those of us that care enough to find out the truth, already knew it was false. Those that don’t, won’t be convinced anyway.

      • Nowtoday

If it’s true than why is Obama clearly calling it an “act of terror” listen to the video at 1:17

Further more Crowley has not made any apology and Anderson Cooper has not made any statement.

        • Ritchie The Riveter

No, he says that “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation” … in the context of 9/11 and its aftermath. That is the ONLY use of the word “terror” in the entire statement.

That is NOT calling what happened to Ambassador Stevens and three Americans an “act of terror” … especially in the light of the Administration continuing to blame the film for several days AFTER this statement was made.

We now know that the film had nothing to do with this terrorist attack.

You are straining at gnats … just like the President. It’s the only thing he has to fall back on in this debate.

        • Corey Dennison

          Spam alert.

        • Red Blues

@Nowtoday – pull your head out of your backside… it’s obviously effecting your hearing and cognitive functions. Care to retract or revise that statement?

  • NoGuff

The problem is the gum-chewing masses who don’t read or listen to analysis of events, only the headlines, will remember that Mitt Romney was told he was wrong on Libya. So, agenda fulfilled.

    • James Atkins

True, but this could be a headline for a few days to at least mitigate it somewhat; I dare to dream, Lol.

    • Jules

Wrong about Obama saying it was terror then jetting off to Vegas? Hehehee

      • Kate

If you think about it, Obama looks bad either way. Say he did call it an act of terror (which we all know is false)- it looks very unpresidential and cowardly to run off to Vegas and the late-night circut. If he didn’t, that also speaks volumes of his softness on our enemies and his incompetence.

    • Ritchie The Riveter

Not if we remind them that Romney was actually right.

  • louisiana_mom

She knew it was a lie when she said it! All she cared about was covering for Obama’s incompetence… No wonder CNN viewership is at an all time low.

    • vetgal1970

Do you suppose it is sheer coincidence that TRP broke on the evening of another presidential debate?

      • louisiana_mom

I thought the same thing! Once is a coincidence, twice is a conspiracy! LOL!

        • vetgal1970

Tin foil hat firmly in place 😉

          • louisiana_mom

Mine too. Good night, vetgal, maybe we’ll be up tomorrow! God bless.

          • vetgal1970

            ‘night, God Bless you too

          • Nowtoday

There was no apology. This is a lie. See the video at 1:17

          • Ritchie The Riveter

Straining at a one-word, out-of-context gnat … especially in the light of other Administration statements in the days immediately thereafter..

          • Corey Dennison

Stop spamming the same damn post over and over please.

      • Stephanie Snyder Staker

TRP? Did I miss something? Pls advise.

        • louisiana_mom

The Right Planet, a Conservative web site we visit, it seems to be down tonight. Sorry, for any confusion…

  • Steve R

Whatever…..I watched that rose garden (non) press conference, listened to the Presidents ridiculous tale about what happened in Libya, a tale that was repeated for two weeks. If he thinks he ‘won’ based on this technicality, well than we are just back to arguing about what the definition of IS is again.

    • zoe ross

Next debate is the foreign policy debate & it’s not this town hall style, it’s regular. If Romney doesn’t hammer this away, he is crazy.

    • Red Blues

yes, I was curious and watched the rose garden presser to see what the administration was saying. The ‘acts of terror’ line was definitely in reference to September the 11th of 2001!

After listening, I thought, really? Am I the only one on the planet who knew that the terrorists have a penchant for numbers and symbolism? The 11th anniversary of 9/11? Too good for them to pass up and with all the hype after the DNC convention about how “Osama’s dead and the terrorists are in decline!” Talk about being clueless…

  • Selina Grissom

Crowley was right, and Romney was wrong: In his September 12 remarks,
the president said: “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of
this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the
values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who
represent the very best of the United States of America.” Despite this,

“Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we
marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the
families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who
made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed
grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you
and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last
night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.

As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only
sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to
stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our

        • PerceiveToBeWise

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t have Obama winning the point on a technicality without losing on the obvious fact then that the administration lied.

So to clarify – the day Obama said the quote above in the Rose Garden (9/12) and for the rest of the week until the weekend the papers never had any headline that Obama states Terrorist Committed Terrorist Attack. It didn’t happen. Obama’s statement was taken by the media, which is “clued in” to Obama’s message and meaning by Obama’s official spokesmen, that this was over a tape and a riot both of which were not true. Then all afternoon the following Sunday the US UN Ambassador spoke on talk show after talk show and proclaimed the attack was over a tape which if Obama wins the point on a technicality becomes an obvious known lie told by the US UN Ambassador the following Sunday. Obama loses another debate. Crowley barred from moderating any other debate for life and begins life as a left wing commentator on CNN.

    • Ksmith934Smith

Even Candy Crowley said she wrong.

    • Myron

Obama said in the RG speech: “Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects
all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of
others.” – Why would he say this unless he either believed, or wanted
to imply that the video was the cause of the attack? Any violence can
be labelled as terrorism but the point is that this was a preplanned al
qaeda attack and not some demonstration that devolved into a violent
attack, which is the line the Obama administration had been pushing for
      two weeks.

    • Laneta Campbell

You come to late to defend this one…. “Mama” Crowley has already had to admit she was wrong, CNN has already back peddled too….

    • C.J. Rugaard

You have the quote right, so re-read it. It does NOT say that the attack was an act of terror. It was just a statement about acts of terror in general. Obama continued to duck and dodge for two weeks the truth I suspect he knew all along.

    • Catchance

Hmmm… well, if he thought it was an act of terror 24 hours later, why did he send his ambassador out 4 days later to say that it wasn’t? Why did he go on Letterman and say that we just don’t know?

      • Red Blues

Well, Cathy, that would be called ‘lying’.

If it can be proven that Candy Crowley *knowingly* lied as well, then that would be called ‘conspiracy’.

She does *not* have the defense of ‘mis-speaking’ – she’s not an elected official who holds public office. That’s why she walked the story back so quickly after the debate ended. The video of her being questioned by Anderson Cooper was on the web within 20 or 30 minutes afterwards.

  • Taryn

  • Tony0920

To me the technicality is sublime. It proves by use of the word terror in the rose garden, POTUS hoped to placate, truly knowing FROM THAT MOMENT it was indeed an act of terrorism and for almost two weeks blaming the video, as the ultimate excuse otherwise. In that sense he could later state that Taliban was on its heels, while never actually admitting the consulate attack was terrorism until the jig was factually up. That’s exactly why he was so quick to say “check the transcript”. He knew he had covered his ass. Like Mr. Romney, I also raised boys. Sly devil.

act of terror, after elucidating some potential causes of the terrorist
attack? Of course faith would be one legitimate reason that terrorists
(September 11th 2001 or WHENEVER) may have desire to attack the US. He
explicitly states that this or any other reason would not be
justification for the attack. Simply elucidating faith as a potential
reason for the attack does NOT automatically mean he is asserting that
the attack came from citizen protesters!

    • PerceiveToBeWise

Voice of Reason – I will give you that point if you then admit the administration deliberately deceived the public by the US UN Ambassador Susan Rice with her lies on talk show after talk show the following Sunday. Yet, a week later the story is being spun “its over a video” it was a riot when the facts are clearly now already known on the night the Ambassador to Libya was murdered. You may win the battle on a technical point but regardless of that point the war is lost due to the Administration using deception and knowingly perpetrating a deception to be perceived as the truth from the public though the truth the public perceived would be knowingly seen as a lie. ESPECIALLY when Candy was jumping in with WRONG facts that backed the presidents WRONG and misleading words. Great job, Candy…..NOT.

  • Aestro

It was unprofessional of Crowley to jump in on that, especially given that that was her only point of intervention. Apart from that incident, I thought she did a good job, especially given how aggressive both candidates were.

I think there’s a separate discussion to be had about whether or not Obama intended to call the attack an “act of terror”, or perhaps whether it even MATTERS whether he called it an “act of terror” the day after it occurred, before everyone was clear on what happened. Not that it matters, since it’s election time and those will fall on party lines anyway.

So, was Obama lying tonight when he said he knew it was an act of terror that first day (and then sent his staff out to lie about it); or, was he lying before when he said it was caused by a video when he knew it was a terror attack? Which is it?

  • Aristotle120

Kudos to Anderson Cooper. While I have no doubt where his political sympathies lie, he has recently shown a refreshing tendency to try not to be 100% in the tank for Obama–just 75%. Progess for CNN.

  • PurpAv

    When you lose Anderson Cooper…

  • DanOfOmaha

Why is the moderator entering the argument? It’s bad enough that she introduces bias while trying to control the debate. Now she’s taking sides on an issue.

  • citizenrich

The curious case of Anderson Cooper: a fair minded person must admit that Mr. Cooper has presented himself as very fair minded recently.

Quick anecdote: Mr. Cooper and I are neighbors and the occasion or three where I’ve interacted with him have been normal and nice.

He’s a native (real) New Yorker as am I and I guess he’s a straight shooter. Pun intended.

  • pscully17

Romney next debate; has Holder apologized to Brian Terry family? Nope! Obama , you’re Mideast policy is,a total disaster! Mideast on total anarchy! Russia, China, and Iran treat you like a girl! Afghan, Pakistan are killing our soldiers daily! Oil is way too high, and you’ve given billions to Brazil to drill their oil, and promised we’d be their best customer!! Every Israel hates, you!

    Obama / Crowley2012

  • Manuel Little

Because Obama used the word “act of terror” purposefully instead of the phrase “act of terrorism”, he is being misleading. When we go see a “terror” movie it has nothing to do with the guerrilla concept of “terrorism”. An “ism” is a philosophy. “Terror” is simply the emotion of fright. By using the word “terror” instead of the word “terrorism”, Obama could pivot on that later as he chooses. Problem is, Obama also used the word “senseless” act of terror, and had he not used that word, “terror” could indeed mean “terrorism”. A senseless act of terror is not premeditated, as surely an act of terrorism certainly is. Also, Obama was not talking about Benghazi, so he is himself confused by his own rhetoric and asked to refer to the script of his declaration from the White House “Rose Garden”. Lies and vagueness for the purpose of misleading people have a way of catching up to us. Obama is fried! And he claims he is transparent…

    • ********

He is transparent. I can see clear through to his fraudulent … entirety???

  • Robert Perrigo

This is a major screw up by the moderator because she should not have entered the debate and certainly not with this big lie. Clearly the Obama administration went on for weeks about the video.

  • gman

  • Pingston

Ironically, the CNN/ORC poll overwhelmingly showed Romney the most ready to be President:
58% to 40% in Romney’s favor on the economy,
49% to 46% in Romney’s favor on health care,
51% to 44% in Romney’s favor on taxes,
59% to 36% in Romney’s favor on the deficit

    • Corey Dennison

I know…their cognative dissonance is amazing…with all the above results, they still say Obama won on points. How?

  • Tracy Lettau Racich

While it would be refreshing to see a debate moderated by a Bret Baier or Brit Hume, I love that the left KNOWS the moderator is helping them and they STILL self destruct! Looking forward to the next one!

Holy crap people, look I’m still riding the fence here on who will be my vote, but no one can put themselves in the shoes of our current president and know the details and behind the scene discussions of just how the events went down in Libya. Don’t you think that there might have been the need for some fact checking on how and why it happened? We’re talking about the relationship with yet another middle-eastern country at stake here. Give the guy and his cabinet a break for wanting to know all the absolute facts and details. You don’t think in his mind he knew it was an act of terrorism? Duh…… So what if it wasn’t proclaimed to the world.

    • redheadgrl

Michael, if they were waiting on the “absolute facts and details”, then why where they out blaming an obscure YouTube video from day one? They could have declined to blame the video, and clearly stated they were conducting a full-on investigation. However, that is not what Mr. Obama, Hillary, or Rice did.

    • Corey Dennison

Actually…yes we can. And we can do it by taking the administration at their own words. Watch their story morph over several weeks from “it was a spontaneous attack from a protest over a video” — to: “there was no protest outside the consulate…the attack was pre-planned by al Qaeda, and ‘video…what video?’ We didn’t say anything about any video!'”

  • LuscombeFlyer

Candy Crowley, you deliberately broke the rules of the debate, you stepped in to rescue Obama from the most dangerous moment of the evening. Romney was correct, Obama was lying, you were wrong, YOU eff’ed up the debate. Own it!

  • Sistervative

Why the heck did the “unbias” moderator interject to then later say Romney was right. Her goal was to stop Romney’s momentum, and, unfortunately, it worked regarding that topic. So, Obama needs a moderator to help fight his fights.

What’s going on with Anderson Cooper? He’s been acting somewhat like a journalist lately. Since around late August, he’s been calling out the propaganda on his own network (although he did walk back his initial criticism of Crowley last night, like you said). Did he have an aneurysm over the summer, or something?

    • TomJB

He is just hedging his bet in case he wants to interview a potential President Romney. Look for other “journalists” to follow suit soon; they will still want Obama, and do what they can, but just won’t be as obvious about it.

    • Fungi2bewith

Those of us that have been paying attention to the Libya debacle knew it was a lie, and those that haven’t been paying attention don’t care anyway. This lie changes nothing, and confirms that Obama and the lapdog media as desperate liars for all to see. It’s a negative for Obama that they did this. They can’t help but participate in their own self-destruction.

  • Owen007

I sense a new ad developing, as well as yet another headache for Obama.

  • we__the__people

Romney criticized the apologetic tone of the statement that came from the Embassy.

  • ObamaPelosi

There is a bigger point that I’m not sure most people caught, but this is very important. It began when Romney asked Obama if he said that the Benghazi attack was an act of terror in the Rose Garden. Here is the transcript of exactly what was said:
    1. ROMNEY: I think interesting the president just said something which is that on the day after the attack he went into the Rose Garden and said that this was an act of terror.
    2. OBAMA: That’s what I said.
    3. ROMNEY: You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack, it was an act of terror? It was not a spontaneous demonstration, is that what you’re saying?
    4. OBAMA: Please proceed governor.
    5. ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror.
    6. OBAMA: Get the transcript.
    7. CROWLEY: It — it — it — he did in fact, sir. So let me — let me call it an act of terror…
    8. OBAMA: Can you say that a little louder, Candy?
    9. CROWLEY: He — he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take — it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that.
Everyone. please look at number 4 and number 6. When Romney asks Obama if he’s saying it’s not a spontaneous demonstration, Obama says, “Please proceed governor.” Then while Mitt Romney continues to speak, Obama basically orders Candy Crowley to “Get the transcript”. What the heck is that???? Looks like Obama knew that Candy would back him up on this and he ordered her to “get the transcript”? Whereafter, Crowley says he did say it was an act of terror. Well, that has been debunked by John Nolte. It was nothing but semantics. Obama is so brazen. I think Crowley definitely gave Obama the topics to be discussed. Obama was too prepared for these questions. When he relied on Crowley to “Get the Transcript” that showed indisputably that Obama and Crowley were in on this together. This is a scandal and must be rooted out and must be known to everyone. This debate was a setup and Obama cheated with the help of Candy Crowley. Please pass this along.

    • Mic Jagger

He was telling Romney to get the transcripts

      • Corey Dennison

And yet Ms. Crwoley had them at her immediate disposal. Strange, no?

  • Joe Brindley

I think Dennis Prager would be a good moderator or Simon Cowell.

  • Half Man Half Amazing

Ok I want to say something. Who cares about the comments. What we care about are jobs, keeping our homes and gas prices, alternate forms of energy. Stop dwelling on if he meant what he said or not about the attack. Focus on what really matters. So is this whole debate you have to feel the presidents apology. Folks get off your rockers and lets discuss real issues. My vote is not gonna depend on an apology for the libya situation. My vote depends on who can get this country on the right track. Thats all.

  • Ray Harbin

If lies were illegal and justice pursued–Obama would get 6 life sentences for last night alone. Crowley’s performance was not far remove from that we’d from any other liberal Demo such as Pelosi. Where was Crowley’s dedication to fact, as Obama knowingly
threw 11 lies into America’s face?

    • Fungi2bewith

My drinking game was to take a slug of Jack Daniels every time Obama said “that is untrue” to Romney.

It’s obvious who Candy’s voting for. She went so far as to lie for him. And Romney is such a congenial person … but his expression said it all. Yes, new Mr. President Romney, I heard what she said, and I can’t believe it, either.

  • rob247

Doesn’t matter. All Obama had to do was say it. It has been fact-checked almost immediately in Romney’s favor, but the media and Obama know Americans are a forgetful bunch. This will be an anti-Romney ad by Saturday.

when do we get a conservative moderator…. we’ve been double teamed for the third time now….. Gees!

  • heatherGirl

many things can be called an “act of terror”…… If the event was an out of control mob only that would still be an “act of terror”.
A terrorist attack is something different. Just becuase an event is an act of terror does not mean it was done by terrorist!
Obama is playing with words here. If he truly meant to say in the Rose garden that this was a terrorist attack, then why did he go to the UN and blame it on a video? Why did his press spokesperson blame it on a video? Why did his UN Ambassidor blame it on a video?

    • Fungi2bewith

Perfect answer. Nothing left to be said.
This should be copied & pasted on every blog & article commentary. Wow!

  • Mackie

Crowley interrupted Romney 28 times and Obama only 9 times. She gave Obama 3 more minutes of speaking time. Crowley also violated the town hall rule by backing Obama’s false assertion that he called the Benghazi attack a terrorist attack in the Rose Garden 24 hours later. Crowley would apologize 30 minutes after the debate after realizing what she had done. I think Romney was so stunned by Crowley inserting herself into Obama’s lie that he failed to respond to it.

  • Bruce Copeland
  • Byron Shutt

This was an obvious pre-planned exchange. Crowly injecting herself into the debate by asking a question of Obama about Clinton taking the blame….allowing him to be the man and take responsibilty. When Romney challanges him on what he said in the rose garden about being ‘an act of terror’ Obama looks at Crowley and asks her to check the transcript. She agrees with him right away…..How did she know what was coming? And to be incorrect about it is disgraceful. I am still waiting for the reason, even if he ‘thinks’ what he said was true, why he went on for over two weeks lieing to the American people about what happened? Crowly should be scewed for this.

  • mr_charlie

the debate was a disgusting exhibition of CNN’s, Crowely’s and the media in general bias against romney and conservative thinking

  • Jose Rodriguez

The check mate has come for Obama………..The Rose Garden Libya lie caught in front of 50 million people………………..This Libya problem is not going to go away, and no political hack is going to be able to excuse this one……………….The nail is in the coffin of Obama’s regime, and time is ticking away……………..tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock……………………..

  • InvictusLux

What a PATHETIC debate. Ms “CANDY”, who looked & acted like a “take no prisoners” ass end of a Mac-Truck on steroids was TOTALLY in the tank for Obama. To even permit herself to be called by OBAMA as a judge and jury for what he said in the 9-12 Rose Garden statement was just obscenely out of order. Who the HELL does Ms. Candy think she is acting like she is a supreme court judge ruling in favor of Obama? The truth is that OBAMA LIED through his teeth and tried to cover up a terrorist attack on our embassy by framing it as an understandable outrage by Muslims to that “disgusting” U-tube video (“the future must not belong to those who insult the prophet Muhammad”). God help us. Are we in a real civil war or is lying and pandering just the “new normal” for the sleaze level of this country now??? I want my culture back – the America I grew up in where we were all Americans and got along. The class warfare that Obama started MUST STOP. Feminist like Ms. Candy need to – get the hell out of national TV and get a life.

    • Fungi2bewith

Class Warfare will lead to riots in the streets if Romney wins. The looters and the takers are mobile now and will not be satisfied looting their own neighborhood. Prepare to feed and protect your family.

  • Salmon Diego

I thought this was the line big gaff by Obama. It seems to be going under the radar.

QUESTION: We were sitting around, talking about Libya, and we were reading and became aware of reports that the State Department refused extra security for our embassy in Benghazi, Libya, prior to the attacks that killed four Americans.

Obama:So as soon as we found out that the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team and I gave them three instructions. Number one, beef up our security and procedures, not just in Libya, but at every embassy and consulate in the region.

The question was about reports that the ambassador had requested extra security in the past and it had not been provided. Obama admits he didn’t provide extra security until after the attack took place (and the ambassador was dead). Literally closing the barn door after the horse had escaped.

Obama never did answer the question about why security wasn’t beef up previous to the attack, at the time the ambassador requested it.

    • Fungi2bewith

He also didn’t answer the other specific questions.
The one from the larger black gentleman. The one from the grey haired man who had a question from the office group. He just answered using talking points. Didn’t matter if they fit, even…

Mitt was caught trying to pounce and was called out. He said “let’s get this on the record” and was so sure that President didn’t say the word “terror.” As to what context he took is up for debate but he did use the word. Live in your Faux News world and sites like this world all you want but he was claiming that the word wasn’t said…. He got caught spilling bullcrap now y’all are trying to spin it however it takes to make YOU feel good… Ha

    • Corey Dennison

Sorry Mic…the facts are against you…and apparently President Obama and Ms. Crowley. Deal with it.

One more thing: didn’t you find it suspiciously convenient that Ms. Crowley would happen to have the transcript instantly available upon the President’s request last night? It’s almost as if they expected this little eventuality. This is what Collusion looks like.

  • Mamawolf2000

I just sat here and listened to the President’s speech again and he most certainly DID mention an act of terror. Now if you want to really get down to the truth…. in the hours and days following the attack, everyone thought it was a spontaneous act of terror due to an incendiary video. That INCLUDES Mitt Romney… I also listened to Mitt’s 8 min. 53 second “speech”. For a little over a minute he offered his condolences, and prayers etc. From around 2 mins. on all he did was attack the President and then took questions, where he spittered and sputtered and tried to answer every question with a jab at the president! He criticized the President for comments made by the embassy and said his response was inappropriate. The only thing inappropriate was Mitt taking a so-called speech of sympathy and turning it into a campaign clip!!!!!! And he’s going around telling people it took the President 14 days to call this an act of terror, when it’s right there on YouTube for all to hear, that the only one who gave a speech and NEVER mentioned an act or terror or terrorism WAS MITT ROMNEY!!!! Go listen for yourselves!!!!!

    • Eliza Smith

He said “acts of terror cannot go unpunished” and did not specifically refer to Benghazi as a terrorist attack (he called the terrorists “attackers” and “killers”, never “terrorists”..that’s a specific choice). More importantly, though, isn’t it just as bad if the day after he calls it terrorism, then the next week says it’s the fault of certain Americans and their incendiary videos?? Or if he knew it was terrorism and didn’t send the FBI to investigate for several DAYS, allowing CNN to obtain Amb Stevens’ journal before Obama’s team even got on the ground? Or that he said “boo, acts of terror” and then forgoes intelligence briefings over the next two days to campaign? But ok, I suppose if that’s the tack you want to take, run with it.

    • Fungi2bewith

And US Inteligence had real time audio & video of what was happenning. They knew & had ready for POTUS the facts of the terrorist attack within 24 hours.
Why were we told for 2 weeks by Hillary and the UN Ambassador that it was all about the video?

  • zencycler

    Obama’s Benghazi Lies

WHAT DOES JAY Z THINK OF ALL THIS? Or for that matter…David Letterman?

  • michael s

Romney the NRA endorsed one said on the assault weapons question its illegal to own automatic weapons. WHAT A LIAR. In most states you as a civilian can own an automatic weapon ..How come you fact checkers didn’t pick that up
Where is BOOM ZING and all those other Batman words you love to use now? How did all you 2nd amendment conservatives miss that?

    • nytflyr

it IS illegal to own automatic weapons and has been since the passage of the National Firearms Act of 1934, unless you have a permit/license

      • michael s

Yes you must have a class 3 license an a batf tax stamp. Therefore YOU CAN OWN A AUTOMATIC WEAPON ,as long as its made before 1986. So Romney outright lied. I guess Batman words are only to ne used when Pres Obama is incorrect.

        • Corey Dennison

I think you mean to say “Full-Automcatic weapon.” Automatic weapons fall into 2 classes:

          1) Semi-automatic (One trigger pull –> One round expended), which are fully legal and relatively inexpensive at present
          2) Full Automatic (Continuous fire while the trigger is engaged), which require a very expensive class 3 FFL to own. The weapons themselves are almost prohibitively expensive.

You’d have a better chance of making a convincing argument if you got your terms right to start with.

How about getting back on topic now…m’kay?

          • michael s

correct spelling please.its sad that you’re equating semi automatic weapons and fully automatic weapons just to run away from the fact that Romney lied. even in the state romney ran you can own a machine gun( AUTOMATIC WEAPON) . You just won’t be honest and admit this because you are a romney lapdog . if i know this shouldn’t your modern day Joseph Smith. the NRA must be proud to endorse a person who doesn’t w the gun laws of the state he was a govenor of of the NFA 1934 and FOPA 1986 .ROMNEY LIED AND IF YOU STILL HIM YOU’RE A LEMMING.

Why do people give a guy like Obama who lives by his scripted teleprompter the benefit of the doubt on his Benghazi Rose Garden comments. He clearly wanted to straddle both options, i.e. continue appeasing the Islamic sock puppets with his ‘video killed the diplomat stars’ narrative, the narrative in his U.N. speech………… while also paying lip service to the general notion of ‘terror’ for his military and independent audience. This is the point about modern liberals………….. they are the practitioners of the LIE THAT HIDES IN PLAIN SIGHT………… His comments in the debate were a completely pre-scripted act as well………… act outraged and above the act of coverup……….. as if they’re not doing the same thing by declaring exec privilege on ‘Fast and Furious’.

Romney missed a big opportunity. When Obama said he found Romney’s comments about his Benghazi coverup ‘offensive’, Romney should have simply stated……….”Yes, the truth is offensive for those that want to deny it.”

“Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the

great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values
that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the
very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our

this is the tele-journalism equivalent of the Washington Post printing a retraction of a bogus page 1 above the fold story on page 43

Sadly, the American public depends more on emotions rather than facts. Read the transcript of what President Obama did say and make up your own mind. We are so divided by race and political parties in this great US of A. God help us or Joseph Smith help us in the future…Yes, I did go there!

Please visit , or more importantly, send your liberal and independent friends who haven’t swallowed all of their Obama flavored Kool-Aid yet. They can be saved!

Not only did the President not admit it was an act or terror – he called out Romney at the time stating: “Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later,” I hate that we have a POTUS that lies so easily.

  • AUBraves

Why does Romney have to debate against two people? Why does Crowley think she had any right to involve her dem lies into something this important? She should be ashamed of herself… totally ashamed.

You posted a comment in Report:

Republicans always get stuck with liberal “journalists” at the debates. It’s always Raddatz, Crowley, Iffil, Brokaw et al. As long as Republicans allow K Street lobbyist Frank Farenkph to negoitate for them, it will happen again in 4 years. Mr. Farenkoph is a lobbyist for the gambling industry. He is the consummate Washington insider. He considers network TV journalists to be his buddies. He pals around fancy restaurants where he schmoozes with beltway bigwigs. As long as the Republicans leave everything to Farenkoph, who was never elected to anything, the Republicans will get what they deserve. Paul Kirk, the Democrat negotiator for the debates, makes sure no conservative journalists (there are only a few) ever get on a debate panel. Farenkoph gets taken to the woodshed every time.

  • Joe Sackett

Candy Crowley is a dupe. She should have read the transcript when Axelrod first gave her orders. Now, she is stuck looking like a moron.

Obama has no depth of character. He knows he cannot run on his record.

And the TRUTH shall prevail! Go Team Romney! Prayers for the truth to be known always….aka trthskr25

say “hi” to hillary while you’re under that bus, candy

Candy, now you know why you where told to shut up and let the candidates answer the questions. You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

How it is that Barack Obama knew that Candy Crowley had a copy of the transcript?

    OBAMA: Please proceed governor.

ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because

it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi

    an act of terror.

OBAMA: Get the transcript. <—- *could it be collusion?

CROWLEY: It – it – it – he did in fact, sir.

So let me – let me call it an act of terror…

OBAMA: Can you say that a little louder, Candy?

CROWLEY: He – he did call it an act of terror. It did as well

take – it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there

being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct

    about that.

“Governor, Governor….., by coincidence, I just happen to have a transcript of that press conference right here in my hand…”

I just have to believe that the American people do have brains, that all these “polls” that show Obama ahead of Romney are bogus, and contrary to the mainstream media train behind Obama, Romney will win the Presidential election by a landslide!!
