Science is hard: Andrea Mitchell graphic says ‘Fearless Felix traveled faster than speed of light’

Oh, our aching sides! As Twitchy reported yesterday, daredevil and skydiver Felix Baumgartner made his space jump, in which he hoped to travel faster than the speed of sound.

Science is hard, to lapdogs. Especially for the ones at MSNBC, evidently. Sound? Light? Same difference! No need to let pesky science get in the way.

Hilarity, of course, ensued. The giggling, it hurts!

Heh. No one with half a brain does anymore.

  • SFerggie

And they pay the stupid bit@h how much?

    • SineWaveII

      Too damn much.

  • Josh

People make too big a deal out of stupid gaffes. There’s far better examples of gross incompetence on MSNBC every day at 6PM.

    • SineWaveII

Yes because when it goes the other way they are sooo kind and forgiving. Give us a break.

    • The_Wardle

      Or the entire GOP “platform”

      • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Amazingly weak attempt at a rejoinder.

        • The_Wardle

I don’t see too much value in reaching this crowd, as amazingly, I’m flanked on all sides here by odd Obama snark, very weak indeed, and an embrace in climate change denial, all on some dumb gaff by some dumb talking head. Mind blowing. Look, I’m new at this trolling thing but there’s plenty of valid arguments against the president, unfortunately this side of the house, much like the other, is supremely content with repeating bullshit talking points.

But hey, this still isn’t nearly as bad as a lot of other sites, so I may check in again. Good night and good luck!

          • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Look, I’m new at this trolling thing but there’s plenty of valid arguments against the president, unfortunately this side of the house, much like the other, is supremely content with repeating bullshit talking points.

            1) This thread isn’t about the president, dumbass.
            2) If what we say is accurate (and it mostly is) then we’re not using ‘bullshit talking points.’ Get over it…and get over yourself, Mr. “I’m a great middle of the road moderate”.

Good riddance, and don’t let the door knob hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

          • rickg62

Remember, being a liberal requires the lack of reasoned thought but being a moderate requires the lack of courage to support a set of beliefs.

          • The_Wardle

Gracious, how blessed I must be to be surrounded by such wisdom! My, you must have this whole thing figured out. Even if you forgot to include me not loving my country or something. Thank you. I’ve gone all this time doing what I’ve done without even realizing I was a coward. Better find a new line of work right away

    • thekatzemeow

While you are correct about their incompetence I think of thing is extremely important esp. to show people why they can’t trust many news orgs.

I stopped reading our local paper several years ago when they couldn’t bother to get the time of day correct on a story. Not just a AM/PM kind of mistake either. They reported the incedent occuring an 2 am, when all other reports had it occuring in the late afternoon. If a “news” outlet can’t get basic hard FACTs correct (like time of day, speed of light or sound) then how can they be trusted to get fuzzy items right?

      • Josh

An incorrect time stamp is a substantive error. Speed of light, a physical impossibility according to Uncle Al, vs speed of sound is just a brain fart. Plus I didn’t see any video so I don’t know if Andrea Mitchell reported it as such. If not, I think attributing the mistake to her is disingenuous. There’s far better things to mock her for. Such as her ghoulish appearance, a face for radio if you will, in an age of widescreen high definition digital television.

        • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

For those of us who paid attention in school, the difference between light and sound is not a brain fart.

          But thanks for playing.

  • Hiraghm

Had he actually exceeded the speed of light, it’s entirely possible he’d destroy the Earth. He would have effectively become a black hole. Then again, I wonder what sized crater a man traveling at 186 thousand miles per second would leave in the Earth’s crust?

    • Gerry L

Can’t say “Black Hole” That’s raaaaaaaaacist!!! LOL.

      • SineWaveII

That’s right! It’s Urban Inner City Hole, Jim you racist. /libtard.voice.off

    • BlueGood

I heard Mr. Baumgart practised his Faster than Speed of Light at CERN….

He had to shrink himself temporarily to the size a particle to be able to fit in the little tube of the Collider…traveling in circles until he was almost as “Dizzy” as MSNBC REPORTERS!

After said practice runs, Mr. Baumgart had to be reconstituted like an MRE, (Meals Ready to Eat…just add water), and he was thus fully prepared to travel to the edge of SPACE via GIANT CONDOM …er.. BALLOON donated by Trojan…. and JUMPED like an O’Bama Supporter into SPACE….reaching speeds that astonished Albert Einstein….

Poor Andrea, she must be visiting the high altitude of Denver………..

  • kch50428

We shouldn’t blame Mrs. Greenspan for this… she’s just regurgitating what some flunky snot-nosed intern producer wrote for the teleprompter & graphics operator to put on TV… and since she is not intellectually equipped to recognize as being totally wrong… we shouldn’t blame her for it. But we can laugh uncontrollably at her idiocy.

Math is hard too! This is from an AP reporter: “Baumgartner came down in the eastern New Mexico desert minutes after jumping from his capsule 28,000 feet, or 24 miles.” There are 5280 feet in a mile so shouldn’t that be 126,720

  • Mr. Fever Head

So he went back in time, then?

Don’t question her. The science is settled.

  • andycanuck

I guess when you’re reporting at twice the speed of sound it’s easy to get burned.

    • SineWaveII

      LOL good one

  • http://www.facebook.com/mark.reitz.12 Mark Reitz

No screen shot, but for a time, Fox News was scrolling that Baumgartner jumped not from 128,000 feet, but 128,000 MILES.

    • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

So, we’ll just take your word for it then?

Amazing that a typo would be cause for this much howling, you people are genuinely weird.

        • John (it true me am)

It’s an amusing bit of stupid, no one thinks it is serious news. What, not allowed a little bit of comedy here and there?

          • Justin Levesque

Only if the joke is at the expense of a conservative.

          • salvagesalvage

I guess but still a typo of no importance yet some commentators here are howling about it like it means something.

        • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

          That wasn’t a typo, dumbass.
By the way…if you peruse the site a little bit, you’ll see that Twitchy tracks a LOT of things. So lighten up, Francis.

I think the government can come clean on that 1947 balloon crash in Roswell, now.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

So does this mean that the age differential between Baumgartner and folks older than him has now widened from what it was before the jump??

They wish they could travel at light speed so they can get this losing election over for them faster. MSNBC are ignorant idiots with the agenda of trashing republicans, lieing to the public, and supporting democrats regardless of their fake ass messages.
