Obama camp: Nah, we’re not planning to pull the Big Bird ad

Yesterday Sesame Workshop asked the Obama campaign to take down its pitiful and desperate attack ad featuring an unapproved use of Big Bird. After the absurd and widely mocked ad backfired, it would have been an easy out for the campaign to give in to Sesame’s request.

But no. Apparently Team Obama still thinks the ad is the best thing everRobert Gibbs told “The Today Show” the campaign thugs have no plans to pull the ad.

Back off, Muppeteers. The bird is coming with us, says Gibbs.

When will the Democrats’ War on Big Bird end?

Maybe the campaign just didn’t like conservatives’ helpful suggestions for new Obama Muppets to feature in the ad?

Gibbs also believes the Big Bird ad raised “an important point.”

Snicker.

This is how you get, how you get to November defeat.

I’m sure the add will come down when they get sued by big bird for illegally using his persona for stupidity.

What ever happened to trademark infringement and piracy laws in this country? Big Bird and Sesame Street are registered trademarks, and the use of the video of BB without the authorization of the the publisher is clearly intellectual property piracy. The DOJ and FBI would be all over this if the GOP had done this, or if any private citizen’s group had so flagrantly violated the law. But then again we are talking about Holder and his interpretation of the law.

Odds are, politicians have crafted themselves a giant legal loophole on this subject. Just as they do with everything else.

If our own President won’t respect our trademark/copyright and intellectual property laws, how can we expect his administration to make other countries (ie: China) to do so? I’m surprised Hollywood isn’t all over this with their concerns over piracy, oh wait….

    • Bryan Ewbank

Because… (all together now)…. “YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT”

    • Shawn Smith

Honestly, this is probably legal under fair use. It’s a really unpleasant way to behave, but I suspect it’s legal. If I were in charge at the Street, though, I’d be calling up my muppet lawyer right now to evaluate whether or not we had an infringement case.

    • rickg62

They would probably argue that because of partial government funding that Big Bird is a subsidiary of the government and not subject to copyright infringement.

it’s not a copyright violation … since the government funds PBS, and since government issued the copyright on Sesame Street and its characters, the government can use any image of any character it funds.

just imagining the Solicitor General’s response to the lawsuit….

      • Toqin

How is the DNC a government? Please provide proof

Obama’s campaign, from the very beginning, has been one miss fire after another. From the “war on women”, Cayman Islands, Felon, Mormon, Dog on Top of Car, Bully when he was young, Bain Capitol, Tax records, Lying Cutter, Lying Wasserman Schultz, DNC no God or Isreal, Multiple Biden Gaffes, Limp Obama DNC speech, Horrible Debate…to now Big Bird. This campaign will be ridiculed for many years to come in the history books.

Last night on Fox, Charles Krauthammer was pleading and begging with the Obama campaign to keep playing that video and to play it over and over and over again, because it was the surest way for Obama to lose the White House. I guess Obama’s people listened to him. ROFLMAO

      God I love Krauthammer.

    • ZoriahShepard

Oh I hope they leave it up. It’s really the best thing ever. To date, this is the best mistake they’ve made. They may as well just leave the front door to the White House wide open for Romney.

    • disappearing moderate

I saw that, too. I love that the dems are doubling down because it’s the best thing they got at the moment! It’s a consulate cover up distraction, unflattering as it is, but what else can they go with? They got nothing.

Exactly what I predicted yesterday. Anybody who has anything to do with Obama and his admin have zero regard for the law (just look at Fauxcahontas).

This has crossed the line from silly to downright obnoxious. When the people you claim to be trying to defend ask you to shut up and you don’t . . . How can you respect them at all?

  • SAndrews

I believe this is a powerful ad for the Obama campaign. His policies have always been “for the birds”.

  • ozconservative

Australian conservative commentator Andrew Bolt sums it up like this:

“Why is Obama in trouble? Maybe because when times get tough – record
deficits, huge numbers of unemployed, American ambassador murdered –
he’s the kind of guy who
decides to stick up for a 2m yellow
multi-millionaire in one of the most embarrassingly childish campaign
    ads ever screened:”

  • Kenny Hitt

Every day that this ad runs puts Sesame Workshop’s 501(c)(3) status in jeopardy.

  • http://twitter.com/jimni27 Jimni27

Obama probably just signed executive orders. It’s the Obama Way!

  • Symph2001

Yeah Gibbs it does raise an important point. Why are tax payers funding a company that makes an average of $100 million in merchandising fees each year…….

  • Bryan Ewbank

Shows, once again, the lack of respect for private property rights that this admin has.

  • http://twitter.com/jgmroz JGMZ

Maybe Sesame Street needs to do a “very special episode”…

  • CalCon10

It’s a great distraction from lots of stuff: the economy, unemployment numbers increasingly seen as “cooked,” foreign policy disasters. They’re going to keep this alive until their rumored “Wag the Dog” October Surprise.

It’s silly and stupid, but it’s working great for them.

Don’t believe me: what are we talking here: Big Bird, not Benghazi. Right?

Could have sworn I heard that NBC asked for the ad with Andrea Mitchell in it to be pulled also…but it’s still running.
When Romney was asked to remove certain things, he did.
Says so much about Obama that he just does whatever he wants…just like with our constitution.

So the film-maker who *didn’t cause the Libya terror attack* is in jail because Mr. Obama says he “violated the terms of probation.”

Yet the President of the United States flaunts his office to violate the terms of copyright law and he is immune to the consequences.

This president must be voted decisively out of office this November.

From the IRS website (link below):
Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.

Obama’s campaign is attempting to sacrifice Sesame Street to save his re-election bid. PATHETIC.

Wasn’t it Obama that intimated that when a politician doesn’t have real answers, they revert to trivial things? Seems like I remember him saying something like that …lol.

  • kauainaut

It’s almost like he’s trying to lose.. Do you think he has a better offer?

  • 2Sacrifice

Abuse of power. Public Television is paid for by ALL Americans. Big Bird should not be politicized. But hey in Obama’s world anything goes. If you don’t like the immigration laws…refuse to enforce them, etc.
