Voter suppression outrage: Wis. failing to send out military absentee ballots, numbers down in battleground states

Unreal. What a way to thank our brave soldiers for their incredible service to this country. Go fight for us, and for freedom, but forget about that pesky fundamental right to vote. Voting? Military need not apply.

Shameful, indeed. As reported by the MacIver Institute, at least 30 municipalites in Wisconsin did not send absentee ballots before the 45 day deadline. Anthony Principi, former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs is demanding action from the Government Accountability Board, and rightly so.

The indispensable John Hayward at Human Events has more:

“This violation is particularly unsettling in light of the fact that, only six months ago, a federal court entered a consent decree against Wisconsin and the Government Accountability Board for similar violations of military voting rights,” Principi pointed out.  He said these violations “may deprive service members of their fundamental right to vote.”

Principi wrote on behalf of the Romney campaign, which has asked the Government Accountability Board to push back the deadline for receiving absentee military ballots, to fully account for the failure of these Wisconsin municipalities to send them by the prescribed date.  The GAB says this would require a court order.

And if that isn’t bad enough, he goes on to report on another military absentee ballot debacle in Wisconsin discovered just last week. The Federal Voting Assistance Program failed to give Wisconsin service members the correct deadline for submitting their absentee ballots. You know, if they are lucky enough to even get them on time. The date it listed on its website was seven days after the deadline! By “Assistance Program,” perhaps they mean Suppression Program.

Citizens are infuriated. Our men and women in uniform deserve to have their votes counted, always.

It’s happening in Virginia and other battleground states, too.

More from Fox News:

Requests from military voters for absentee ballots have dropped significantly since 2008, according to newly released statistics, prompting claims that the Department of Defense is dragging its feet in enacting a law meant to boost military voting.

The drop in the battleground states of Virginia and Ohio is among the most pronounced. According to statistics released Monday by The Military Voter Protection Project, the number of absentee ballot requests by both military members and other overseas voters in the two states has dropped 70 percent since 2008.

How convenient. For President Obama.

Another lapdog disgrace. Yet, they’ll have breathless reports about the GOP for simply wanting to require photo identification when voting. Because, raaaaaciiiist!!!111

This is actual suppression. Where are the cries from  Ellen BarkinMichael MooreJoe Biden, the NAACPAttorney General Eric Holder and his apologists, Rep. Keith Ellison, and other unhinged leftists?

Our finest and bravest are being disenfranchised under Obama’s watch. This is more than a shameful disgrace. This is an outrage.

If military do not turn out how much do you think this will effect the election result?

    • MrSnuggles2k2

Enough to change the result in a close battleground state like VA.

  • Joseph Phillips

Who was it that said America won’t fall to an external enemy, but from within? He was right.

    • Conservativeanarchist

Breshnev said they didn’t need to attack America. They would destroy themselves.

    • Sara Alderman

According to a few googles…. Lincoln was paraphrased as saying that…. “It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher.”

    • Chris Wablington

That would be Nikita Kruschev I believe. I agree with your statement although personally I view President Obama as an outsider!

      • Dale Lowry

Please don’t give this jackass the title of President. He has not yet been vetted to be eligible to be the President of the United States of America.

    • George Hughes

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the

University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the

Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: “A democracy is always

temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent

form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until

the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous

gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority

always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from

the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a

beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200

years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

      From bondage to spiritual faith;

      From spiritual faith to great courage;

      From courage to liberty;

      From liberty to abundance;

      From abundance to complacency;

This is not only disgraceful to our Military but Shameful to their families who have to stay at home, while they are on the battlefront! This needs a fix, and it needs it NOW. But I hardly expect the @barackobama to do anything about it!

  • weRbroke

Its a shame that Government circles the wagons around it’s most worthless employees. There should be a bunch of pink slips going out…gov employees hitting the pavement with “stupid” tattooed to their resume.

  • Grumpa Grumpus

Rosebud7210, Holder can dare to squawk b/c the military aren’t “his people” — and those sharing equivalent pigmentation levels are all.UnkToms.

  • Marcy Cook

They should immediately give an extension and do a full blown campaign for getting those absentee ballots out. Nothing else is acceptable. We know it is being done because most of the military hates Obama and won’t vote for him.

  • Tanker74

Are the law-breaking, voter-suppressing municipalities run by Democrats?

    • Sedated Princess

Yes the Dept of Defense is in charge of getting military overseas registered. My friend works in this dept & he says they’re ALL liberals & they despise the military. They deliberately do these things b/c they know most military will vote for Romney. This makes me so mad

  • Junie3

    This makes me physically ill.

  • Dixie L. Smith

This is a disgrace and the entire country should be shouting it from the roof top. We suddely seem to be living under a dictatorship . Pray for those who will not see just where we are headed in this county by drinking Obamas Kool Aid .We are marching to the socialist drum. God gave us the answer to fix our problems and we aren’t following His instructions . He Said:
2nd Ch.7 :14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

    • Wisconsin Wit

Dixie – the only kool aid is in your glass. This is the result of the voter suppression laws passed by Republicans which limit the windows for absentee/early voting and make the process more restrictive. You want to know why it’s happening? Look in a mirror.

      • AimToMisbehave

Military voting is a completely separate issue, and the matter is one of states failing to meet Federal deadlines. These states didn’t get new deadlines, they failed to meet the ones already in place for military absentee ballots. Nice try at trolling, but you’re grossly incorrect.

      • TexSizzle

Your screen name is half right.

      • EastValleyConservative

B.S. Wisconsin. Total b.s. I am willing to bet you will never mention the fraud that occurred rampantly in 08–proven fraud. The only time people like you chime in is when you *think* your Dem operative may be in trouble. While you may deserve the tyranny that you keep voting in–the rest of us do not. The only sad thing about restoring this country is that people like you will NEVER have to see what you were saved from, therefore, never learn a thing. Pathetic.

      • Michael Rice

Perhas, Czar Obama told them he would pick up the elgal fees if tehy failed to send out the ballots..

  • R1486

  • stuckinIL4now

Way to be on top of things, Twitchy. Heard Charlie Sykes discussing it this morning. Gee how amazing that military voting would be down in OH, VA and WI–three important swing states? And in the PA voter ID ruling, I’ve heard don’t blame the lower court judge for his ruling, He upheld the law originally and now reportedly had his hands tied by the PA state supreme court leaving him no choice but to delay enforcement until after THIS election. The OBAMA/HOLDER vote fraud is on!

    • EastValleyConservative

Got that right. They are in trouble and doubling down. He didn’t win by honest means last time, so it’s just a repeat. Only this time, he’s in more danger.

  • Lynne Zimmermann

Of all the people eligible to vote our military should be given every chance to vote possible. we should be bending over backwards to make sure our heroes are not disenfranchised. chalk up another way this administration disrespects our military.

  • Bill

Talk about dis-infranchised – and these brave souls are actually doing something to protect our right to vote, not sitting on their ass waiting for the democratic van to pick them up to go to the polls.

  • Kay Williams

    OUTRAGE! heads should roll!

  • Richard perkinson

Thanks to all the military servicemen for protecting our fat asses but we’re afraid if we let you vote, you may vote against the one who wants to cut your benefits. (Obama) in case there is anyone that stupid reading this!

  • chris hasty

of all the people who have earned the right to vote it is our servicemen and women. This is absolutely something you will hear about in a couple of weeks when the media decides to report on it.

  • Kari OBrien

Disgusting..what better way to “honor” our soldiers! Send all those worthless people in charge over to the Middle East to serve!

  • Darla Holt-Szcinski

They can’t use bullets in combat zones, why should they get ballots? The enemy of our military is their Commander in Chief!

    • Patricia Rhudy Cook

Our military is supposed to protect the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. What do you do when the worst enemy of all is your own commander in chief?

  • Sheryl Silva Sixsmith

    SO….what’s the solution?

  • alcehastings notaxes

Politics… Chicago style baby, What we expect from an administration who is, At the very least , Negligent in the deaths of our ambassador and three other Americans in Libya, Border patrol agents, 16 Mexican teenagers, And who knows how many others

  • EastValleyConservative

Enough. Bottom line is the state is at fault, the military vote should be counted despite their mistake. This isn’t the first go-round on this nonsense. This happens A LOT. Fed up with Dem operatives trying to stuff the ballot box (and succeeding in many cases…) while cutting off the vote of valid voters including the military.

    • Patricia Rhudy Cook

Individual people need to be sent to prison for this. Find out who is directly and personally responsible for getting these things in the mail.

      • EastValleyConservative

People who committed fraud last go-round (including those who illegally dug into Joe the Plumber’s info) were jailed, but I don’t think it was for long. We need to go back to a standard here. Anyone with a record should NOT be able to serve in any role of government. It seems these days it moves your resume to the top. Look at the administration (Holder,et al) along with many members of Congress.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

The NAACP is more concerned about convicts votes than our military’s. Obama will go to the lowest of lows to stay in office. There is nothing he can do or say to surprise me. I know it will get much worse.

  • Wisconsin Wit

Irony: Republicans push through voter suppression laws, then complain when they work.

    • AimToMisbehave

Why don’t you go out and beat the drum against all of the other “suppression” that goes on at the bank, grocery store, and a whole bunch of federal/state government offices that require ID? You could start at the next Democrat nominating convention…

    • Doc – N.Nevada

Not really. Republicans push through laws to prevent illegal, dead, and multiple voters from voting ‘Chicago Style’! At least when Capone’s boys ‘bought elections’ in Chicago … they did it by buying and intimidating REAL Registered Voters! Bad enough the SEIU is ‘certifying’ the voting machines in Nevada (probably elsewhere too) – how else could Dingy Harry ever win? If you doubt this …poll a majority of the registered Nevada voters from ALL parties … he is despised unilaterally by 80% of the people of NV, but gets a ‘landslide win’ – when a few days before the 2010 elections the state polls said basically that they believed Dingy Harry “was done, stick a fork in him”! Enter the SEIU … landslide for thier protector …

    • TexSizzle

Give one example of a voter suppression law pushed through by Republicans. Just as I thought, you can’t because it hasn’t *ever* happened.

  • James Francis

This is really terrible. First, a consulting firm in 5 states (mainly Florida) fradulently registers a bunch of voters and throws away registration from those in the opposition party and now this? When will this voting madness stop!

  • Robert Whitney

Apparently Virginia is having the same problem. My Sister and her Husband are stationed in Bahrain. They have not received their Absentee ballots yet. Also many of the Virginia Residents stationed there have the same problem.

    • Tera Blair Kirk

maybe the military should change to a digital ballot. Just the military. ID and SS#s required to send it in. Hack proof servers, whole nine yards. This would totally demolish the military voting problems. Why, in this day and age, of ditigal capabilities hasn’t this happened yet? Or is it just to use the military vote as a pawn in a bigger game?

  • Donna Dees

The list of municipalities should be published so their people and the rest of us can out them for the lawbreakers they are. I see ObamaFraud is already in progress.

  • CalCon10

Where is Scott Walker? Where is the GOP outrage? This reveals the depth of corruption not just by Democrats, but by Republican laziness and complacency.

  • Vicky Bailey Rorrer

Honestly….is anyone really surprised by this….it’s just pathetically typically of this administration…haven’t we had enough!!!!

  • Nicole Hansen Hodges

I keep looking around for the hand-basket… It’s got to be here somewhere. Hop on in!!

  • Dawn Renee Radford

Last time I looked Wisconsin has a
GOP Governor and a lot of his appointees in key jobs. I would like to
know who is at fault here too…

    • TexSizzle

The people in government in the municipalities where the vote suppression is occurring. Chances are, they are run by Democratics.

  • DMayEADS

Let me guess, the municipalities that failed to deliver lean left or they are public service union run offices? I’d like to see the statistics. I’m willing to chip in some bucks to overnight the forms back, that is, if they ever get them!

  • vino veritas

This election should be suspended right now until this matter is thoroughly resolved. Romney should be making a big stink about this too! Where are the repubs and where is Gov Walker on this? This is exactly the kind of thing that allowed obama to steal the election in 2008, are we going to stand by and let them get away with it again?

  • EmptySea

Conservative soldiers must die for the messiah. They may not vote. This is the word of Obama.

  • Paul J. Citro

Most of our boys vote republican need I say more.

  • Gregg Van Oss

These brave people lay their lives on the line every day for us; they should be allowed to go to the front of the line when voting. We need to start convicting those who perpetrate this fraud, starting with Eric Holder. Impeach now; we’ll never make it to January.

  • $30423294

Surely these people must draw the line somewhere?

I keep thinking, wow, I never thought they would stoop so low. But a week later, by golly, they’ve gone lower.

These days I’m thinking, they wouldn’t possibly burn the whole thing down, would they? America, I mean. They wouldn’t take it *that* far, would they?

    I’m not so sure.

  • hiway280z

They cut their pay and benefits already. This admin is putting 200,000 out of the military which means more jobless for the unemployment rolls. and now they have not sent the requests for absentee ballots to our military. They don’t want their vote as they know most will not vote for Obama. We should demand votes not be counted untill every military man and woman vote.

  • Capt America

If this keeping ballots away from democratic voters there would be some group like the ACLU hauling the govt’s ass into court. Why isn’t there any group on our side filing suit?

    • Richard

So true!!! What a great way to treat those that ensure our freedom!

  • $30423294

Remember the innocent days when democrats merely spat on soldiers?

  • Patricia Rhudy Cook

Is there no penalty for this? This is just hard to describe.

  • Doug Harrod

Who knows the real reason and facts? Just don’t throw out opinions if you do not know why it doesn’t help anything to guess other than polarizing an already polarized political environment.

  • native son

Let’s get this out there! Twitter it, fb it! Let’s tell everyone we can to get the word out! Maybe public outrage is the only way!

  • dawn

The truly ironic and shameful scope here is that the gov’t is here BECAUSE of our military, and America’s military of the past…and now they ignore them like they are not even an entity. They sit in their offices protected by soldiers and rights afforded by soldiers on American soil, plotting to destroy America from within, while handing out ballots to illegals, and screaming “racists” and “undue hardships” in rally against ID’s for voting. Truly, what has this nation come to, to where this behavior is acceptable by even ONE American–natural-born, or naturalized? I am so ashamed of our government, and I apologize to ALL of our troops, and I pray to God for our future.

  • Hugo

Can you say “coup”? This is bottom of the barrel criminal–working to deny military personnel from voting. I hope the military members take note and rain hell down on those who are clearly trying to block their votes. Are there enough non-bots left in military leadership to recognize that we have a domestic enemy in the WH? God save us!

  • lana ward

Anything to win. Our troops should vote before anyone else is even allowed!!!

  • Edward Reyes

i have 2 sons in USMC,and both of them told me,the 80% of the military are mostly going to vote for Romney…and obama knows that…that man is just so evil !!!
