Title fail: Daily Beast uses anti-Semitic stereotype to commemorate Rosh Hashanah

Today, Jews around the world are celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. To commemorate the holiday, The Daily Beast decided to compile a photo gallery of Jews blowing the shofar, or ram’s horn, which ushers in the start of the new year. Seems innocuous enough.

When it came time to title the collection of photos, though, someone dropped the ball. Hard. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall when The Daily Beast editors came up with the brilliant idea to pay tribute to the centuries-old stereotype about Jews having horns …

We can’t wait to see how The Daily Beast marks Yom Kippur.

Hold on. I need a second to process how funny that title is.

I remember an episode of “Little House on The Prairie” where Albert apprenticed for a Jewish carpenter(irony?) and was told the Jews have horns because of their faith. But they probably won’t insult Muslims. I can imagine the field day they could have mocking Christians or Catholics.

Michael Landon not only played Pa Ingalls in that show, he also wrote, directed and produced many of the episodes. His father was Jewish and his mother was Catholic. If you think he was attacking religion rather than trying to teach a lesson in tolerance, you’ve probably forgotten he went on to create Father Murphy and Highway to Heaven.

Here’s a good article that talks about Landon and faith, and even mentions the Jewish carpenter episode:

No, I remember the episode well, that it was about tolerance. I also love Highway to Heaven.

HTH was/is a GREAT show. Sometimes Mr. Smith was terrifying (to bad guys )other times he could make you cry.

I bet they laughed themselves silly at their cleverness. Ha ha. Under normal circumstances this would be very poor taste. But now? What are they trying to stir up?
