Suzanne Somers, Erik Estrada praise Clint Eastwood; Left attacks

Suzanne Somers took to Twitter the other day, to praise Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa., Fla. This isn’t the first time that Somers has spoken out. As Twitchy reported, she let Dennis Miller know how hilarious she found one of his riffs on Joe Biden.

Chuck Woolery (unverified account) and Erik Estrada (unverified account) agreed.

Conservatives thanked them for standing up and for refusing to toe the Hollywood leftist line.

As Twitchy reported, Kirstie Alley had also refused to toe the line and expressed her own independent thought. This does not suit the Left, natch.

New tone! They then proceed to attack Mr. Eastwood with some elder-bashing and hate, yet again.

They then move on to attacking Ms. Somers. As usual, the tolerance police attack those with whom they disagree. And a woman expressing her own opinion? Shut up, and get back in the kitchen, woman! Know your place.

Sexist, much? Of course they are. Scratch a liberal, find a sexist. Every single time.

Bingo. Free speech for me, but not for thee. That is the crux of their argument every time. They have nothing to back up their support for President Obama. So, the response is always “Because, shut up.”

Well, conservatives refuse to be silenced. Even those in Hollywood.

Aren’t these liberal/ progressives such a tolerant group. Whenever you disagree with them they refuse to debate the issue on an adult level, but are very quick with the personal attacks and name calling.

    • Owen007

Picked this up from Google: “lib·er·al: Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values.”

I think the first part of this definition is in need of updating.

    • Rodney Brungardt

Saul Alinski tactics front and center. If they have no rebuttal, then demonize those who do not agree! It’s the Liberal way, they hate the truth because the truth has NO agenda.

    • rachel

I’m a liberal – sorry dirty word – and I love Clint Eastwood! He becomes a better filmmaker with age. He took creative license in presenting his point of view at the convention. I don’t have to agree with his politics to think he is a national treasure…you are wrong to think everyone with different politics spews hatred. Might be only Liberals with too much time on their hands are on this site…oops! I am putting off work…Clint rocks!

      • TKeenan

Tread carefully Rachel, that kind of talk will get you targeted for insults and hate. Just ask John Lovitz.

        • rachel

I’ll be honest, I’m not happy about this, but I have to agree some Liberals don’t much much of a sense of humor when you disagree with them. I once covered the Republican convention and had a great time going out drinking with Republicans. democrats preach and I hate being preached at. I have complained to them and they even agree about politics they are not always a lot of fun.by (My friends though are good intentioned and don’t spout hatred let’s get that clear.)
It’s very dangerous what’s happening to Lovitz. I know you’re joking but it’s serious. Comics make us see the world in a different light. They sometimes do it by stepping out of our comfort zone. When they are silenced we all lose, especially in insight and laughter. Comics have to be safe to express their opinions. Comedy has sometimes been the first step to social change.
As for my safety, I wear funny disguises and a false nose when I leave my house. I have a 10 pound pomeranian who protects me.

      • TKeenan

Tread carefully Rachel, that kind of talk will get you targeted for insults and hate. Just ask John Lovitz.

      • Patricia L Schurr

Rachel, I truly wish more people like you spoke up…all we usually see is the liberals with hate agenda. They name-call. They think just by the very fact that they are liberal that they can make sexist, racist and age discriminating statements to attack others and yet be all inclusive. They can’t formulate a decent rebuttal to any statement. Your politics might not be my politics…but civility is a lost art in this country.

        • rachel

I think there are more liberals like me than you know. Also liberal just tends to be my direction on many issues. It doesn’t define me or circumscribe me or lock me into any mindset. American is how I describe myself and before that a human being.Liberal is way down the list and so is Democrat. Personal relationships and philosophy define people. I know that is foofy. But i suspect it is how most people feel.

I have a knee jerk reaction to what I perceive as censorship, I was born in a country where if you expressed any political beliefs contrary to the government you could lose your life. I never lost that sense of awe and wonder and pride that I live in a country where people can say what they want without fear. That is a gift and a responsibility and something not to be abused. We have to support everyone’s right to free speech – as long as it’s not obscene or hate filled like Biggs – even if we disagree with them. More so in fact if we disagree with them.

      • nickshaw

Good for you, Rachel. I’m guessing you’re a classic liberal. Someone that could argue your point and perhaps come to some accommodation with a conservative. Afterall, that’s how this government has evolved, right? Unfortunately, the rise of progressivism has gradually destroyed the liberal ideal and taken over most of the government and now “liberals” all get painted with the same dirty brush.
It’s sad really ’cause it affects us all. Real liberals need to take back the Democrat party. Progressives should have their own. Call it, perhaps, the Communist Party or something.

        • rachel

I am not a Communist. I hope you are not saying that. Gulp! I think we all need to take back our parties and rethink where we want this country to go. I come to a site with different opinions than I hear with my liberal friends so I can learn something. You don’t learn in an echo chamber. I have met some very, nice thoughtful people on this site. (And of course been called names, a hag, friendless, ugly, etc.) But mainly it has been positive because most people in this country and on this site are concerned and want the best for Ameria’s future. I am sorry if this is foofy. For me the election is less important that what happens afterwards. If there is so much hatred and name calling the taste will linger. Even a president with great ideas and intellect and heart will get nothing accomplished if he doesn’t get some support from the Senate and House. The Republicans and democrats as it is now cannot seem to get anything done. How does name calling and hatred accomplish anything? It won’t matter who is president under those circumstances. I don’t understand why more people don’t understand that but you seem to. Thanks for taking the time to write.

          • nickshaw

Of course I’m not referring to you as a Communist, Rachel. It’s the progressives that have taken over your party I’m speaking of.
And there are more than a few in the GOP too! We conservatives know this and are trying our best to get rid of them!
As to your response further downstream, I agree, there is no need for either side to denigrate the physical attributes of someone just because you don’t agree with their politics.
However, some can fly off the handle (we are human afterall!) when someone says something as despicable as Barkin did in her tweets!
“John Lovitz maybe I met you a few times back in the day,but now you’re just an ignorant asshole.Shut the fuck up!”
            Or
“I love everybody…except u right wing fuckin morons.”
Things like this tend to raise dander.
What did Somers do to get her responses?

          • rachel

I agree with what you say. I knew you were joking about the Communist part.
People are letting off a lot of steam. I got called ugly . U have to admit that is hilarious. How can they see me?
What Ellen Barkin said is loathsome. Attack her on that, her words.

What I have learned from many on this site, is not to make genralizations that all Republicans think one way or that there is a no room for compromise or common ground. I could say the same for Democrats and liberals. We don’ agree on everything, there are measured voices, there is room for coming to agreement.
What ellen barkin said is nothing I have ever heard from any of my democrat friends. It’s not acceptable to wish anyone dead, especially a fellow America. We have enemies without, countries that enjoy and would want us to self destruct. Do we really need to do that to ourselves?
It seems when people run out of ideas they attack weight or appearance. Isn’t this like being in kindergarten? How can I tell my son not to bully people at school and make fun of their weight or appearance when he hears adults do it on tv? I don’t want my daughter to think her entire worth is dependent on her youth and beauty? It will be gone soon enough. I want her to see her worth in the productive things she accomplishes and the love of her family and friends. She looks at a site that refers to looks, after being bombarded by this stuff on tv, and then she will think all that matters is being a babe. She will have quite a shock when she is no longer so cute. I don’t want that to be her fate.
People talk about consequences and personal responsibility and this is is part of it.
I heard gov. Brown challenge chris Christie to a race. So if he wins does that mean he’s right and Christie’s wrong? (Brown made me cringe.) Do you discount michael moore’s opinions cause he’s not skinny? We all say we hate bullying but then look at what we say? Take care.

          • nickshaw

The truth is Clint Eastwood has by his remarks declared OPEN SEASON on Obama’s RECORD and all the overreaction is due to the MSM’S sense that this trickle will turn into a raging torrent . Their worst nightmare
What the MSM did by overacting is spread Eastwood’s words to 10’s of millions of Independent voters that would otherwise never have seen it..EPIC FAIL!!!!

good grief! people are so mean and hateful. the wicked, foul comments towards @SuzanneSomers are just horrible! it’s truly disgusting how *men* speak to women these days – just shows you what they think of women by using such crude language. hypocrite liberal liars!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Barrows/100000169731679 Julie Barrows

They only speak that way to conservative women or democrat women who fall off of the wagon. Woe to those women of color who left the plantation (Condi Rice?)!

    • rachel

Queenie, This is great. I am no defender of Ellen Barkin but exactly the way you say you hear Liberals talk about Sommers is how the Right speaks about Barkin, insulting her looks, her age, her sex. It is no different except their politics are different. It’s very interesting.
I have met both women and I like them both because they are ballsy women who have made it in a man’s world…their politics are polar opposites but they are both tough women. To be fair the comments sound the same about both women and I agree it’s sexist, ageist, insulting to women.

      • TKeenan

The difference is that Barkin is attacking others with hateful speech, showing the world what a small, mean-spirited and intolerant person she is. She’s dishing it out so she deserves what comes back to her. Suzanne Somers said nothing hateful or vile about anyone or thing. BIG difference.

I gotta’ agree with TKeenan, Rachel. You have to look at what these women say to elicit the response they get.
        Somers didn’t attack anyone.
Barkin did. Quite crudely I might add.
Remember what you said further up stream and apply your real liberal thinking cap.

        • rachel

Actually I pointed out that Suzanne Sommers did not say anything offensive, she said something positive for which she got unjustly hammered. I am appalled by what some on the left said. They don’t represent me or anyone I know. My point was I think what Ellen Barkin said is fair game to be criticized and attacked. But what do her looks and age have to do with anything? it is sexist and ageist and actually just isn’t germane. I get tired of women getting attacked on this as though women are only relevant and worthwhile as long as they’re young and pretty. That was my point. I also don’t like fat jokes. Attack michael moore on his politics but does Anne Coulter have to make a snarky comment about his weight? How clever is that? I could make a crack about how thin she is but I don’t want to sink to her level. I also don’t like cracks about Gov. Chris Christie’s weight either and I don’t like his politics. It’s like everyone is in kindergarten trying to be as mean as they can. Everyone is beautiful, young and thin now except the people whose politics we dislike?

  • sdc63

I thought liberals were a group tolerant of other peoples opinions? What a myth!

    • nuckinfuts

      LOL, you are SO funny!!

The more liberals go into their derangement mode, and out of their way to insult others, the more it shows we’re #winning. It’s all worth the good laughs too :)

  • hero man

The problem is that the joke didn’t work, Clint just looked confused while he put words into the mouth of a very compliant imaginary man, (isn’t that right Clint), he agrees.
(You stole gold from the teeth of Korean civilians), this really isn’t the time Clint.

It’s not big, its not funny and when you argue with yourself you always win.

Note about all these “EVIL” liberal attacks try disagreeing with the Republican party line and see what happens, I think we all know the answer and none of this is solving anybodies problems.

Please also note that Glen Beck one of the most popular presenters on the most popular news station spent months trying to prove Obama was Hitler.

    • Richard Harold Weatherfield

He did not. Never once during Beck’s show did he EVER try to say that Obama was another Hitler. What he DID say was that Obama’s POLICIES bore certain resemblence to the policies of Nazi Germany (taking over the car companies and the banks, I.E.). He also made several points that brought light to Obama’s past, which the leftist media refuses to talk about, especially now during an election year.

I am sorry to see no one here is proclaiming Suzanne Sommers as their poster girl of choice. She’s self made so I dig that but it seems after all the Ellen Barkin insults re her supposed plastic surgery (and I don’t think or know if she’s had any) no one is mentioning that almost every part of Sommers’ body and face is manufactured. Hell she admits it! But then Sommers is neither washed up nor old and of course she’s a natural blonde, unlike Barkin. Just saying. I admire any old broad who is still up and kicking so I have nothing against Sommers.

    • Patricia L Schurr

Rachel, I really took exception on a comment made about Suzanne Sommers by Sandra Poole in this article about tweets. Like you said Suzanne is neither washed up or old…… “This coming from a B-list actress who couldn’t keep her first real acting job.” ….This left-winger, a woman, who most likely would be for equality in the workplace for women, should look up why Suzanne was fired. She was fighting for equal pay! All the men on 3’s company were being paid more than the women. But instead she reveals her political bias and lack of education through an insult. So, I’ll proclaim Suzanne as my poster girl. :)

      • rachel

Good for you! Seriously. I am tired of women being attacked because of their age. Who is getting younger? You notice how much more it happens with women than men. I don’t think this is a Right or Left issue. It is a misogynist issue and one of unkindness. When I saw some of the attacks on her because of her nice words towards clint I was sickened. Suzanne Sommers was on Broadway a few years back and I met her. She is a nice woman with conservative politics. Most people, even Democrats, think so what! What was a big deal is that she is still out there working and creating and struggling. She is more a businesswoman than an actress now but she’s highly successful. Her plastic surgery is her own business. That is another needless insult by some mean people. Plastic surgery is not a reflection of character. It’s personal. She lost her job on “Three’s Company” over a money dispute. They didn’t want to pay her as much as she wanted. You are right. My point was not to insult Sommers. I wanted to say criticize someone for what they say but not their age or looks. Ellen Barkin sent some tweets, some stupid. It’s fair game to attack her comments but not her looks or age. And it’s almost always women who get slammed for their looks as though if a woman is no longer 20 or beautiful she might as well disappear. This shouldn’t be a Right or Left issue but one of respect towards women.

Funny. This week I got a facebook post from a liberal cousin who couldn’t defend her own argument, but got snarky with me, a conservative, who had the nerve to question her on why she thought that the rich weren’t being taxed enough. Now she is p/o’d at me and won’t talk to me at all! I guess I confused her with the facts instead of backing down like I usually do!

    • Catchance

Oh, yes, Julie… we all have liberal friends or relatives on FB. Have you noticed that it’s always the liberals who get offended? They feel they have the right to call us anything they want, but woe to us if we respond with the facts.

      • Nell

It goes beyond politics too. On FB someone posted something a bit vulgar on a mutual friends page. I made a comment that it wasn’t necessary to use that type of language (we are mothers and grandmothers, so I would not have expected to read that). Well, the snarky reply I got left me wondering – are people insane? Use whatever language you want in private – but on FB where any number of friends can read it??? Is there no common decency anymore? Why do women (of any age) want to trash-talk?

  • CountryWizard

I mean I don’t know where you live but if you go to a bookstore (there are now few), a Manhattan deli, the theater, not the “2016: Obama’s America” but how about some artsy film, I’m sure you’ll find a Liberal to talk to. Randall you are a silly billy.

There are plenty of Conservative (or at least R-Registered/Supporting Libertarians) celebrities who have come out of the closet over the years – off the top of my head… Kelsey Grammer (possibly the most vocal outside Woorley and Jon Voight) Tom Selleck, Sly Stallone, Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, Gloria Estafon, LL Cool J, 50 Cent (Bush guy – go figure, huh), Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn (and possibly Owen Wilson since I know they went to a Republican Convention together), Joe Pesci, James Caan, Heather Locklear, Dean Cain, Drew Carey, Andy Garcia, Shannen Doherty, Bo Derek, Karl Malone, The Rock, Sarah Mechelle Gellar, Stephen Baldwin (yeah, we got the other goofy Baldwin in our camp – but at least he is the totally bad-ass goofy one!), the entire “Blue Collar Comedy” group, sadly Jessica Simpson and her ex, Nick Lechey, and many, many, many more.

Search around online – some of the names might actually blow you away.

And we seem to be adding more – a pretty cool (now) Repub-leaning Libertarian is this guy:

      • suz73

Wow you are totally in the know on this. There’s hope I may see another movie. Thanks for enlightening me!

        • Darkstar1661

Yep, there is hope. Of course, the vocal nutcases on the Left will
always overpower the voices of reason, while Conservatives are generally more reserved by nature anyway (where both are true in all walks of life as well) but there are quite a few people you can openly, proudly support!

There are even Conservative directors, some of which have even gone as far as making nearly 100% Conservative movies with Republican casts (for instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_American_Carol – which is the extreme Republican flick, but not the only)

Otherwise, honestly, I wouldnt put off many movies solely because of the Bias nuts in them though. Like really, there are only about 5 people who I will refuse to pay to see (and in some cases refuse to see period), and Sean Penn is not even one of them (movies like The Thin Red Line and Carlito’s Way are just way too awesome not to watch every so often)

      • rachel

Look as a Liberal it would never occur to me to not see any of the movies made by the actors above because they are Republican. The only one you might want to not boast of is Mel Gibson. My reasons have nothing to do with his politics.

    • rachel

I am a liberal and I would never miss a movie by Clint Eastwood. He is one of our greatest filmmakers. He is a great American patriot as well. By the way I’ve never heard any of my Democrat friends say otherwise of him. I refuse to limit myself exclusively to movies or books created by people who share my politics. . Jon Voight is also a great actor..not crazy about some of his rants but love his movies and would never not see a movie because of his politics. He is also I think a deent man..let”s be honest and say not so much for Suzanne Sommers’s acting. I doubt if even she thinks she is a great actress…I mean there are plenty of Hollywood and non-Hollywood (and foreign) actors who don’t inflict their politics on others or at least try to be intelligent in how they express themselves, so don’t write off everyone.. I met Kirstie Alley and she’s a bit wacky but fun. What do I care about her politics? (Or her Scientology?) How closed minded would it make me. Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, the list goes on of liberals I guess but I think Pitt would rather talk about the houses he’s rebuilt in the wake of Katrina than on his support for Obama. He’s reluctant to talk about it because he doesn’t want to be pigeonholed or alienate people. Unless an actor was spouting hatred – whether on the Right or Left – I would not boycott his films because of his politics. I hope you reconsider because there is nothing more American in our culture than movies.

      • suz73

Rachel, thank you for sharing your view point and opinion with me. You are probably right about the fact there are those actors that have a different view, which is fine with me actually, I just get all up in arms about the Jason Biggs, (his wife, too), Roseanne Barr, Ellen Barkin and Cher saying such vile things towards people, post it for all to see and show how tacky and unintelligent they are because they have not bothered to learn more about that which they do not know anything about. They show how intolerant they are, but when the tables are turned, ie Cher’s “son” and Jason’s wife they don’t understand and say we are bullying them. Again thank you for sharing.

What happened to Hollywood? look back at the actors and actresses that we used to have, with an EXCEPTIONAL few most are FAR leaning left. what ever happened to standing up for AMERICA instaed of putting it down. WWII, actors left hollywood and ENLISTED, men and women. Today they just whine and bitch about everything. these actors work for us to if you think about it we pay to see them in movies. not anymore!!!

Clint said at the beginning of his speech that there were many more in Hollywood who were conservative in their thinking but kept it close to the vest. He was relaxed in knowing there would be hate speech. If that is the left’s definition of senile then bring it on. Clint knew his whys for not supporting Obama and if it took him a bit to get it out and across to folks…so what! Did your ears bleed from hearing it? You act as if he took you out back in some alley and bitch-slapped your perspective….no, he simply voiced his in a far classier way then your lame attempts :)

  • Kat Blakely

I have always respected Mr. Eastwood – even more now. How anyone can call him ‘senile’ is way beyond my thought process – but then, the liberals truly are; way beyond my thought process.

Thanks to Darkstar1661 and Michael for the info….. maybe I will still spend some money at the movies again! Have a great a Memorial Day and thank you to our troops, past and present for keeping us safe!

Days before the RNC, the main image around Eastwood was “the baddest mothafadda on the block” but after the RNC, the liberals hijacked that and labeled him as a case of dementia and no longer cool. Sad really what they did to him. But to me, he’s the guy who’s so badass in my book, he can make a valid argument on why I shouldn’t put ketchup on my hot dogs (though I still do it today just in total fear that he’s behind me with a 44 magnum)

Chrissy Snow was one of my favorite characters ever. Suzanne Somers has always been a standout in the wretched bucolic intellectual wilderness we call Hollywood. People with any degree of breeding and discernment at all love you Suzanne. Always have, always will.

The left is filled with nothing but hate-mongering, vile, despicable people. Geez, if you say one thing that they disagree with they call you disgusting names or wish you to die. Such tolerant folk they are…..
