Bobby Gladden charged as adult in Perry Hall shooting; dinosaur media finally reveal his name

Yesterday Twitchy reported that classmates identified the alleged gunman in the Perry Hall High School shooting as Bobby Gladden.

Today, after 15-year-old Robert Wayne Gladden Jr. was charged with attempted first degree murder and first degree assault, the dinosaur media finally decided to share his name with their audiences.

Yesterday a “real journalist” slammed Twitchy for reporting the name of Jesse Wasmer, the heroic guidance counselor who tackled the suspected shooter. We explained that while Twitchy’s motto is “who said what,” the dinosaur media cling bitterly to an outdated model:

Which official source said what, and we’ll let you know when we’re good and ready.

Once again, Twitchy beat the self-appointed gatekeepers of information by reporting that Perry Hall students identified the alleged shooter by name. Twitchy also reported on the suspect’s chilling Facebook profile and what his classmates were saying about him long before the dinosaurs.

Unsurprisingly, the reporter who criticized us for “irresponsibly” scooping the mainstream media blocked us on Twitter.

Twitchy is chipping away at the old school media’s exclusive domain over the news. And bless their hearts, some reporters aren’t taking it well.

    Way to go Twitchy!

Although when you consider how often traditional media have run into problems by breaking stories or facts that they later had to retract or change for whatever reason (and I mean perfectly innocently, not Collaborationist nonsense like forging National Guard memos or dynamiting Chevy pickups), I think Twitchy needs to be careful, as somebody once said, Great power brings great responsibility. I mean, look at the death threats directed at George Zimmerman; a lot of that activity was directly through Twitter, and a lot of the Occutardation was too. It would be very grim and go down poorly for all of us is someone were to be harmed as a result of an innocent mistake propagated through this site.

The New Media wins over the dinosaur media. Very good. More please :)

Um…you aren’t a “journalist.” You are a bored housewife who has nothing better to do than read twitter all day and then make opinionated statements about someone else’s writing. That isn’t writing. That is criticism. You are a twitter critic. How sad.

    • Foxe

      And yet, you’re reading it.

    • Jillane Kent

Who are you referencing? If it is Malkin, I’d say your “bored housewife” meme is rather off. How many appearances have you made on television this week? Best selling novels? Websites created from the ground up?

Explain how being first with the story is more important than being correct. Then explain it to Brian Ross. If Twitchy wants to claim it’s ok for them to “report” names and stories without waiting for verification because Twitchy isn’t really a news site that’s fine, but don’t chastise journalists and news organizations that are doing their jobs correctly and focusing on facts instead of being first. I can wait 24 hrs to find out what happened.

You don’t see the difference between googling a name which happens to match a name on a list of people with some affiliation with the tea party but to what extent is not stated, and a whole bunch of eyewitnesses who know this kid personally stating unequivocally on twitter that it was him who was the shooter?

      • mckalarose

No, because it wasn’t verified those “students” were even associated with the event in question. Just because 100 people tweet something doesn’t make it factual. If that was true then the #WarOnWomen would be true simply because 1000’s of leftist morons said so. If Twitchy wants to report/gossip about these things that’s fine, but I don’t think they should be criticizing the media for doing their jobs properly for once.

        • Jillane Kent

So hundreds of people must be assumed to be wrong until the “official” report comes out?

  • TomJB

And they dutifully follow the pattern of using all 3 names for killers in order to add.. something to make it seem more ominous.
