Ok, I'm gonna (ask for it) & defend @ToddAkin for argument's sake. We all know what he was trying to say . . .

Poor phrasing, but if you watch the intv @ToddAkin meant to convey that there's less chance of getting pregnant if raped.—
(@davecatanese) August 20, 2012
So perhaps some can agree that all rapes that are reported are not actually rapes? Or are we gonna really deny that for PC sake?—
(@davecatanese) August 20, 2012
So looks like he meant to say — "If a woman was REALLY raped, it's statistically less likely for her to get pregnant." What's the science?—
(@davecatanese) August 20, 2012
So maybe. Just maybe, @ToddAkin didn't really mean 'legitimate.' Perhaps he meant if 'someone IS really raped' or 'a rape really occurs'—

We don’t think the science is on Akin’s side — pregnancy resulting from rape is not uncommon — but give Politico reporter Dave Catanese credit for showing a bit of independent thought.
Unfortunately, his thoughts didn’t go over so well with the leftist herd:
Someone take the booze away from @davecatanese before he loses his job.—

.@davecatanese Are you high? Everyone understands what he meant, they just think he needs a remedial bio class & maybe a soul—
Jessica Valenti (@JessicaValenti) August 20, 2012
Amazing watching this @davecatanese meltdown on Twitter. How will @Politico justify keeping him on #MOSen beat after this?—

@davecatanese You are creepy. Not only because of what you're saying, but how you seem to revel in doing things "for argument's sake." Ick.—
Kevin (@kevkevkevkevin) August 20, 2012
. @politico so what are you going to do about this? @davecatanese—
Christopher Hooks (@cd_hooks) August 20, 2012
What is Dave Catanese's avatar looking for with the magnifying glass? The last tiny shred of his dignity? #RapeCulture #RapeApologist—

Indeed, some went so far as to suggest that Catanese’s tweets are a firing offense:
.@davecatanese @ToddAkin You call yourself reporter w comments like this? You should be fired. Does your mom know you think like this?—
Alan W. Silberberg (@IdeaGov) August 20, 2012
So, countdown to Dave Catanese getting fired/asked to resign?—
Austin Wulf (@AustinWulf) August 20, 2012
@rkref I think @davecatanese could well just have authored his resignation tweets. You cannot defend indefensible; don't try to justify it—
