Faced with the likelihood that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will select Paul Ryan to be his running mate, liberals are portraying Rep. Ryan as a radical thinker who “wants to end Medicare”:
"@mombizzz: Paul Ryan is the WORST VP Pick Ever!!!!" Not for the Dems! Ryan wants to end Medicare and Social Security.—

Romney would never choose Ryan for his VP. Paul Ryan wants to end Medicare (just like Bush wanted to end Social Security). #RomneyVP—

Paul Ryan would be the first honest thing in Romney's campaign. Would leave no doubt the GOP wants to end Medicare, Medicaid & SS. #edshow—

Just one tiny little problem with this attack: It’s completely false.
Ryan explained his plan last year here:
Watch the video. Under Ryan’s plan, Medicare clearly would still exist.
If nothing is done to reform Medicare, the Medicare Trust Fund will run out of money and the program will go bankrupt.
Ryan does not want to end Medicare. He is trying to strengthen the program and make it solvent.
Even left-leaning Politifact acknowledged that the “wants to end Medicare” canard is false. In fact, it was Politifact’s Lie of the Year in 2011.
