We’ve already seen a couple of examples of bad Twitter behavior by Olympic athletes resulting in ejection from the games, but now it seems the fans are getting in on the act and being held accountable.
Just after placing fourth in the men’s synchronized diving competition, 18-year-old Tom Daley was targeted by a Twitter troll who referred to Daley’s father, who died of brain cancer just last year, and later tweeted, “I’m going to find you and i’m going to drown you in the pool you cocky twat your a nobody people like you make me sick.”
Fans were quick to step in in defense of Daley, many calling for the troll to be banned and starting a “twitition.” (The account Rileyy_69 is currently down.)
Idiot who sent nasty tweets to Tom Daley has just said: "how am i trending worldwide?" Because you're a wanker, I suspect.—
