PR VP for Chick-fil-A has died; Left responds with viciousness

Don Perry, Chick-fil-A’s VP of Corporate Public Relations, has passed away after an apparent heart attack.

Erica M. Martinez, a Chick-fil-A spokeswoman, confirmed the news Friday afternoon in a statement to The Daily Caller.

“We are saddened to report the news to you that our dear friend Don Perry, vice president of public relations, passed away suddenly this morning,” she said. “Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years.”

Martinez added: “For many of you in the media, he was the spokesperson for Chick-fil-A.  He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him.”

Perry worked his way up from Chick-fil-A’s original PR staff to the top tier of the company ladder. His death leaves a void in the Chick-fil-A family, particularly in light of the restaurant chain’s escalating PR battle.

Twitterers paused to pay their respects:

Despite perhaps disagreeing with Perry’s personal views, some on the Left put aside ideological differences and expressed their condolences:

Unfortunately, those liberals were among very few who showed respect.

As Jon predicted, Perry’s death brought out the worst in the Left.

Notable classy “comedian” Rob Delaney weighed in on Perry’s death with his trademark grace:

Despicable. We await the day when such vitriol is the exception rather than the rule. We will likely have to wait a very long time.

May Don Perry rest in peace. Our thoughts are with his friends and loved ones.

Menino. And I really hope some Christian lawyer files a 46 USC 1983 lawsuit against the City of Boston — Menino’s lawyers are reportedly terrified that they will — and they should….

      • joeythelawyer

yeah and it might even work better if it is filed under 42 U.S.C. Section 1983.

      • Janet Wrobleski-Belrose

Menino already backtracked earlier today on his inane statements. Guess he was inundated w/ calls/mail from citizens who believe in the 1st Amendment. He stated that he could not & would not keep them out of Boston. “I still have my opinions” he stated. That’s ok mayor, as long as u GET that Chick-fil-a has THEIRS’ too!!!

NO, GOD IS NOT GAY, he gave man a freewill. Gay is what he chooses, based on a lie.

    • Sharon Pate Marks

If God were gay He would have made Adam and Steve, not Adam and Eve. We would not be here discussing this because there would be no way for mankind to continue. It would have begun and ended with two gays. God also sees EVERY single thing we do and hears every SINGLE thing we say. One day everyone will have to make account for all they have said and done. If gays are so offended by Godly people why don’t they all get their own state? No true Christian condemns the gay person they condemn the sin just as one would condemn adultery. If GOD says it’s a sin (and He DOES!) then it is a sin. While I don’t believe in homosexuality because I follow God; that does not mean I hate the homosexual. Their lifestyle is between them and God. but when they do things like this and act the way they do because someone doesn’t agree with them they only promote more dislike towards them as a PERSON not a homosexual. Where do they get off telling others what they can or can not believe; all the while demanding THEY be heard and their point of view respected. HYPOCRISY!

Well said Sharon, the problem is this. We don’t embrace their lifestyle and since we don’t, we are immediately called names.

      • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Then your god messed up, since one third of gays are through genetics, and the majority of the rest is through environmental factors (i.e. maternal hormones, etc.) Make someone gay, then torture them for eternity…. Nice god. Glad he ain’t mine!

BTW, you need to read your bible more carefully. Marriage is not one man, one woman. It is one man, many women, some of whom are slaves, and can be forced into marriage.

        • Emma Brown

I don’t know which Bible you are reading John R. but the Bible I know never says marriage is with one man and many women…please research…Also, it has never been proven that there is a “gay gene” just more of your liberal BS!

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

It’s called science. I know, Christians are still trying to cope with the earth going around the sun, let alone the whole evolution thing, but do catch up. If you would like for me to find the scientific studies, you are welcome to repeat the experiments to disprove them, or to come up with experiments of your own.

          • Michael Hill

Care to show me a legitimate fossil record illustrating inter-species evolution. Oh yeah, you cannot since every example sciense has offered has been proven to be either misidentified or hoaxed. Don’t get me wrong I believe in micro-evolution. Micro is provable by examining the fossil record but believing that a swirlling mass of dust and gas that “just existed” suddenly exploded outwardly forming the universe. Then on one planet, against all odds a mixture of inorganic matter by pure chance congealed into a tiny mass of random proteins and somehow managed to just come alive all through random chance sounds like a much larger leap of faith to me. And since you bring up evolution, would you care to elaborate on the logic of homosexuality occuring through natural selection? Just how does homosexuality propogate the species?

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

You mean “transitional fossils”? First, let me point out the concept is a misnomer. Every generation is transitional. My children are not exactly like me and/or my (ex) wife… Nonetheless, considering the length of the list, I’ll simply direct you to wikipedia. If you need a scientific source on any specific ones, I’ll do what I can to provide it, but since there are hundreds of intermediary species between major groups… Can’t do it all.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transitional_fossils

If we were created (using “young earth” theory), how is it that fossils are consistently, globally, grouped together, with dinosaurs together, and sauropods together, etc, and not all mixed up from the Flood? How is it that all dating methods are consistent, from dendritic (tree rings) to C14 to Radon to Uranium to stellar output to red shift to genetic drift to sedimentation rates (etc)?

“Swirling gas” did not “just exist”, but I will not attempt to explain it in a single post. However, the argument of “against all odds” is logically flawed. We have no way to know how easily life (etc) could have formed, or how many times it has. Nonetheless, the chance of life developing on earth is demonstrably 100%. Whether by evolution, creation, or blew out of Elmo’s butt, doesn’t change that. Oddly enough, the Big Bang theory and a more liberal “Intelligent Design” really aren’t that far apart when you go all the way back.

The question regarding homosexual genes being passed on is a simplistic view of genetics. Homosexuality is a weighting of genes, not a single genes, for instance if you have gene a, g, k, t, and u, you may be gay depending on environmental (pre-natal) factors. Add in b and c, you’ll be gay no matter what. Take out any two from the original set, and you’ll be straight no matter what.

Even with a simplistic view, it has been shown that heterosexual siblings of homosexuals are more promiscuous. In addition homosexual men have been show to make better care givers than straight men, and have less aggression. Therefore, a homosexual is likely to have a greater number of nieces and nephews, and more of them survive, thus passing at least a high proportion of the genes on (and therefore greater chance some of them, in turn, will be gay, depending on their paternal genes).

In addition, the genes for homosexuality in men and women very likely vary. Genes for male homosexuality may grant women an advantage (such as being promiscuous, or better care givers), and vice-versa.

Finally, as clear from mankind, homosexuality and offspring are not mutually-exclusive. Homosexual couples choose to have children all the time.

If it is a choice, why is homosexuality more likely the later the birth order (i.e. 4th-born is more likely than 3rd-born, irrespective of age of parents)?

Horseshit. Pure horseshit. Ever heard of celibacy? Ever heard of the cataclysm that happend about 14,000 years ago? You know with the woolly mammouths with fresh vegetation still in thier stomachs and mouths in Alaska and Siberia? Nothing gradual there, flash frozen. BTW, carbon 14 dating is the most unreliable dating process used, with vegetation beside interstate highways dating to millions of years old. And if you are going to use the Bible in an argument I suggest you read it first. Homosexual=abomination which literally means in Hebrew “stink to the eye”. I know of no way to express it better. As far as “nature vs nurture” in any context is a cheap way out. Homosexuality is a choice, nothing more. No-one under any normal circumstance has to have sex with anything ever. And when is promiscuity an advantage? Except maybe for STDs. Your’e simply talking shit about random things that don’t mean shit. You can’t understand half of what you posted because no one else can either.

LOL, what is science ? Science of the past is just a guess, nothing has been proven. Its what the science thinks has happen or what makes up life its self , is just a guess own their part. Facts buddy. LOL, experiments any one can make a experiments come up with what THEY believe , they mean nothing. The only science to be believe is of what man him self has seen or made , all others are just a guess no proof what so ever , just a guess

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Science is observation. Things you can see, touch, and mathematically describe. Darwin, a Christian who believed animals were created, did experiments, and found that plants passed traits to their offspring in a predictable manner, and proposed a theory stating there must be some mechanism allowing that. Today we call it DNA. His beliefs were shattered, though he remained a Christian.

        • dominigan

God is not messed up. Sin comes to us all through our fallen nature. Heterosexuals are attracted to members of the opposite sex. Does this mean that I am allowed to commit adultery just because I have feelings toward women? NO. Obedience to God is resisting our animal impulses, including those of homosexuality, and following his word. To accept sin, and reject God, is OUR CHOICE. Hell is our choice. Freedom to choose, in your opinion, is messed up.

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

“Fallen nature” being of course genetics (sorry, folks, but genetics is real). As you say, “our animal impulses,” i.e. instincts. Should I ignore my instincts? For instance, if it’s rationally in my best interests to kill someone (i.e. to steal their wealth), I should just do it, even if instinct warns me not to do it?

        • Billy Beacham

no genetics what so ever, just more liberal BS. The person either wants to be gay or not. Show me the proof of your genetics statement ? My bible says marriage is between 1 man and one woman. You should really stop eating paint chips its messing your head up.

Your first link is “theoretical” yet to be proven. Your second link is about animals. I am sure all of your links are the same as people usually put their best links first. In fact, studies of twins are inconclusive. They found that adoptive brothers have a highter rate of becoming homosexuals then do genetically identical twins.. Evolution sole reason is survival of a species. Homosexuality is against evolutionary science and an evolutionary dead end.

BTW, alcoholism is a genetic trait. I don’t see anyone saying that alcoholism is desirable.

““Frankly, the biggest problem of the genetic possibilities is the evolutionary problem,” says Michael Bailey, the researcher who found that women get turned on by anything, who is now working with Sanders. “And I don’t think that Dean [Hamer] has taken that problem seriously enough.” Men who like men are obviously less likely to procreate. Even if social pressures through the ages led some gay men to have some children, the significantly lower rate of reproduction would eventually lead to the disappearance of the gene (as Hamer does note in his book, The Science of Desire: The Search for the Gay Gene and the Biology of Behavior). “http://discovermagazine.com/2007/jun/born-gay/article_view?b_start:int=1&-C=

It’s amazing how…EVIL people can be when a person they disagree with dies. My prayers to Don Perry’s family, but for the love of all that is sacred and just, why trash a man’s death? Those who spit on the graves of dead men for these reasons, are nothing more than monstrous swine.

I know of two documented cases, involving a total of three fatalities, from drinking WATER. One, in California, was a radio promotion stunt, involving distilled water (bad idea) and a woman’s electrolytes got so out of whack (this includes sodium) that she died. And two fratboys in upstate NY were drinking water out of a 5 gallon gas-type can (clean, clean water) as part of hazing and died as a result.

He clearly stated what most Americans believe, and that is marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. CFA has NEVER said they hated gays or will not serve them. If liberals and gays actually LISTENED to what was said, that in itself would be a miracle.

No, the Republican party did away with slavery long ago; you must be a REALLY old democrat to say something that stupid…

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

You don’t know your history. The Republican and Republican Democrats swapped sides after the Civil War. When you say the Republicans, you are actually referring to the predecessors of today’s Democrats.

And I was referring to Levitican law, though now that you mention it, Christians didn’t cotton on to slavery being not nice for 1,800 years. The clue would be “many wives”. Though technically legal in many places until shortly before the Civil War, the practice has never been largely accepted in America. However, the size of a man’s harem was a mark of social standing in biblical Israel.

          • Michael Hill

And in the New Testament, marriage is clearly defined as being between 1 man and 1 woman. As for you BS about the Rep and Dem swap: How do you explain the Democrats holding on to Jim Crow laws well into the 1960s and the Democrat record holding filibuster of the 1964 civil rights act. Please do not try rewriting history, you are not very good at it.

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Where is it “clearly defined”? And how does that alleged clear definition supersede the clear definition in the Old Testament? Since it obviously differs, does that mean God got it wrong the first time? Or did he have it right the first time, and wrong the second time? Or are they both valid?

Republicans in the South felt maligned by the Republican “carpet baggers” of the North. Because of the perception of having been abused by the Republicans, the South switched to the Democratic party en masse. However, “Southern Democrats” could also be viewed as a third party, and were distinct from Democrats in the South. As Alan states, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, yet stood for big government and socialism, and Democrats stood for strict Constitutionalism, but they slowly swapped position.

Now, of course, neither stand for what they originally did. The Democrats ignore the Constitution on social care, such as Obamacare, but Republicans ignore it when it comes to the protection of rights, such as the Patriot Act. In the same way, both fight for big government, just where it suits them. The same applies to economic issues, with both wanting to spend big and cut taxes where it suits them, and not where it doesn’t.

Both sides are polarized, but in tangled ways.

          • http://twitter.com/tyler_gloria Gloria J Tyler

@MichealHill: It is very simple how the New Testament one man and one woman marriage supersedes the Old Testament. One man that died for us all Jesus Christ. If you would take the time to study and read up on what you are trying to put down you would not be so ugly in your responses. The Old Testament marriages were one man and many women and inter-family related because God was populating this beautiful planet for us. I really feel bad for you because you think that just because we are Christians and believe as the Bible states that marriage is between one man and one woman that we hate and teach hate. When in reality it is you and people like you that are teaching hatred. Hatred for Christians and their believes. I do not ask you to believe like I do or try to force it on you but Christians do not get the same respect. We believe what we believe and we love all people. I personally have two very dear cousins that live a homosexual lifestyle. I do not try to change them because only they can do that. But I love these 2 people so much because of the people they are. True Christians teach love and tolerance and the rest of the world is too blind to see that.

Thanks. Yet another person completely unable to answer legitimate questions. And I’m not the one who went off with the Republican/Democrat issue. I answered a question.

Stay on subject… Okay. The bible does not define marriage in a strict sense, such as 1 man, 1 woman (assertions to the contrary have yet to be backed up; feel free to rebut with a QUOTE). However, it very clearly states (in OT) that polygamy is acceptable. It very clearly states that slavery is acceptable (both OT and NT). And it very clearly states that women have no right to voice their opinion in religious matters (both OT and NT). I assume you asked permission to voice your opinion, Pam?

If these are clearly stated principles of God, then why are we so concerned with gays? Shouldn’t Chick-Fil-A be pushing to have their slaves obey them, women to shut up, and no one be circumcised? If not, then why not?

          • http://purposelydifferent.com/ Chris Cree

John, the New Testament has a ton to say about relationships in general and marriage in particular. Here are a few if you care to look them up. You see I figure it’s better for you to go look at the source documents in context than to have me pull things out. 😉

            Matthew 19:1-9
            Mark 10:2-10
            1 Corinthians chapter 7
            Ephesians 5:22-31
            Hebrews 13:4

You may notice that a consistent thing through out those marriage passages is that they talk about one man and one woman.

http://equalitymatters.org/factcheck/201111010001 gives a partial listing of such donations by Chick-Fil-A’s charitable arm, the WInShape Foundation, over the last few years.

There’s not a great deal of difference between these folks being upset with Chick-Fil-A’s actions and, say, the conservative group One Million Moms calling for a boycott of JCPenney because they hired Ellen Degeneres, or when the American Family Association called (just this month) for a boycott of Google in response to that company’s “Legalize Love” campaign…is there?

      • Daniel_Redding

Um, I’d love to know how Tea Party conservatives force their beliefs on everyone else (I’m guessing you mean their “tax us less” beliefs as that’s their main principle). And liberals don’t try to force their beliefs of “global warming”, “the rich are greedy”, “salt is bad for you”, “big soft drinks are bad”, “you don’t know what’s best for you so we’ll dictate to you how to live”, (shall I go on?) etc, etc, etc.

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Okay, back to facts and you’re way-off posts: the middle class is hurting because of your savior Obama. Bloomberg is an INDEPENDENT!!!! Look it up, brah. Or will you take that out of context as well? He’s more of a Dem than a conservative anyway. Patriot Act? Bi-partisan supported law passed BEFORE the emergence of the Tea Party. DMCA/PIPA/SOPA was supported by Dems and Republicans. The Tea Party had no stance on this. And, seriously, how is the “show me paper” law forcing one’s beliefs on another? That is unless you don’t think we should know who’s in our country. Then that would make you truly a bigger idiot than what you try to make yourself out to be. I’ll let you figure out how dangerous it is for us NOT to know who’s here legally. Besides that, EVERYONE must “show me paper”. When you get pulled over, you must “show me paper”. When you use your credit card/debit card, you must “show me paper”. When you get cable service/cellular service, you must “show me paper”. But go live like an ostrich on that subject just because your party took that stance. Don’t you dare be open-minded and think for yourself.

Thank God Almighty we have the Dems to tell us what we must do for ourselves.

There are studies that prove politics are more polarized, and that it started on the right.

The reason “liberals” are more “totalitarian” left, is because they are faced with the choice between being anti-gay, anti-muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-privacy, anti-science, anti-women’s rights, anti-poor, anti-birth control versus having freedom. Not everyone can agree on everything.

I have plenty of both, and do my best to recognize them and face them. I am quiet willing to admit when I’m wrong. After searching for answers for over 20 years, I have only found more questions. These are all honest questions, even if they may seem to you sarcastic.

Why were we created? What is a soul? Why are there fossils? How can you fit 4 of every species (14 of every “clean” one) on a little boat? If the ocean was de-salinated, how did they save saltwater fish? How did they save freshwater fish (since the ocean covered the whole world)? Why would God present himself to a minority of the world? Why did man-kind go without the bible FAR longer than with it? Why is there as much senseless suffering among Christians as non-Christians (i.e. end of life painful degenerative desease is not “testing” you, it just hurts and kills you)? Why are there genetic predispositions to faith vs. non-faith (probably among faiths too, but I have no proof of that)? Why the drastic difference between OT laws and NT “laws” (couldn’t God have written a set that is universally applicable)? Why are most of the NT “laws” left to be written by Paul and not by Jesus himself? Why are there factual errors in the bible? How can the word of God be distorted by translation, interpretation, and transcription? Why among those who accept Jesus as their Savior can so many still be wrong (roughly 30% of Christians are Roman Catholic, 70% Protestant, which are largely mutually exclusive)? Why would the Romans, contrary to all historical precedent, require Joseph to travel AWAY from his property for a property tax assessment? Why did Jesus have to die to “take away our sins”? How can water wash away the residue of past wrongs, and if it can, why do we need Jesus if we take showers? How did the authors of the bible know Judas was given 30 pieces of silver? How can I, after seeking answers for over 20 years, be destined to eternal punishment for not finding them?

And those are just some of the big questions.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. -Ephesians 6:11, 12.

I have absolutely nothing against gay people, but for those of you being so disrespectful to this man and his family by spouting such nasty comments, before you quote anything about GOD and gays. READ YOUR BIBLE. Yes I am a christian and yes I support Chic-fil-A for being a christian organization, however he never said he was againts Gays he said he was against gay marriage. And I Quote—1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”Leviticus 18:22 (KJV): “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind it is abomination.” So be careful what you spew about a good christian man or woman for it may come back to bite you. May god bless Mr Don Perry;s family at the very dificult time in their lives, and shame on you that are so nasty.

    • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

First, anyone who is not kosher need to shut up about Leviticus. Eating shellfish is an abomination before the eyes of your lord.

Second, anyone who uses a biblical standard for marriage must therefore condone polygamy and slavery.

” Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter… Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter…. Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife…” “If a man sleeps with a female slave who is promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be some punishment, ,,, [of] offering…atonement…”

i.e. You can marry more than one woman, so long as they aren’t related, and you can marry slaves, and obviously you can rape slaves, so long as they aren’t betrothed.

So next time you’re enslaved, raped, and forced to join a man’s harem, don’t complain.

My personal favorite, aside from being able to stone my kids to death if they give me lip – “If…no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found [after marriage], she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death.” (Obviously there’s nothing about men needing to be virgins, what with all the slave raping.)

I didn’t say *I* condone polygamy, rape and slavery…. The old testament does, which Islam adheres to. If you want to use biblical standards, then the standard set by Iran is one to look up to, not look down upon.

      • Daniel_Redding

Are you truly this big of an idiot or do you just play one on the interwebs? Like you like to quote the OT, but I know your silence on the NT. I guess because either: a) you’ve never read it, or b) you know doing so and keeping things in context that your failed arguments would be exposed even to yourself. It’s truly sad that your kind likes to pick apart a a sacred text and take verses out of context. And then below you say that “Islam” adheres to the OT? Really? That would make muslims and Jews the same people, right? Yet muslims believe Jews are infidels. Hmmm. Makes sense (sarcasim intended).

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Jesus is inexplicably silent on the subject, and the world had to wait 20 years after he dies to be informed that women can not speak in church: “women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church”. Odd how I never hear any debate over whether to make it illegal for women to speak in church or government (hard to be a female political leader if you have to “ask their own husbands a home” what they think), despite the fact that it specifically says “AS THE LAW SAYS”. Never states anything about the law in regards to homosexuality.

I also rarely hear people complaining about how uppity their slaves are: “Slaves obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ”.

Maybe a law prohibiting being angry at night? “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”.

Or that it should be illegal to be circumcised? “Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”

No Jesus was not silent on it. He said that sex outside of marriage is a sin and that marriage is between a man and a woman..

That being said, people can support laws for WHATEVER REASON they want to. It is called the first amendment. I support your right to be a useful liberal idiot tool who cherry picks the Bible.

Oh and btw, I am not Christian or particularly religious and I don’t agree with SSM…

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

Well, that’s convenient… He did? Well, no he didn’t. Wow, it’s so much easier to just say stuff without actually backing it up. Why have I never thought of that? Oh, because it’s just you SAYING stuff. Citation or quote.

The Constitution protects me from you using your faith to pass laws. Hence the First Amendment. Demonstrate a benefit to society first. THEN we have a reasonable discussion. Otherwise, it’s just one person saying “I wanna mess with a minority just because I want to”.

And ain’t it grand how easily the bible can be cherry-picked? That was my entire point!! Today gays… Tomorrow, women speaking? Not cutting your privates? Maybe cutting your privates… Works for Africa.

          • melle1228

Again, I am not religious and I am against SSM. Where does the “constitution” protect you from my political views? Please show me where sexuality is a protected class? (Don’t say equal protection-there are three tiers in which homosexuals fall on the lowest.) Don’t say Loving v. Virginia( see Baker v. Nelson)..

And the Bible and by extension Jesus does say that Mr. Cherry picker: see woman and the well John 4:1-42, and Matthew 19…Jesus on marriage and divorce(hint he doesn’t use “people,” he uses man/woman- wife/husband..)

          • http://quadgmoto.myopenid.com/ QuadGMoto

Not everything Jesus said was put into the Bible. Writing materials were an incredibly scarce resource, so the writers had limit themselves to only the most important of what Jesus said.

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
            — John 20:30–31

Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
            — John 21:25

He also repeatedly endorsed the Old Testament (he called them “the Law and the Prophets) as true.

And of course, you claim things which are similar to what the Bible teaches, but not quite. You do like your straw men, don’t you?

          • Daniel_Redding

Seriously, I give you an A+ at out-of-context posts! Kudos! Posted like a true Democrat. Have a great day! May the God of Israel, the Father of Jesus bless you and speak in your heart.

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

It would make both Christianity and Islam Abrahamic religions. Seriously, you don’t know that? Yes, the Muslims follow the Old Testament, along with the Koran, just as Christians follow the Old Testament and the New testament. However, Islam preserves more Levitican law than does Christianity. Christians just like to pick and choose from the Old Testament. And both Christians and Muslims feel Jews are outside of the “true” belief (which for Islam would be “infidels”).

Technically, Islam uses the Torah, not the bastardized version with extra books thrown in that Christians call the Old Testament.

          • Daniel_Redding

Are you serious when you put half-truths together

          • Daniel_Redding

To think muslims follow the OT/Torah is absolutely idiotic. Their whole point is that Jews and Christians have it wrong. I’m doing what the Bible directs me not to: throwing pearls before swine. Jesus came to abolish the Law. If you’re so educated on Christianity like you portray, you should know this. I’ll let you research why this event occurred. There is no “pick and choose”. Sorry. And let me know how it goes down when you present a muslim a copy of the Torah and tell him to get to reading his holy book.

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech
          • Daniel_Redding

Genius, then why do muslims believe Jews to be infidels? Why do muslims HATE Jews??? WHY? Can you please tell me WHY? They do not believe in the Torah! They believe that their holy book which was written thousands of years later is the true revelation and the Torah is all wrong. Good gosh. Do you wear tinfoil on your head? I find it odd that you go to such lengths to defend a people that, if they truly believe in their holy book, want your total destruction. They want you to convert or die. What other religion endorses that? And don’t come back to me with the Spanish Inquisition. That was man-led and not Biblical in any way.

          • http://quadgmoto.myopenid.com/ QuadGMoto

Correction. Jesus did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. Mosaic Law (Leviticus, Deuteronomy, etc.) was given to the nation of Israel, not the whole world. (See Jeremiah 31:31-32) That’s why laws about eating shellfish and mixing fabrics don’t apply to everyone else. They were only given to Israel. The same is true of punishments specified there. They were the laws for the Nation of Israel, not for everyone else. Activities identified as sin in the New Testament are described as sin for everyone.

BTW, “sin” is an archery term. It means “missing the mark”. There is what is right (in this debate, it’s one man, one woman, for life) and anything outside of that is sin because it’s not within the target.

          • Daniel_Redding

            My bad. You are correct!

      • SargeSmash

You’ve got your theology all mixed up. If a rule is repeated in the New Testament, in what is supposed to be the New Covenant, then the Old Testament law still stands.

So what does this mean for the Christian? That homosexuality is still wrong (see I Corinthians 6:9-10, or Romans 1:26-27). That adultery is still wrong, That a whole litany of things that were wrong in the Old Testament are wrong, yet there are quite a few that are not anymore. The punishment for such crimes obviously changed as well.

Also, note that much of what the Old Testament illustrated is how flawed a people God was still able to use. They weren’t perfect, and there were some bad things that happened in those times. They were still quite advanced compared to the civilizations around them, and continued to improve through God’s revelations. But none of us are perfect. Not a single one.

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.roguetech John Roguetech

A Hebrew law stated in the Old Testament only counts if it’s “repeated” (for the historic Jewish society, this would be at some point in the future) by James after Christ is long dead?

Since the New Testament doesn’t quote (i.e. repeat) the Old Testament much, I guess it’s the same as it doesn’t count. I must admit, I have looked, and been unable to find where Christ explains why laws that were given by God and were good enough to stand for thousands of years, had to be over-turned before being ignored by Israel and exported to Rome…? Perhaps you could also point out to me, since it’s so much more important than any of the other things that Paul “repeats”, such as a prohibition of women speaking in church, where Christ defines marriage.

And your history is whacked. The Israelites were not advanced compared to their neighbors. Egypt and Mesopotamia (who wrote Genesis 1 and 2) were a lot more advanced, and both India and China outstripped them by an even larger amount. If anything, Israel was repressed and backwards, as there was constant warfare, both internal and external, that you should know is documented in the Old Testament. Not that any of these larger, more cultured, and historically more significant cultures were deemed worthy to even hear of God or Christ to any significant degree until well into the 18th century, at best.

Bottom line, if God’s law is transient, as are the punishments, and can be changed outside of God’s word (Paul was not Christ or God), then why can it not be changed today? The Old Testament has two entire books dedicated to laws. The New Testament has none. Yet today there are entire libraries dedicated to law books. By that standard, everything in our law books is invalid if it goes against anyone’s personal interpretation of the vague statements in the New Testament. You have pointed out the two clearest statements against homosexuality, yet neither say that homosexual marriage should be disallowed, merely that they won’t get into heaven. The bible (including one of the verses you quote) say that the rich won’t get into heaven, yet there are no laws against being rich…

I am truly amazed at the number of people who thought that somehow God approves of homosexuallity…1 Corinthians 6:9 “What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do NOT be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adultors, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s Kingdom.” Now that is from God’s word. Do these people just choose to ignore his principles? Of course. Do they assume God has changed his principles because somehow they are special? Of course they do. I fully support the LGBTQ community’s need to have the same rights bestowed on their S.O.’s as everyone else. However, I will NEVER condone the death of someone who might have a differing opinion of mine. That’s just straight up wrong. If you’re going to love, and be equally just … then don’t spew hate because someone did not believe as you do. The poor man DIED! He left behind a family that loved him, and that will continue to mourn well after the debate has fizzled and another arises. Let his family mourn in peace — and for the love of anything or nothing you find Holy, Logical or just plain Just … leave your hate (either for or against) at home. Just say it’s sad, and move the heck on.

I have an honest question – when it comes to “the Left” and “the Right”, why don’t we simply make a distinction between leaders–elected officials, candidates, party officials/representatives, perhaps even media personalities–and “whatever clowns we can find on Twitter and Facebook”?

Let’s be honest here; if any of us wanted to make a particular side look bad, we could find hundreds, if not thousands, of Twitter/Facebook/blog clowns with whom to “prove” our point.

I’m tired of seeing people compare a Governor’s/Senator’s/Representative’s comment to that of some effectively anonymous idiot and say “Look, both sides do it!”. I’m equally tired of those who take random clowns from Twitter/Facebook and say “look at the scum on ‘the Left'” or “Dang, ‘the Right’ are idiots.”

Can we just agree that every political grouping has its share of idiots and concentrate on what the significant and/or important members of each group are saying and doing? Isn’t that what we really need to be doing? Is that too much to ask?

So why are you getting your pink panties in a wad? Oh…the CEO of the company expressed his Christian beliefs about marriage being between a man and a woman! How dare he have an opinion!!
