Media fail: So, Ann Romney never said 'you people' after all

As Twitchy reported earlier today, liberals had their knickers in a twist after the lapdog media blew up a story that Ann Romney had used the phrase “you people” when dismissing the fuss over her husband’s tax returns.

Right on cue, lefties lined up to lay into the Romneys:

Oh, puh-leeeeeeeeze. Thanks for playing.

As it turns out, the Left was foaming at the mouth over a big, fat nothingburger; it seems Mrs. Romney didn’t use “you people” at all.

The media ran with a false narrative? Let us show you our shocked face:

ABC walked back its earlier claim that Ann Romney had uttered the “you” in question:

You People? – What Did Ann Romney Say About Mitt’s Taxes on GMA? – There’s a Debate Online.

Was it – “And we’ve given all people need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how — you know, how we live our life.”

Or was it – “And we’ve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how — you know, how we live our life.”

Our ruling after reviewing the original audio is that she did not include the “you.”

Judge for yourself –

Some liberals accused both the Huffington Post and MSNBC of altering Romney’s quote to protect her.

Conservatives, fed up with the growing list of lapdog media bungles, fought back against the asinine #youpeople meme.

As is the case with so many instances of liberal gun-jumpage, waiting for an apology will be an exercise in futility.

As if “You People” automatically makes it hateful. The simpletons on the Left makes me sick. Looking for slip-ups to “prove” Republicans are racist

  • Steve Smith

So, I took your advice, followed the link you provided and listened for myself. Actually, she does say “all you people” but it is clearly a reference to the media – those pounding the Romney’s for more tax returns. Nothing to do with racial connotations. That assertion is off the wall.

  • s.p. johnson

    The lamestream media is pathetic.

  • peteee363

you people need to apologize to ann, so you people don’t look so pathetic!

  • Johnny Blade

The left is incapable of viewing anything with the racism, sexism, homophobia, blah blah… anything to avoid having to act like adults.. to the left YOU PEOPLE make me sick.

  • Bryan Baird

It consistently amazes me that there are such people actually walking around on our streets! I wonder if any of these clowns can get their shoes on the right feet twice in a row! It is maddening trying to spoon-feed reason to these foaming-at-the-mouth lunatics who are gleefully welcoming chains and slavery as they sneer at the work and sacrifices of their betters to preserve liberty.

  • dennylee60

Next time the MSM will make up something more interesting like Romney said “You #&%$$%$ people.”.

  • Ty

So…how about that economy guys? Have you people had enough of “you people” yet or are we just going to beat this dead horse to the ground? Can we discuss something important for fucks sake?

  • Donald Palmer

I don’t really care if she said “you people” or not .. the context of what she was saying was the same as “you people” as made famous by Ross Perot. Big deal about nothing, IMO.

  • MrsDrLift

Seriously? Pugs are lying (what a surprise) and spinning that Ann never said “you people”? That’s hilarious. Yes. She did.

    • weRbroke

LMAO! How can you hear what was never said?

  • TugboatPhil

“You people” was one of the nicer things my Drill Sergeant called me.

  • Pat Bateman

Because keder is the #1 source of accurate and mature political discourse. I count no less than 3 Twitchy articles about #youpeople, so something must be working.

  • gatekeeper96740

I use the phrase “you people” ALL THE TIME because it points out to liberals>You do not OWN THE CONVERSATION and I will not self edit to satisfy you people .
That is part of their brainwashing they do this Cr@p to us in school.

I am clear to them “You do not control the conversation or set the ground rules of discourse I do.”

I DO NOT use the word Gay to discuss HOMOSEXUALS.
    They are not “gay” .
I am not MS. (Which sounds like a snake hissing.
    I am Miss.
Free your mind from them. Take back the language.

    • LightSabre

Couldn’t agree with you more. Don’t let others make the rules for conservation or the words YOU use.

    • Chris Kraucunas

Well said. I constantly remind my verbal sparring partners that “words have precise meanings.”
Gay means happy and carefree; Queer means odd, weird, or strange; a Fag is slang for cigarette in the UK; and a Faggot is a bundle of dry sticks used for kindling.

  • amyshulk

I’m always struck by how it’s the prism that takes precedence. As I understand it, “you people” is shorthand to say “your behavior reminds me of other people’s behavior that society frowns upon” and was a way of letting someone know they stepped out of bounds. It became a derogatory racial whistle to further erase those societal boundaries. So the person who is being chided to act in accordance with the community gets to flip it back on the one giving censure. That’s been really successful, huh?

  • American Avant Garde

all that you need to know about the behavior of liberals can be modeled by observing that of lemmings on LSD

  • sam harbor

The whole 2 party system here in the USA is just a way of manipulating
the masses to vote for ‘their side’ no matter what, so no one who won’t
be in the back pockets of the major donors to both partys get into a
position of power to actually do good.

You really think Romney will be better then Obama?

Why don’t you look at presidential promises of candidates going back 2
decades and you will see they all promise the exact same thing no matter
what party they belong to (not including policies that are more
    religious in matter)

If people would start seeing the reality of the situation and stop
blindingly believe what they hear because of were they are on the
political spectrum then this country would be doing better off.

sighhhh you people the ignorant masses :(

    • TomJB

Sam, calling people “ignorant” and part of some lemming-like amalgamous “mass,” and then sighing as if to say we aren’t smart enough to know what really is good for us, really isn’t a great way to win converts to your point of view.

  • wtpeopleduh

Wtf is wrong with saying “you people” anyway? Show me where “you people” means you blacks. Is it the you or the people that means black? What dictionary is that in? I would think “you blacks” meant you blacks.

    • Chris Kraucunas

Exactly. The phrase “You people” is used to limit the scope of the statement being made. It reduces “all people” to a single group of people. To say “those people” would do the same, but would make the statement appear to be about another group of people. So “You people” is used to limit the target, as well as identify that the group being spoken ABOUT is the group being spoken TO.

  • TomJB

Thats ok, they will simply have a SNL skit where some actress playing Ann Romney says it, so it will be liberal truth that Ann Romney said it herself.

    Hey, it worked in 2008!

  • TomJB

So, I guess “you people” simply no longer can possibly mean the group of *PEOPLE* that a speaker is speaking to, therefore totally proper to use the 2nd person plural nominative pronoun “YOU”. Or demonstratively “you people (here with me)” as opposed to “those people (over there)”… Nope, its just racist, no matter the context

  • rbeccah

It’s important to the left to get the lies out there. Oh, they’ll say oops, sorry, and walk it back a little later, but the lie is out there and that’s all that matters to them.

  • Ronnie Kauffman

Michelle Malkin is a piece of shit. liar.

    • Rena

Wow that really makes you look so grown up using language like that, now get off your daddy’s computer before you break it….

  • Rena

I believe she said “you people” but not in reference to race but to MSM as they continually hound her and her husband. I don’t feel that saying “you people” is derogatory at all and people need to get over themselves and stop looking for the race card in everything anyone does. The race card platform is worn out all ready, so find a new platform to jump on.
