Do this: Twitchy tech guru offers Twitter back-up service

Ed Burns is owner of Blog Rescue, Twitchy’s in-house tech guru and our awesome apps creator. Check out his new service for Twitter backup — inspired by the @freemarket_us and @chrisloesch Twitter suspensions/reinstatements.

Don’t get caught unprepared the next time a flag-spam abuse brigade hits.

Update: The fledgling service is now online here:

  • The Monster

Twitter should do this themselves, ESPECIALLY for automatic suspensions not done by a human administrator.  Then when they overrule the “algorithm”, everything should just revert to status quo ante.

I’m astounded Twitter doesn’t have such a system in place. Backing up/backups are the live of most systems.

I’m guessing that Twitter doesn’t think this will ever happen to any of their “friends.” They seem to be ok with the accounts being suspended thus far.

Screw Twitter and their hacks.  The internet will always find a way.

You can already save and export your friends & followers lists to .csv using; and you can also back up all your tweets (Twitter only saves the most recent 3,000) using

Backupmytweets is free and works automatically; exporting our friends & followers to .csv is a manual process and you have to subscribe.  Automating the friend & follower back-up would certainly make it more elegant – but the technology does already exist.

I’m not sure whether an automated process to re-follow all the people you used to be following would work though – there’s a chance it would activate spam alarms, since that’s typical spambot behaviour (following thousands of accounts in a short period of time).
