Etch-a-sketch alert: Romney backs Obama student loan proposal; Update: Romney says #StoptheSpending!/hunterpearce/status/194543260579008512

With this announcement, Mitt Romney manages to simultaneously (a) throw House Republicans under the bus, (b) undermine his argument that he is serious about controlling reckless federal spending, and (c) lend his support to an awful policy.

Twitter conservatives were not pleased:

Romney clearly is trying to reach out beyond the GOP voters he disparages as “Fox News true believers.” But left-of-center voters aren’t exactly rallying to Romney’s side:!/KKoz22/status/194510262957637632!/kmlynch10/status/194501296726867970

Pander #fail.

Update: The Romney campaign is paying Twitter to promote this tweet:

#StoptheSpending? Really?

This is a complete travesty.. what a damnable idiot.. it’s just fueling the education bubble and enriching the pockets of those Marxist anti-American professors who vomit forth the regurgitations of their filthy souls onto our cities in the form of the Occupy Movement… This is pathetic.

What a flippingdumbtwit he is…is he pandering to a base that will NEVER change their spots?  Government issued and backed STUPID LOANS do not address the SHLUSH FUNDS surrounding the non-profit nature of higher education and it’s LIBERAL chokehold.  plug in your “favorite” college and see the organizations and the amount of $$$$$ that is run thru their ponzi scheme…

This is why he will lose in the general election. There is no difference between the two because they both come from the same line of panderers who only care about their special interests, which are ironically similar. Conservatives failed to choose a stand-out nominee in the primaries, and it falls on their shoulders. If we had a Ron Paul, a Michele Bachmann, a Herman Cain, or even a Rick Perry or Rick Santorum as the GOP nominee, the party wouldn’t be in this predicament. (Yes, I left Newt out because it would be WORSE than this.)

tl;dr Romney will be an epic failure.

  • Joan Of Argghh!

Did Newt say he was staying in all the way to the convention?

  • RufusChoate

No matter what the LDS RomneyBots say, Romney is just not a honest or decent man with any principles and We will all find out as the campaign progresses.

    • jimforbes

Well – There is ZERO question in my mind that Romney is VERY dishonest.
But, then, most liberals are, so he fits right in with all his liberal GOPE pals.

  • Jebrolis

This is real bad for conservatives,,The good intentions in the primary fight went to hell in a handbasket right after I heard about Mr. Romney agreeing with Obama on government subsidized and controlled student loans..The big question mark came up..Should I do nothing.. I don’t want to vote for Obama lite..We have a real problem..called morale.

    • jimforbes

Part of the problem is we are not having a primary.  All the states using caucus have disenfranchised millions of voters.  I didn’t get to vote for one in Wa State.

  • micropterus_salmoides

George Will put it best: “Romney has complete versatility of convictions”.

What the hell are we going to do when the student loan bubble bursts, and the market is flooded with those who can’t

At least now the government keeps them as pets;  feeds them and looks after their grooming and such.  It will be Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome when all the profs go feral.

  • notyetagm

McCain in 2008, Romney in 2012, get ready for Jeb in 2016, baggers.

Carl Rove and Fox news will keep the RINOS happpy.
