Beginning of the end: Gingrich cuts staff, fires manager

The beginning of the end has begun. We knew it was bound to happen, but were just waiting for the time it actually did. Gingrich has been slacking in nationwide polls for several weeks now, even hardening his third place position in the delegate race.

From POLITICO tonight:

Newt Gingrich is cutting back his campaign schedule, will lay off about a third of his cash-strapped campaign’s full-time staff, and has forced out his manager as part of what aides are calling a “big-choice convention” strategy, communications director Joe DeSantis told POLITICO. Michael Krull, a former advance man and a college friend of Callista Gingrich’s who took over the campaign after a staff exodus in June, was replaced last weekend by Vince Haley, who has worked for Gingrich for nine years and currently is deputy campaign manager and policy director. “We’re focusing exclusively on what it’ll take to win what we’re going to be calling a big-choice convention in August,” DeSantis said in a phone interview Tuesday night.!/MarkBrooksVA/status/184824361625194497

Sorry Newt, it comes with the territory.

Twitchy will continue to monitor the situation and update this post as needed.

Newt’s just regrouping. As Sarah said, this will be the most unusual election cycle in recent memory. Newt, hang in there; many, many people are rooting for you

Unusual yes, foolhardy no.  Try as he might, Newt was never able to re-brand himself into a candidate Conservatives could trust.  What it boiled down to was we didn’t feel we had the luxury of rehabilitating a nation AND a President.  IMHO

Wow, not easy to leave a comment unless you are doing so in reference to an article.  Just wanted to ask Milken if she knowingly used a picture of some black kid in a gangsta pose and claimed it was Trayvon, or is it simply that all black people look the same to you?  Just curious.

Wrong thread.  Or will any one do?

Disappointing, but not surprising.  Don’t understand all the Newt-hate.
